This is one of those "Do it for me" questions. Generally you don't get answers for them, but I'm different:

    1. You can try to port the Sonic 2 options menu to Sonic 1.

    2. Look how it was made in WTF Lame.

Well there is a guide to add a splash screen to your hack, but it comes with artwork advertising RH, so you'd have to make your own, which isn't hard. Just use MS Pain, then convert with ImaGenesis, and compress and replace.

And that wasn't a typo, MS Paint is painful to use. =P

BMP2TILE is what I use very small, simple program great for converting images to megadrive art and mappings. As for the options screen stuff I have seen it done many ways some people copy the level select routine and have it change game options via flags... some people port the s2 options screen - Check out Esreals site as he is good a at this stuff and has plenty of information and examples.

    Thank you, me. =P

Yeah, ImaGenesis is a real bitch to get working if you use Vista though. I had to use it on a Virtual Machine of XP to get it to work properly, so yeah. It is a very handy tool, though, especially for custom Splash Screens. However, animated .gif files don't work, as far as I know, or they do but only the first frame.

Also, if you've seen any of the progress on my hack topic, you'll notice that I managed to port the Level Select screen and convert it into an options menu. If you ever need help doing anything of that sort, then send me a PM, and I'll help you out. I won't copy paste code for you, though, I'll just guide you along the path of righteousness. Although for what you want to do, I'm not entirely sure how you would do that. I am trying something similar with the lives thing, but haven't been too successful with it as of yet.
