As requested by my friend. Sprites are glitchy but that's what you get when you do this in 30 minutes.

Back in December I showed off the soundtrack I was using for my hack Sonic Next Genesis that consisted of songs ported over from other Genesis games. Now, I have improved the soundtrack with better and more fitting songs to create what I believe works perfectly with my hack.

02 Menu - Virtua Racing Deluxe - Name Entry
    03 Wave Ocean 1 - Shura No Mon - Battle Theme 1
    04 Wave Ocean 2 - The Hybrid Front - Rebellion 2
    05 Dusty Desert 1 - Cosmic Carnage - Narut0's Stage
    06 Dusty Desert 2 - Shinobi 3 - My Dear D
    07 White Acropolis 1 - Shadow Dancer - Stage 2-1
    08 White Acropolis 2 - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Stage 6
    09 Crisis City 1 - Shadow Dancer - Stage 4-2
    0A Crisis City 2 - Cosmic Carnage - Yug's Stage
0B Flame Core 1 - Golden Axe III - Death Mountain
    0C Flame Core 2 - Cosmic Carnage - Cyclic's Stage (Fully Armored)
0D Radical Train 1 - Virtua Racing Deluxe - Replay
    0E Radical Train 2 - The Hybrid Front - Moon - Mars ~ Cocoon 1
    0F Tropical Jungle 1 - Aa Haraminada - Young Noble's Slap
10 Tropical Jungle 2 - Golden Axe III - Ride the Whirlwind
11 Kingdom Valley 1 - Dyna Bros 2 - Diamonds on Home Planet
12 Kingdom Valley 2 - Light Crusader - Grave Matters
    13 Aquatic Base 1 - Shadow Dancer - Stage 3-2, 5-1
    14 Aquatic Base 2 - Shinobi 3 - Idaten
15 Eggman Fight - Golden Axe II - Boss Theme 1
    16 Character Fight - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Stage 2 (Part 1)
17 Monster Fight - Michael Jackson's Moonwalker - Mr. Big
18 Bonus Stage - Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon - Stage 5 Boss
19 Special Stage - Mega Man: The Wily Wars - Wily Tower Stage 4
1A Emerald - Sonic and Knuckles - Emerald
    1B Invincibility - Shinobi 3 Earlier Prototype - ???
1C Stage Clear - Sonic and Knuckles - Stage Clear
1D Stage Results - Phantasy Star 4 - Cybernetic Carnival
1E Game Over - Columns III - The End
    1F Continue - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Continue
    20 End of the World - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Stage 3, 7
    21 Final Boss Part 1 - Shinobi 3 - Shadow Master
22 Final Boss Part 2 - Golden Axe II - Boss Theme 2
    23 Sonic Credits - Shinobi 3 Earlier Prototype - The End (w/ Sakura's instruments)
    24 Shadow Credits - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Staff Roll
25 Silver Credits - Phantasy Star 4 - Staff Roll
26 Final Credits - Shadow Squadron - Staff Roll
    2B Extra Life - Sonic 3 - Extra Life
    33-DF Sound Effects

The file attached is CollinAB's Sonic 2 Ultra with this soundtrack replacing the music. If there are any songs that could be improved upon or are used in any other hacks, please let me know.

Edit: I forgot to add the ending theme to the hack so I removed it from the list. It will still be in Sonic Next Genesis.

Why not just do SMPS ports of Sonic '06 music?

    Many reasons:
    • There are barely any midi files for Sonic '06. IIRC, all I can find are all of Wave Ocean and Crisis City's songs, the first boss theme, an event theme, and the all main themes except for "My Destiny."
    • Porting music doesn't take as much effort and gives better results.
    • Not many other hacks use ported music which can allows my hack to be more unique.
    • I really enjoy a lot of the music from the games that I can port songs from.
    • A lot of these tracks are pretty obscure and a hack can be more memorable when it introduces you to an awesome piece of music you've never heard before. Just look at the comments sections of songs that were used in Megamix, Hyperdrive, or Advanced Edit.
    • I like introducing myself to new pieces of music.
    • I get to choose which songs I can use and if I have trouble porting a song, I can choose a different song.
Edit: The Crisis City port is nice but it's really hard to capture the feeling of the original because orchestra hits can't really be produced by the Genesis.

I was going to do Orchestra hits in PCM if I ever remake the port.

Also I mean at the very least a soundtrack option for the actual soundtrack from the source material.

I was thinking of adding the option to use PCM samples for the soundtrack but adding that would be a lot of work. I would have to make it loop, make it pause when the screen pauses, and add checks to each thing that changes the music. Also, I'm using Sonic 3's driver so I have to figure out how I can add more PCM samples. Plus there is the issue of file size and the fact that sound effects take up a ton of music slots. Maybe I could add a new sound bank. That would make it so I don't have to add checks and it would free up music slots but I don't know where to begin with adding it...

The point is that adding a separate soundtrack option would require a lot of work and isn't something I'm bothering with right now. There is so much more to work on with my hack and so I'm fine just having these song ports. I would actually prefer listening to them than crummy PCM audio, anyway.

Just to be sure, do you know that the soundtrack I posted consists of the actual songs copied from their original games to my hack with small alterations rather than midi files converted into SMPS? Your first post seemed to suggest that you didn't.

When I said pcm orch hits I meant just adding a new sample.

Also yes I know they are direct ports from other games.

I know you meant orchestra hits as PCM samples. I was just explaining that, I was thinking of using using entire songs as PCM samples instead of having to create midis and convert them to SMPS.

I've created this mini hack. It's called Sonic 1: Springjump Challenge.
This hack just replaces the regular jump animation with the spring animation. But can it be used to kill badniks? NO.
There still is a way to do a "regular" jump. You'll have to roll and jump. But I wouldn't recommend you to do that, since doing so won't let you change your jump direction. This will turn the GHZ boss (and maybe even the other bosses) into hell itself.
Now, it's time to give you the download link.

In my opinion it would be neat if you figured out how to merge the difficulties and all the challenge hacks you made into one, like S3K challenges. Would made a more full hack.

Erm... please keep in mind that the no spin challenge hack was made by me and VeryCoolGiova's hack is basically just the same thing as the no spin challenge but the only real difference is that you can roll. making this an easier version of my "No Spin Challenge" hack. if you can call it that.

Since your hack is entering the contest this year, let me count on the points regarding how wrong they are.
That, I'd argue, might be a point for making not making the whole soundtrack Sonic'06-only. However, you could easily just ask someone to help with music. I know that at least LordXernom is always willing to contribute music-wise.
Not necesarily. The songs that do take little effort to port are very often very overused in Sonic hacks. Having a few ported songs is fine, even if some of those songs still are overused (heck, even I mix ported songs with MIDI conversions), but only relying in ported music wont get you anywhere.
Plus, as long as a MIDI of the song exist, you can make it sound good. You just need to try. I suggest downloading the MegaDrive MIDI Driver on top of Sekaiju so you can edit MIDIs super easily and also have a preview of how it would sound ingame without constantly putting the song into the ROM and then test it
Now that's factually wrong. Thanks to SMPSConv, many hacks use ported music. See above.
That might be a good point, but what you're trying to create is a Sonic 1 hack version of Sonic'06, and so far, the only way I could recognize Wave Ocean was thanks to the mach speed section and the Inlet theme that plays during the Mach Speed section. Because otherwise, your Wave Ocean looks nothing like the actual Wave Ocean, but more like a recolored Emerald Hill Zone. It would be as easy as to use the beach tileset from the first zone of Sonic Advance 1, especially since there are hacks that prove that they can have Sonic Advance tilesets. But seriously, without the zones names, I'm only able to recognize Wave Ocean, Dusty Desert and Crisis City, and in the case of Wave Ocean and Crisis City, I was only able to recognize them thanks to their music. Now they wont even have that anymore...
And once again, this is you taking the easy way out. I might be wrong, but where I come from, taking the easy way out is not the right way and one should instead try to learn instead of being all like "Oh no, I can't use this. Guess I use that instead". Just like with only relying in ported music, trying to escape the problem instead of trying to fix the problem wont get you anywhere.
Actually, Orchestra Hits can be produced by the Genesis...through the DAC channel. And besides, you don't need orchestra hits in order to capture the feeling of the original. Just make the song sound, you know, good, and that's it.

Sorry if I sounded harsh (because I did not wanted to sound harsh), but as someone who was following your project ever since the release of the SHC 2015 demo, I really had to let out my opinion on those matters.
