    This is hella rad.

..Orch hits are questionable, though, but that's something that can be fixed, I hope!

Yeah that's something I want to work out. Right now there's like 3 notes in 3 different octaves; I wanna figure out the pitch values for at least one full octave of orchestral hits and then put the right notes in there. Shouldn't be too hard.

    oh... Oh ah ahhhh AHHHHH!

    Uh...

C-could someone get me a new pair of pants? Please?

But yeah, like everyone else, ohmygodthisisfuckingamazing10/10besthack.

To be honest, this looks a lot more like a fan game more then a hack. And if the rest of your hack is anything like what you have showed us, I feel that this might be one of the best Sonic games (fan made or not) since the original trillogy.

This has gallons and gallons of potential and i'm really happy what your doing with it. Keep up with this amazing work sir. And it pains and exits me that I will probably have to wait till sometime in 2015.

    Hype train Choo Choo!

So this'll be playable in some form by SHC2015? Well, now I have another reason to want it to be summer.

It may be in 2014, who knows. It could be released the morning of New Years eve :p. It's not a fangame at all. It's a hack of S3K upgraded a ton.

A very nice arrangement indeed; the only complaints I'd have is the Orchestra Hits (which have already been addressed) and the string instrument.. I dunno, something about it sounds too.. weak? for the song? I dunno. It needs more power and oomph, somehow. I just wish I had a suggestion for a replacement.

    Otherwise, simply brilliant.

I more or less said this in the Skype call where you first showed me this a day or two ago and I'll say it again: This is really well done. The shading could use a bit of work, particularly on the quills, but overall it's definitely something worth looking at.

Keep up the awesome work, Var.

The spoilers are awesome and all, but you think you could save at least a little bit of it for a big in game reveal? Heck, I'd much rather have a playable demo give away things then some snapshots (not that they aren't awesome, they just don't have that atmosphere, you know?).

I completely disagree with you, Pacguy. I've had enough playable demos that show me one zone or one act to last me a lifetime. I like the use of screenshots to show things while still leaving it to the member viewing it to use their imagination and wonder how it could work. That's exactly what this screenshot does and, in fact, makes me hyped to see the final product which I presume is still quite a way off.

In regards to the image; I really like it. It's not something that's been done before and I am genuinely intrigued as to how it'll play out in game.

One thing to note about Kai is do not go by Chaotix. He's gonna be completely different. Everybody knows Mecha Sonic and all that is in the game but the stuff for the release isn't being displayed. You'll just have to wait on the release.

As good as that looks, it still bothers me with how much rehashed art is being used. For a game with such potential, being touted as Sonic 4 (and not the shit Sega presented us with), I would much rather and indeed expect to see more original content than has been shown. While Chaotix has a fair amount of great art, I've seen it before and don't really care for seeing it again in a hack with more potential than that. That said, I'm very much looking forward to what you do in terms of programming that boss, but I am and always have been very much orientated towards the art in hacks, and at the moment I'm finding it off putting. Seeing a 2D rendition of Metal Overlord or something of that variety would be a lot more interesting from an artistic point of view and would keep the hack fresh.

Anyway, keep up the good work.

I see where your coming from, but I think he said alot of it is just place holders, testing the water if you will. By the way, who is to say he isn't going to do the 2D Metal Sonic Overlord?. He's obviously just testing this so I won't be surprised if it will be different.(Well I'm hoping at least)

To be honest, although the idea of it being a placeholder did cross my mind, the sheer size of that particular sprite made me think that it's a hell of a lot of effort putting in a sprite of that scale for the sake of a placeholder. I could be wrong, but putting in something complex in design temporarily seems somewhat counterproductive.

As someone who's been contributing to this recently, I can assure you that it didn't take Varion too much effort to insert that sprite. Can't say whether or not it'll remain unchanged as I'm not aware myself, but switching it out for something new in the future wouldn't be an issue at all. And as he said, Kai will act differently from the Chaotix boss fight, so the art being used for placeholder purposes isn't too unreasonable.

But why show off the implemented art as the sole point of the spoiler image if its temporary?

To show that something like this (mind you, this being something that's not attempted or seen very often) is implemented and functional? Even though a still screenshot doesn't depict it, there is a fair bit more going on here. And I would love to say a bit more about what this boss is doing, but I don't think it's in my place to reveal what plans and ideas someone has for their project while they would prefer to keep some surprises for future reveals or releases.
