So the question came up. Is the Sonic 1 Telephone hack allowed to compete in the hacking contest? Personally I think it would be an awesome idea. But I can see why it would not.

My opinion on this might not mean much if the judges think differently, but if I had to say, the Telephone Hack is a ROM hack that was made with a Group Effort, and since the contest allows for Group Hacks, then yes, I personally feel that it rightfully deserves to be allowed for submission.
If Staff Projects on SSRG are wholly allowed to be entered for prior installments of the contest (with Sonic Hacking Contest XIII being the most recent contest to have one, that entry being Sonic Bash!), then I feel that Telephone Hacks deserve to be a part of it as well; it is still a Sonic title full throttle and does not contain anything that the judges would render out to be either or both arbitrary and/or disqualifying, and as such, it deserves to be treated as a regular entry yet submitted as a Group Hack, I personally do not view anything wrong with that and it truly would be saddening if that truth were to be viewed or thought of otherwise.

Uhhh....ok. Finished reading that god damn novel of a post....

But he's right. The Telephone Hack is a-ok. It has to be submitted as a Team hack, but otherwise, it should be good, unless somebody shoves stolen content into it. Have fun, impress us with this thing. With a potential huge group, we expect to be wow'ed by this thing.

Now, excuse me as I grab an aspirin. I need this headache to end.

Seriously Royameadow, simple two sentence post. Not all this fucking fluff of a long ass novel. It gets real fucking old.

It's a public project tho. It's not really a team hack. It's a project sent between multiple people.

A team consists of multiple people.

What I mean is that it's 1 person that sends it off. Anyway I will wait until I got an official answer.

The telephone hack will be allowed. Everyone involved, if it wins, would be considered part of the winning team. The prize for it, if it wins, will need to be discussed.

    That is the official answer.

    1. The post you are complaining about isn't merely as bad as you say it is, stop overreacting.
    2. His recent posts have reduced in size by over 70%, he wasn't forced to do so, but he did anyway out of courtesy, and as such, I respect that.
    3. I will kindly ask you not to backseat mod, please, we as the staff are more than capable of deciding whether or not his post is justifiable for a good spanking, thank you very much.

Are puzzle hacks with very little layout changes allowed?
I mean having to hit a monitor to gain an emerald before proceeding. Find the change to find this monitor.

Find the change? I'm sorry. I'm not sure I understand what you mean. If you mean is a hack that simply changes the game to where a monitor is used to get an emerald rather than a special stage, that would be considered a proof of concept or technical hack. We do allow those, but be aware that something that simplistic would most likely be dwarfed by competition.

I'm sure the plant could be broken down into pieces if need be.

Each person will get one leaf. The person who came up with the concept gets the flower.

I think he means something akin to The 30 Day Challenge. You can't proceed beyond a specific point unless you pop open an Emerald Box hidden in the level. However, unlike The 30 Day Challenge, he wants to keep the level's layout pretty much intact, save for one small section, where the Box will be hidden.

    Am I correct here, Warr1or2?

Admittedly, Knuckles' Emerald Hunt was similar, but that had the benefit of having Knuckles in it, so at least something was fresh. It also had three things to collect instead of one.

OK then. I may not submit it yet, but since I have multiple projects, is there a limit to hacks that can be submitted?

This question is asked every single year, and I think the answer is the same every time: Yes, you can submit as many hacks as you want, as long as they contain new content, and aren't a re-submission of a previous year's entry. Or something like that.

Reading through the rules in the initial post, however, suggests that people are likely to have one submission, and there's no mention of the possibility of multiple entries from a single person either. Maybe the rules should be adjusted slightly to make this clear, and also stop it from being asked every time?

There isn't a restriction on entering more than one entry, and unless the rules specifically say otherwise, there will continue to not be a restriction. If people want to be ambitious and enter multiple entries, we're fine with that.

I mean, there were a few people who submitted multiple hacks last year. If you really need an answer to a question, it's a good idea to do some digging on your own before you ask it. And I mean this in any case.
