As if anyone didn't already have enough temptation to break things intentionally. May as well make some fun easter eggs out of it, at least.

The world of the original Sonic Mega Collection, Royanized.

    GSOE8P-3.png

    GSOE8P-4.png

This is a mini~preview of a Texture Pack for Sonic Mega Collection that I am working on over the course of today and this upcoming weekend, currently about a quarter of the way done.
The original Gamecube title only has a few hundred textures (not including Comic and Manual Pages, which I will not be working on for this pack at this time), and the majority of those textures literally take up all of the menu screens, the two being presented above are the Options and Game Preview Menus, respectively.

What this Texture Pack aims to deliver is a more Royameadow and Co. themed visual template, and as you view the two above screenshots and what you will view in the official release, you will notice that all of the menus are modified to present one of the team's Head and Co~Head Administrators, with The Leaders 015 taking up the Menu Option Selection Box.
As you also might happen to notice, this pack, much similar in the aspect approached with Royan Vacation '16, is more friendly to that of DualShock users (especially the DualShock 04, the key detail being the L03 Pad in the Options Menu), the default controls are that A is Cross, B is Square, and X is Circle (for the Manuals and Comics, L will be L02, R will be R02, and the C Stick will be the R03 Pad); at the same time, I am also going out of my way to change all of the Attraction Screenshots that the Game Preview Menu deliver, if only to remedy the issue that the original screenshots had when being resized into Super HD (1080p) and Hyper HD (1600p) video, but you might notice that some of the presented screenshots are not actually what the original ROM image for that title looks like (The preview made for Sonic the Hedgehog (1991), for example, uses screenshots from Never Stop Running and Sonic the Hedgehog Megamix (2011) for a more dynamic feel to the Preview, which does work in its own respect, it's not showing off too much of the uniqueness from those two titles, respecftully, it simply be the basics), and that be intentional, I felt that the original screenshots provided in SMC were downright bland or odd to look at (seriously, Sonic the Hedgehog 03's preview has a very misplaced semi~closed Right Eye on the Title Screen, freaks me out horribly at times), and changing them up would allow for a better polishing up in some probable way, it allows for the titles to not show off too much in their previews yet still deliver positive interest in wanting to play them; doing all of this is indeed fun, Gamecube Art Modding truly does seem to be my specialty, I truly am enjoying the major liberties that it delivers to me and the fact that the above presented only took about two hours is not bad at all, making this Texture Pack truly has been fun up to now, and I completely feel happy that I could give Sonic Mega Collection some love, it does not obtain what it rightfully deserves some of the time; I think that this is (one of, if not) the first art mod of the game that has been ever publicly presented in some form as well, this truth truly does present to us how much the times have come in the scene, not even I had thought that this would be possible many years ago, and I've got to deliver the necessary acclaim to the folks at Dolphin for this, this would not be possible without their Texture Dumping and Custom Texture Loading features, so they deserve a good amount of credit on this as well, it truly be all well worth it. :)

Going by the fact that I have decided to remix my Sonic 3 No Spindash Challenge recently. Currently working mainly on Sonic 3 Stages atm. While this is a mini hack in concept I am now broading it up to become a full hack.
Palette is changed and minor touches to the original level design can be seen.

Let's make screenshots thread great again!
tbh, I don't see anything worth showing atm except the palette which is pretty decent. I'm sure you know that but just a reminder that you need to change the other palettes too, because as you showed they change on players view (in original S3&K the player never notices the change). Otherwise, all I've seen is just S3&K all over again. Much like these "totally-not-Green-Hill-Zone-recolor" levels.

To make another use of this post, I may show something very special (at least for me). Something that I wasn't sure if I'm going to pull off until now. But I did it. It looks a bit different that my first concept, but here it is. Brace yourselves for Burne... Boiled Labyrinth!

I hope you like this. As always, C&C are welcome.

Seeing that new HUD and those updates make me realize that I've been missing a lot of things lately. Sick looking stuff there, man.

A slight nitpick Painto. If you want to make the Zone name sound grammatically correct, I recommend changing the Zone name to "Boiling Labyrinth".
"Boiled Labyrinth" sounds very odd to the native English speaker.

What, aren't they all in the past tense, though? 'Burned', 'roasted', etc. I wouldn't say boiled is incorrect, just a little awkward.

I am Italian and I like boiled labyrinth. Also that title card is fantastic, except maybe the red "1" which is barely readable and looks out of place.

Good point. You could change Sonics drowning animation to him catching fire.

Actually it takes you 1 ring every 3 seconds. My initial concept was to kill the player if he's out of rings, but I found it dickish so scrapped the dying. That's also the purpose of the Red Shield btw.
The red number/BOSS text is readable on the pre-level title card, but I don't want to reveal it at this moment.

Also, thanks you all for the comments.

I also like the idea of harmful water, plus the appropriate shield to counter it. Gives it a Super Metroid feel.

I like this idea, although I do have to ask: will there be a visual or audio cue to show that you are losing rings? If there currently is not, I would recommend you add one, as I can imagine players getting frustrated with scrambling for one ring for protection, only for it to be lost 3 seconds later by the searing heat of the water.

It plays a ring collecting sound (I don't have any other idea :v) after you lose a ring.

Not really dickish, it's a pretty good idea.Just add some good amount of rings. Without dying, everything is pointless.

Oh, maybe remove the run-out-of-air behaviour?

Seeing as the Toxomister badnik in Lava Reef Zone Act 2 does this, also, then that makes sense.

Also, I don't think 'without dying, everything is pointless' makes much sense in this context. I really like the idea of forcing a player to be creative with their ring collection, and when you have minimal or even 0 rings (as the case may be quite often, here), then you are less prone to taking risks for fear of death.

Funny I went back to my MTZ (Massacre Temple Zone) a while back and gave the water ring loss a sound too, (they decrease slower now as well) but I found an unused sound and just made a new ring sound but at a lower frequency to specify that one of the characters rings died lol. It wouldn't make sense to me to have it be the normal ring sound when you lose a ring, as getting rings is a good thing, which is why it sounds cheery.

Even with my username, I don't want the hack be a pain to play. We thought that removing this behavior will be better, because:
    1. Being without rings & shield underwater in a maze full of trapsand the fact the player needs to be more careful to don't die is hard enough.
    2. Being hurt without shield (losing all of the rings = making them 0) would be an instadeath which isn't fun at all, especially if you're in half of the game.
If I've only knew how to edit sounds...
