Oh dear, did you not learn from this or this? If I were you, I would re-read the rules and shape up, quick.

Given that nobody in the previous two topics was even polite enough to give constructive feedback spare for 1 person, I wouldn't say the fault is entirely his. People, newbies will not learn if they are not given constructive feedback.

Now then, CollinAB, I suggest you get the following tools and start working to make your hack something more than just a palette swap.

SonED2 OR SonLVL (for level editing, though can be used for object art editing as well if you know enough)

SonMapED (for editing object art, mappings, and DPLCs)

    SoniPlane (for editing plane mappings)

ConTEXT or another good text editor other than Notepad (for editing code)

And of course, you'll need the proper tutorials and resources as well:

68k User Manual (probably won't help you much, but it's useful for learning cycle times)

RHS' guide on working with 68k assembly (great for learning the basics of coding)

Lots of other tutorials on things you can do with the main Sonic games (useful for understanding how basic stuff is done)

However, you also shouldn't be afraid to experiment with your own code and see what you come up with. If you find it's nice to look at, then hurrah! You have a new thing!

Happy hacking, and have an awesome day~

So far, it's better than the other ones. However, I suggest waiting until more stuff on the hack is completed before posting a new topic.

Sorry guys, no accidental source code in this post.

EDIT: WAIT THIS IS JUST THE SAME THING AS ONE OF YOUR TOPICS THAT WAS TRASHED.

Stop trying to pick fights over people having a low tolerance for blatant ignorance. There are rules that were supposed to be read; there were examples of what (not) to do that should have been acknowledged. If they're not putting any effort into it, why should people put any effort into responding? What's more, if they weren't willing to learn anything before, what makes you think they're willing to learn from your post?

To be honest, it does look like SOME effort has been put into it. And while people can laugh at this guy all they want, out of the three topics he's made about this (admittedly unnecessary and silly), there's been exactly ONE post that gave something constructive to say. Yes, the hack isn't actually very good at all. Doesn't matter. People learn from their mistakes.

Anyways, as ThomasSpeedrunner said, get SonED2. The level-editor is quite easy-to-use and it looks like you're in dire need of a new layout.

Take your time, CollinAB. Good hacks don't get made over the course of a few days. My advice to you is to read up on what you can, Playtest CONSTANTLY (this tip really helped me out), and fix any and all things that slightly bug or annoy, you, or are just obviously plain out broken. And remember, space your updates out! Try releasing each update a week or so apart, it will make you look much more favorable (and save your precious, precious trialist posts). Also, try putting screenshots into the OP, it really makes you and your hack look better.

    Inb4 trash.

Anyway, good start. You may wanna fix the E in SCORE, and then dive deep into level layouts. Make sure to place your objects properly, and not to have any broken chunks. Playtest. Keep in mind Sonic 2's plane system.

I'll admit it, this is a way better version than the Coming Soon build. A couple of small problem is the warp sound is kinda grainy, but otherwise, it's good, with the palettes looking pretty good. You might have a somewhat decent hack on your hands coming off the Coming Soon build, though you can't just rely on palette swaps, just like ThomasSpeedrunner mentioned. I've been working on my hack myself, and yes, I do use palette swaps, but I can't rely on it all the time. I got to use something different. Overall, this is a good start to a hack, and I can't wait 'till the next version, with you using tools that Thomas recommended.

Is it me or is something wrong with Tails' AI? He seems to keep trying to go right next to Sonic.

He's supposed to do that, it's how Sonic 2 works. Basically, if Tails isn't near Sonic, he wants to be near Sonic according to the game's code, hence he will go left if Sonic is to the left, he will go right if Sonic is to the right, etc.
