Personally, I think every trophy should have the top three hacks listed for the category, obviously with the exception of the overall top three hack trophies. That would help people see where their hack is ranking in the eyes of the judges and gives them a target to aim for. It'd certainly help to end some of the bitching that goes on about people not winning trophies. At the end of the day, if someone comes in and cleans up on the trophies then you should see that as an incentive to push your own hack and abilities to try and hit those standards. If one person can do it, then anyone can with enough practice and dedication. If the contest really is your end all and be all to the hacking scene, then maybe you should just walk away and find a hobby that doesn't piss you off so much and where you can always feel like the top dog.

Oh good, the intentional shitpost got things back on rails.

Words weren't working, so something a tad bit more strategic was needed. Look, it's one thing to not agree with and have issues with the contest. It's something else entirely when you wank off with vague bitching and come off as a twat. The thinly-veiled condescension and disdain toward the staff for working their asses off isn't amusing. You want to criticize? Fine. Do it with some fucking substance. Don't vaguely complain and be an unhelpful little fuck.

There are some posts to trash, but from this point forward, I want to see some fucking maturity. This shit's gotten way past old, and respect has been tossed out the window. The contest staff wants to work to make this contest a lot better, and we're all listening. You also have to remember we're human, we're volunteers, and it's a lot of work to do this year after year. Grow up, grow a pair, and behave. I'm not enjoying that every time I look at SSRG, I get annoyed.

    Step it up.

I understand if people didn't feel like one hack needed to win all the awards it did. I can sort of see how that would come off awkwardly. But believe me when I say this, I played every single entry I could, I streamed as many as I could, and judged accordingly. Same with the rest of the judges. And yet, it seemed like Markey's hack just seemed to stand out in many ways, compared to the competition. Mind you, that's not to say everyone else's were bad. There were a few gems there. But out of everyone's there Markey's seemed to fare better. His was the least flawed out of the bunch. And I know the feeling of working hard for something only to feel like it was for nothing. I've been there. But this is a contest and, unfortunately, not everyone can win. The more quality you can put into your entry, the more it will be recognized. It may not seem like it, especially after the results of last year, but we do pay attention to all the entries and see what there is to work with.

I guess what I'm saying is this. I recommend looking at the standpoint of the judges. Because, trust me, we didn't rig anything. We didn't treat anyone unfairly or undeserving. It's just, we looked at what we had to work with, and I and the rest of the judges just simply struggled to have a variety of winners here. It wasn't for suspicious reasons or for bad intent. We just did our job as usual. It's a perspective that, to be fair, not many have seen. But seeing that perspective can easily clue you in to our mindset. And it's a mindset that didn't intend on wrongdoing.

"Bu- bu- it's unfair that someone made a good hack that earned a lot of accolades! You judges aren't doing your jobs and being fair to everyone! Your opinions suck, because you're judges and you aren't allowed to make mistakes or have opinions!"

'Tis the life. Can't win for losing. Try to make good and work with people, and all you get is shit in return. Made to feel miserable for even being involved in this damned contest. We're not human, according to the public. We play by agendas and political games and power-mongering, rather than just donating our time to do something fun for the community. Srs bzns, and all that.

Come on guys, this isn't cool. MarkeyJester deserved those trophies. Nothing should change about the contest at all. I'm sure it was run the the exact same way year after year after year, so why can't we keep with the trend? Sure as hell it was disappointing not winning anything but that's what happens in life. Until you can put some great hacks out there for people to love and enjoy, you just need to work harder, keep concentrated and only then will the awards come your way. I wouldn't like the results of last year's contest causing the Sonic Hacking Contest's downfall.

Going back to the topic itself, I am wondering if we should improve the community interaction for SHC. The contest IRC channel never really got that much attention, and I would think having it be more "visible" to encourage people to join and chat would be cool. Given its a community event I think interaction between members of the community or just some people interested in the hacks and streams could be a neat thing.

It's in the works, trust me when I say we're working on something to help better the whole "community interaction" ideal. Since 2013, the walls between the main Sonic Community and the Hacking community has been slowly breaking down, hopefully with the proposals and research I've made we can better the interaction.
As Ben Kalough would say, "It's the Sonic Hacking Contest, as you truly imagined!"

In the SHC 2016 site will be less problems with YT video uploading in the entries? In SHC 2015 I had problems with my entry - my YT videos wasn't working. I'll also join to SHC 2016, if my hacks will not have a terrible level layout, music, glitches and other bad stuff for others.

I think perhaps what could be done is make the judges' decisions public at the end of contest. Meaning that if other judges voted on entries for that trophy but didn't win, you could see it.

I would be totally down for that, especially provided the fact that you folks had done this for Sonic Hacking Contest XIII's results in the Results thread, I forget if that was on Retro, SSRG, or both.
Knowing where the judges had decided to stand in their decisions following the Results Show definitely allowed us to know what you folks had preferred the most for each trophy and it also gives us a view of how close some entries had been to claiming select ones in particular; heck, I think that it was only a one vote difference that had prevented Cybernetic Outbreak '15 from becoming the winner of the Genocide City Zone Trophy, if I am looking at the percentages correctly, scenarios such as this is absolute proof that every vote by the judges count, all that it takes be the decision of one to determine the entire outcome of a victory.

Given that though, I have to question the following scenario: Suppose any of the future contests beyond this point end up having an even number of judges, come Contest Week, and there is a tie between entries, re~votes for a trophy between the top tied entries voted for trigger yet another draw, which causes the voting on that trophy to become Deadlocked.
How exactly would the judges handle a Deadlocked scenario if such a factor were to come into play; would there be some special scenario that would occur, similar as to how in Survivor, they would have to draw rocks in a Deadlocked situation to determine who gets eliminated out of Tribal Council?

I think that the discussion on a Deadlocked scenario has been talked about before in a prior contest thread, but I am totally unsure, so wishfully, that could be explained here, this truly made me curious since I don't know how often this has happened or if this has been ever even thought about.

Call me stupid, but you mean reveal their decisions anonymously, right?

They go onto netplay and play Sonic Bash to determine the final say ^_^

I've been pulled out of bed sick to make this post and I don't appreciate that I'm having to come here and lecture everyone about how to behave in the community that I've put two decades of my fucking time into.

I said this many pages ago and it seems that people completely fucking missed it. They're coming back. I don't know why they left. I came back, I said they're coming back. They are.

That being said, you trophy kids (and newer generations) need to understand that, in the real world, not everyone gets a feel good "you played, too!" prize. If you don't get mentioned as winning and if another hack wins a bunch of trophies -- or even all of them -- that means you need to step it up and do better. If you feel that you're lacking in some area, talk to other people, pool your efforts. Excel. I don't think revealing other judges personal decisions is needed. If another judge voted for something, throw it in the runner-up category. Then it still gets mentioned. That's what it's there for!

This is fucking Sonic people. Let's have fun! Stop being drama queens for two fucking minutes. I do agree with Mike Berry on that. This community has so much fucking drama...

Sorry Ayla, I did in fact miss your post about them coming back, my bad. I must admit, I did post rather abruptly here at the time.

I'll be sure to read the other 90% of the thread before posting next time dX

Man for a contest based around a blue hedgehog people are taking it way too seriously. Contests are supposed to be fun, you should be having fun working on hacks and presenting your work in a contest. Ultimately it's going to be up to the judges who wins what, and you shouldn't get butthurt over something so small. You should have fun while hacking, and if you're not then this really isn't the best hobby for you is it? Anyways I'm looking forward to what people are going to bring to this year's contest. Maybe if I stop being lazy I might actually enter something in the contest this year, who knows? :V

If anything, don't let the results demotivate you. Keep trying and never give up. I'm sure you'll win a trophy as long as you keep going.

But, most importantly, remember that it's all in good fun.

I'd think roughly the same as last year, but more is always nice.

(I got permission from Spanner to post this in here). Well, I promised to get this video out months ago, but life kept getting in the way. Now that the SHC2016 has been announced, it was time to get a move on. So I give you, The Sonic Hacking Contest 2015 Results Review! This is where I review the SHC2015, and each hack that won at least 1 trophy. I will also quickly give my SHC2016 expectations! It took me ages and a lot of work to get this done, so I hope you enjoy it.

PLEASE NOTE: If you’re going to skip the introduction to this video and just watch a particular hack being showcased, then please read this next spoiler (you don’t have to if you’re going to watch the introduction to the video).

Everything I say in this video is my opinion which I am entitled to. Just as much as you’re entitled to yours. I will be totally unbiased to every hack in this video. You can agree and disagree with me on anything you like; the comments section is open! But I want to get it out there that even though there will be plenty of good points in this video, I will be giving out a few bad points to every hack here and there. I’m not going to jump on the bandwagon and say “This hack is awesome” just because everyone else has. If I like it, I like it. If I don’t like it, I will say so. But please, please accept these points as criticism, and not me bashing your hard work. I respect that the creators have worked extremely hard on creating their hacks, and I by all means, I do not want to put them down. But I do want them to respect my opinion (otherwise you or they wouldn’t be watching this), and decide for themselves if they agree with me or not. So, to any creator of the hack that is about to watch this, (or anyone watching for that matter), if you do not take criticism (or cons) very well, it may be best not to watch this. But don’t worry, like I said, I will be doing a lot of praising too!

If this video goes really well and gets good marks/likes/subs, I will be very grateful (as I worked hard on it), and I will do another video: Sonic 1 – 50Hz vs 60Hz.
