I don't understand why is this recorded in a pitch black room there is no color information outside ot the tv/crt monitor I tried brighting it using sony vegas by setting the gain and nothing just pure black (that was last video #2 thought) at least turn on the lights and show the cartridge then people will know it is real.

Hey TheNEK0san, let us see the cart and show up you putting it in!

I do too, I hope to see more of this. :)

As a separate comment I just want to say it's kind of ironic that (If this is legit) a Sonic 1 Prototype ended up in the hands of someone who doesn't want to share it with anybody (besides videos). Come on, do the Sonic community a favor (If this is REALLY legit)! Let this get dumped! All we need after this is a seemingly non-existent Sonic 3 Prototype where you get shot up from Carnival Night to Flying Battery and use that broken ship piece as a snowboard for Ice Cap. Would be VERY cool to see! :D

As far as I'm aware, SEGA still has possession of that beta, and if that's true, It's not likely to be released because that proto is rumored to have the original Michael Jackson/Cirocio Jones tracks.

Still would be VERY cool to see at the very least, I want to see that cutscene, Falling from Flying Battery and grabbing a piece of the ship to use as a snowboard. Sounds like a VERY cool cutscene. Too bad SEGA couldn't find a way to have Mushroom Hill (Mushroom Valley at the time) transition into Sandopolis smoothly in time.

Yep, damn idiot gave it away within seconds, 4 to be exact. What do I mean exactly?

Ok, watch the first video. It takes our good friend Nek()San 4 seconds to reach that first little hill/slope.

Next, watch the third video. After idiotically showing off his sexy, yet obviously not a perfect copy, of the "Welcome" sign, count how many seconds it takes him to reach that first slope again? You guessed it, 4 seconds.

Also, at 2 seconds of the first vid, he's at the position where the sign is at in his 3rd vid.

    This SuperEgg be fakin!

@SuperEgg Shame it isn't real. Hey wait if the guy who's doing this is here tell him I got a challenge, to look more Legit, show us the fabled Sound Test that Yuji Naka mentioned in the interview where he talked about the Sonic 1 Prototype. That would be a cool thing to see, even if this is a fake.

    Fading gives it out.

All Sonic games on Genesis used a special fading technique, that differs from traditional fading, we always see today. It's know as 'blue fading', because during this fading, color channels are increased in turns, not simultaneously. Blue goes first, then green, red is the last. This creates an interesting effect, when everything fades from the shades of blue. Like this:

Now look at the video. At 0:14 we see fading, that looks like this instead:

How it explain it? Obviously, working in MMF/GM/whatever he probably couldn't emulate this or just didn't care. It also looks like he intended to hide this, by removing fading from previous screens (Different fading on SEGA screen would gave it out pretty quickly).

If you still have some doubts, thinking it could be an effect from camera or whatever, take a closer look at the clouds. They should be hardly visible during the 'blue fading', as this is the way this one performs (look at the first screenshot).

Sorry Vladikcomper, but as much as I think what Superegg noticed is definitely a proof it's a fake (the welcome sign is definitely missing from the first video where it's supposed to be in the last video), fading can be changed in many ways.

A huge majority of Megadrive games have a perfectly normal neutral fading similar to MJ's code, and it's obvious to me that a programmer would first make a real accurate fading rather than a 'stylized' version. The blue fading isn't a technical limitation, it's a voluntary design choice, something that probably wouldn't appear in an early version.

After comparing the sign from the picture on the sonic retro wiki and the one from the video, it's obvious that "NEK0San's" sign isn't the original one…

That third vid pretty much confirmed what I first thought a few seconds in on the first vid: that what I was viewing was 100% complete and utter bullshit. The newly added sign in the third vid, that was completely missing from the other vids, has confirmed the cunt's complete and utter lack of authenticity to those who believed it may be genuine. It's a hoax, ladies and gentlemen. Now would you kindly move along as there's nothing to see here.

I must say though, Neko has some serious balls. Trolling the community with such a possibility of the proto existing. If this is truly a hack, and not a fangame, he should come out of his closet and admit it. This is probably the best s1 hoax yet.

well this dude must have had a lot of time on his hands for this. i will say that i also agree that this looks like a fake but i must admit he did a pretty damn good job at this, the way he made this hoax looks like how it would have moved from that CIS videos of the beta(mostly the way the game scrolls i mean). too bad it's a fake though, still i wouldn't mind trying this out BS or not.

I agree, even though this is a hoax ROM, I still would like to play it though, and he must be a semi-good hacker because I thought it was true at first. Wonder what his motive was.

Oh and CrashSG32 Hope you become a member! :)

Apparently, Its not even a ROM hack… It was made in MMF or GameMaker or something similar…

Story: lols1proto. People sucking dick say it's real. People with a brain know it's fake. Naka is at first unsure if this is real, partly fooled, then comes out saying it's a fake. The end.

Seriously, what is there left to talk about? This isn't a 'good' hoax.
