Hey guys, here is another small hack. Yes, this is another one that changes the FM sound in the game, but this time, instead of diving into the game code using the disassembly and changing the frequency tables like last time, I was using Sonic One Music Editor to change the total level of the FM operators. I did not apply the change to all of the songs in the game, for the reason that trying to modify some of the songs crashes the program. That, and I most likely did not want another incident like what has happened with my other minihack.

    The download:

We have a thread for these kind of mini hacks

Music-wise I can't really make out a lot of the so called "awesomeness". Apart from most of the music being pretty much the same, the few things that do sound different aren't exactly pleasing to the ears. Take Marble Zone for example, which starts with a really weird and long drone sound a few seconds into it. Other songs, like Star Light, are just really painful to listen to with headphones.

I appreciate your effort, but I get a bit iffy when something literally has "awesome" in the title and I'm being let down.

How is awesomeness defined? Can Sonic 1's music be made more awesome (and without changing the style)?

Is this a joke hack? I don't really see the point. The only thing that's really changed is some of the music and they just use different instruments.

Also, the beginning of Green Hill Zone sounds like Sanic's theme.

Sorry to say but Im also going to have to go with everyone else on this. I was expecting something like full head on remixed versions of the songs, but I can see thats not the case at all. the music doesn't really sound all to good or "awesome" as you said it would be. in fact, most of the songs sounds off... way off. the only good thing I will say is that I do kinda like the guitar sounding touch on the title screen music, but for the most part, I pretty much will echo what ProjectFM Said. also I wouldn't really recommend using S.O.M.E.[sonic one music editor] as there are other ways of editing the songs or rather creating your own from scratch [Assuming that you know the basics in Hex editing that is].

I was pretty curious to see what this could be like, but on startup I get an incorrect checksum, resulting in a red screen. I'm using fusion, if that is the cause. Anyone else having this problem?

That's the problem im having with this hack. the checksum has been left unfixedinvalid making it so im unable play this hack  and it really annoys when people do that.

I don't really think making the music higher pitched will make it better, to be perfectly honest. So yeah, what everyone else said. Sorry.

Not really higher pitched, a lot of tracks break. Still, interesting concept

Go to Options > Set Config > Genesis and tick AutoFix Checksum.
