'split.bat' yields no results! I know I'm not screwing this one up...

OK, now I've been getting around the limitations of a non-split ROM, and still could, except for the fact that I've run into a little music glitch that burns out the ears of anyone who dares play with the volume up...

HOWEVER, this problem could easily be solved with a dis-assembled ROM. This is my last resort, but I cannot get the process to work for the life of me. Due to the fact that this computer, running Vista, accomplishes nothing with the splitting process, while my XP desktop machine yields some corrupted results, I'm beginning to see some faults in the whole 'hacking thing' with Vista...

...Is that even an excuse? I've done every step in every tutorial I've seen (and there's only about four, excluding the downloading), and constantly receive no folders with said files in them. Has anyone ever faced a strange problem such as this one? I know how to dis-assemble (or at least where to find good tutorials now), so don't bother with links (unless they're relevent, that is). All I need is some troubleshooting advice/solutions, because I'm sure that someone on the vast, vast internet has experienced similar problems...

Thanks for your help in advance,

    -beanDude :)

You are aware that you can only split an unmodified binary image, right? I'm getting the vibe that you're trying to split your modified binary image. Failing that, if it is a clean binary image you're trying to split, then you most likely have the wrong GoodGen dump required for the process, or you've not renamed the binary image to 's1.bin/s2.bin'.

Stop doing that at the end of every post.

Thanks, even if that doesn't solve my problem (which it could, considering I try a different ROM), that was still helpful... :)

...I'll try a different ROM image rather than the extra one I downloaded from a random rom-site.

So far, nothing working... anything stand out other than the fact that this is not inside of SonEd 2?

Name your rom s2/s1. Don't put the .bin there, it will not work

THERE WE GO... TRYING IT NOW!!!

*tries it without wasting another annoying post*

...YES! Now before I get too exited, is there a way to move my existing edits onto a dis-assembled ROM?

Copy the hex from your modified into it's corresponding .bin file. For instance, you said there was new music so find where the music is and copy that into whatever sound file that was edited (for instance, if GHZ's music was edited, open your modified rom in a hex editor, find where the music is, and copy that, then open up music8A.bin and copy that) Since it's already in a sonic 1 rom, you shouldn't have any problems, except that glitch that you mentioned. I'm unsure where the locations are though, but SCHG should have them.

Oh, and off topic, if you wish to edit layouts more in SonEd2, you'll probably want to watch Qjimbo's "how to set up GHZ."

Thanks, now my last issue with dis-assembly deals with re-assembly. I tried to convert my work to a ROM (after inserting the desired music file into the sound folder) to test it out, but no data came on the output disk image; if there's any tutorial links that save you the typing, go ahead and post the link instead.

Click Organize -> Folder Options -> View -> Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types -> Ok. After that you should see the .bin at the end of the file. Now it should be easier to do it :)

Oh and also, you should use ASM68k instead of SNASM68k (just a recomendation).

Well, I use SNASM68k, instead of ASM68k and I never had any problems, and he has his split working now. He's just trying to figure out how to put his edits from his old rom into the new rom.

Well, about that... I actually managed to split my existing, edited ROM. I'm sure this is due to the fact that my edits have remained within the original game's parameters... (i.e. no major memory changes)

Hopefully things are still fine; I was able to open my edited version of Marble Zone, Act 1 in SonEd 2. I know that the Green Hill data needs special procedures to work correctly; this may be the reason why the data currently does not load onto the final output.
