Well, considering I'm not working on it anymore, and I don't want to work on it anymore (I haven't worked on it in more than a year, in fact), I may as well release the final build I can recover.

    Download here.

    A few things to consider:

The music isn't the greatest. I've improved vastly over the last year.

A lot of the level layouts are changed. In fact, many of the levels have been cleared out. This means several levels are unwinnable, but Egg Nucleus and Magma Ministry are completable from what I remember.

    And there's many, many bugs.

Don't report any problems, as I'm probably already aware of many of them and I don't even have the source code any more to fix them. Still, this deserves to be available to the public after all the hours of work I put into it.

I mustn't forget to credit others who helped: Spanner, Selbi and several others. It's been so long though that I can't rememember who's helped though, so if you did even a small thing for this, please, don't hesitate to tell me.

Last thing, you can access the level select by the 2 player button on the title screen.

Anywho, I'm off to work on something fresh and new from a clean slate, which should be a lot better.

Well, here's another hack going over without a good ending. =/

This hack is really cool, yes! For the time you spent on it, I feel sure that you did a excellent job.

Its just a shame this wasn't completed, it had great potential. I liked what was done though, the art is quite nice but I still hate that sonic spindash sprite =P.

Its a shame all these hacks are going unfinished... we all should pool what we have of our hacks so far and make it into one big hack lol

I really like the sprites and music!

Super Sonic needs some sprite editing!

I was in the progress of changing Super Sonic's sprites before the computer stopped working properly and I lost the source. I've since recovered and lost it again, so I can't do any more work even if I wanted to.

This looks and plays pretty well.

Unfortunately, at the beginning of the first level, the loop at the beginning doesn't work right.

And at some point, there's tons of boxes that seem to float and you can't seem to get to the other side. I always end up falling to my death. I'm almost always playing as Knuckles, and sometimes, his ability to climb certain walls fails.

Please tell me someone can fix this in a way that doesn't need the source code (ESE2 or whatever).

Looking at posted dates, wow. It's been that long since this has been released? Hurp.

This hack is dead, you can't 'get' its source code unless you disassemble it again, and programs such as ESE depend on specific locations (which are modified when you make changes). As for Knuckles being broken, blame Spanner and his mediocre 'port' that's really just a copypaste with some routines improperly ported over. (It's okay though, I still love you bro). This hack had its moments but it's not very touched up making it frustrating to play. Hopefully we'll see some better projects out of Dalek soon, hm? :p

Indeed! You'll see something soon, that's got much more quality, though I hope you like 8-bit Mega Man. :p

I kid, though. It's actually more or less been a year since I originally lost the source code, so it's pretty impossible for me to finish this and do up the bugs. I have been working on and off something Sonic related recently and it'll be shown when I have substantial work for it (I might actually just use this thread, and rename the title) but for now it's best if this topic's just locked until that time.

That 8-bit thing? Yeah, that's not exactly mine, I'm just a part of the team making it. Look out for "Mega Man Time Tangent" and you'll know what's going on.

Just tried this for myself. I love Egg necleus's background in act 2. Did you do that, or was it from somewhere else?

I also like Sonic's sprites, except for his jump animation, it looks slightly odd. Also, is he bigger than normal? =P

I like Aquatic ruin's art, just not the colours.

Rezo courtyard, I like the background again. You or somewhere else? I'm not too keen on the forground art though, it's too simple for my likings.

Mystic cave reminds me of flying battery for some reason. If the art had a bit more detail in the forground, it would look much better.

Magna ministry's background I love (except for the blocks at the bottom). You are somewhere else? The forground is not so bad either.

All-in-all, not bad. Shame you're not continuing it. It could of been something great.

Can't you get the source code from the ROM image?

Yes, but it'd be near impossible to work properly. Now please stop discussing it.

    I have good news!

I'm not sure if you saw the status on my profile or noticed my signature, but I thought I'd bump this topic to let people know what's going on.

As you're aware, the 2009-2011 iteration of Sonic Thrash is cancelled as I lost the source code and was unable to recover it. That isn't necessarily true; there was a period in which I had the disassembly recovered. I moved it to somewhere where I had thought would be save, my external hard drive, but as fate has it the drive failed and I lost all the data on it. VSTs, games, project files, anime and yes, the Sonic Thrash disassembly. Now, to be completely honest, this bummed the heck out of me. I had put a lot of work into it and it was all gone. It's also the reason why I stopped working on major hacks on my own and instead elected to help other hacks (see Selbi's hacks, for example).

After a fair bit of planning earlier this year I decided I wanted to try ROM hacking again. The plan of what I want to do is all written up and I just need to follow it now (I'm not going to disclose this for obvious reasons) and I've made sure it keeps fairly realistic in regards of what I can do. But the main point is that I've resumed working on it and I'm going to make sure I get something quality out that isn't lost this time.

Spanner and a few others have elected to assist me with regards to this. That said, I'm in desperate need of artists for level art, but as it stands right now I'm not the type to go around begging people for it. Please get in touch via Skype if you're interested in working on the project, however!

I'll keep you guys posted as I get stuff presentable whether it be mock-ups or anything, but the plan is to enter next year's contest. Hoping to have a few early screenshots for the coming days and weeks.

I thought I could give a help here, maybe it might actually get me back into hacking stuff after a long absence of doing my own things.

I also had stuff I was going to do myself, maybe that'll happen as well, or go in this hack. Who knows. Just a few ideas that could turn into an interesting hack.

If you want I can send you this art, not sure if you'd find it useful, however.

I might be willing to contribute some art, as long as I am given a detailed plan of the number of zones, their themes, the art style you're aiming for, the zone layout styles and any special gimmicks you wish to be included which I can work into the art. What you will have to remember though is that my time will be split with Sonic 2 Recreation as well, and that due to work commitments I will not be readily available every day and you may only hear from me once every few days with some form of update.
