Since Sonic Intense was too hard and nearly impossible, I canceled it and started on new hacks. One such hack is Sonic 1 Striked, which features new art, music, layouts, and palettes. The screenshot shown below is of Gems Zone, the Zone I am currently working on. Please feel free to tell me any ideas you have for this hack.

The FG and BG palette is too dark, not only that I can barely tell what's the BG and the FG. First lighten both of them, but make the FG perhaps a tad lighter than the BG palette.

It is indeed dark. What if you keep it like this, but also implement a "light switch" feature like Sandopolis 2?

Surprisingly enough, even though the palette is dark, I kinda like it dark. Good job.

#1: I intended for the BG to be dark. It's a cave. #2: I can't add a light switch, I don't know how to code it. Sorry Nineko. #3: Here is a screenshot of my improved palette:

Dark is good but I think the point is that there's not enough contrast and it's hard to differentiate between the foreground and the background.

Okay then, I believe now you can tell them apart.

I can, however, I think you should turn down the intensity of the hue, it's a bit of an eyesore to look at it for a long time. It's a good colour, it's just a bit strong.

I think Irixion is trying to say that there's too much saturation on those blues. Turn it down a bit and the blue should be easier to look at.

Yes basically what Sonic Boom said. Too much saturation is an eye burner.

In case you don't know, the past tense of "strike" is "struck". "Striked" isn't even a real word.

Oops, I'll rename it, and I'll turn the saturation down.

That's a very good point, but there is a problem with that.

"Sonic 1 Striked" is a name, names do not necessarily need to be correct in terms of spelling, that's why names are not in the dictionary and why you cannot use names in word games, anyone can make them up.

I'm not arguing the case that it should be striked, I'm not fond of it either, but the point still stands, you cannot correct someone's spelling if what they're spelling is a name they created themselves.

If it is insisted that correct spelling is to be used, then I would prefer to go for simply strike, struck in the past tense makes it feel like something special already happened before you had started the game, strike makes it feel as though that special something is occuring at this precise moment in time.

I guess it might have came across that i wanted him to change the name to "Sonic 1 Struck", but it's not really what I meant, it's a pretty awkward sounding name. I agree that using made up words is fine (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is fucking perfect), it's just that "striked" sounds weird and wrong instead of weird and cool.

I agree with MarkeyJester, too. I will rename my hack to Sonic 1 Strike. By the way, here is a new screen shot. I think the bricks are okay to look at now, and I have changed the texture of the bricks.

Here is my first and very small demo of Sonic 1 Strike. Green Dusk Zone's Art is unchanged, and Gems Zone is the same as in my previous post's screenshot. Note: It is very early in development, so the spike bug and speed cap hasn't been removed and there is no spin dash. Here is the download (I have made some layout changes since then so I replaced the original demo with the fixed layout version.) Sonic 1 Strike Demo Fix.rar

I haven't played it, because you've released it toooooooooo early.  But I will comment on these screen shots.  The GHZ palette looks very nice and really does give it a dusk look.  The MZ blue is still way too dark, although the BG isn't looking too bad.

    1. I agree, I released it way too early. 2. Thanks for the complement. 3. The MZ blue is supposed to be that dark, it's nighttime.

MZ is far too saturated. Turn the intensity of the colour blue down in the foreground.
