Sonic 2: Painto Edition [2.0 PROGRESS]

    Okay, it's time for release of First Public Version. More information you can find in the README file.

    Write here all your opinions - criticism, feedback, compliments, etc. It's important for me and it helps to improve.

    Instead of publishing everything S2:pE related in Screens thread, I decided to make a thread for it.
    As in previous PE, my goal is change as much as possible. Should be noted that I suck at making multiple paths. But anyway, this is what I'm planning for First Public Release:

    Zones:

    • Sunset Hill Zone (Emerald Hill) (now 60% done) (finished :D)
    • Green Forest Zone (Wood Zone) (early phase, +-10% done) (finished :D)
    • Hidden Palace Zone (finished :D)
    • Oil Ocean Zone (not started yet)
    • Sky Fortress Zone (Sky Chase Zone is act 1 and Wing Fortress is act 2, only palettes made at the moment)
    • E.G.G. Station Zone (Death Egg Zone) (not started yet, but I'm planning to make it full length zone) (about 10%)
    Other than that, I'm planning to edit one or two special stages. At the moment I've did first segment of first stage.Screenshots:

    That's all at the moment. I will post in this thread recent news about hack progress and other stuff. Release will be when I will finish all these 11 acts.

    How so, bro?! The reason for that Hidden Palace use a different palette(not original) is for that have more variation in the game, because all ports I've have seen of Hidden Palace, has always used the same palette, and this is kind of boring.

    Edit: An exception to: Sonic (2) Zeta Overdrive, this hack use a blue palette for Hidden Palace.

    Well yeah okay I get that just, why only use one color (besides the waterfall and stuff), and have that color be purple?

    I was trying to get night theme. In one of posts in Screens thread I used blue color, but it was "too blue", so I changed it to purple. Also, is this the most important element of the game? How about layouts? They also are important, but nobody said nothing :<

    The layouts look good, we just want the everything else to be better, too. Try using different colors for the background and foreground. Maybe a purple or blue background and a silver foreground, or something like that. The FG and BG kind of blend together as is.

    I'm, oddly enough, really hyped to try out the new Hidden Palace Zone layout.

    It's about time that level got something other done to it than being ported.

    Overall, I really like how this is turning out so far! Keep it up!

    Strange thing to ask but is he at the same height as in Sonic 1? I always got the feeling that if he were a little higher (i.e. you couldn't just hit him regardless of where he was), the fight would play out quite differently, and actually be a challenge.

    Maybe a slower scrolling speed for the background, similar to how S3K does it? It will give the Earth an impression that it's huge.

    Chemical Plant/"Traditional space station zone" should probably have new artwork, but besides that, I see no issues, a true accomplishment, indeed! I look forward to this release!

    This hack is brillant, but I have two nitpicks: 1. The layout for HPZ/BZ boss is a dick move to me anyways, why not put just bridges or springs at the pits? 2. I got stuck on a part in DEZ2 where a door shut me where I was at a end of the loop, was I supposed to spindash up the loop? Other from that, the hack was a pleasure to play, Can't wait until the next release.
