So here I am in a christmas spirit, releasing my first version of a christmas themed hack on the forums. Some of you may have already seen this hack on redhotsonic's live stream as I wanted him to try it out before releasing it here on the forums but anyway here is the mini hack its self.

Mini hack title: Sonic 1 JW Christmas Mini Hack:
    Download: www.mediafire.com/file/k79kh14fsc2dtcd/S1JWChristmasMiniHack_%282016-V1%29.bin
    Gameplay Video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhtWY19Aq30

Also a special thanks to hypersonic 16 (Youtube user\SSRG User - (Currently in Limbo)) for helping me make this hack possible.

Edit: yes I am aware that sonic's hat disappears when he is in his spring animation and when he does the end pose on ending cutscene.

I'm releasing this layout hack. It's a layout hack of Sonic 1 made on a Github disassembly and built on a ReadySonic disassembly.
I've enabled the Spin Dash, the Ring counter on the special stages and every other minor fix, trying to give a more Sonic 1-ish feeling rather than a ReadySonic-ish feeling.
Layouts were edited with SonED2, ASM was edited with ConTEXT (all what I made in ASM is so minor that I won't even mention it), and hex code was edited with HxD.
Please do know that only GHZ 1 and 2 are playable, and only GHZ 1 can be considered finished; GHZ 2 uses the same length and spawn point as the original (you will spawn in the air), and GHZ 3 is empty.
Please download and give me a feedback about the layout so far. It would make me happy. Download link at the end of the thread.

Just sat for about 15 minutes and made a small collection of AutoDemo ROMs, each edited to be playable, and contain the different levels.
As of posting, these are untested, but getting there now.
Good news, they work! Have fun. (I recommend having a [Reset] HotKey at the ready.)
    >This< also includes the original ROM, and further so, credit to The Cutting Room Floor for the addresses used.

Sonic Nightmare Simulator Remake just got uploaded on Steam. However it's still in development. But I wanted to give a taste test.

I will however not post a download link so you have to play through the Steam Workshop or grab the rom in the files.

So I just decided to post Sonic Nightmare Sim Remake beta. However I just did this for feedback and I do not want anyone to post it to Youtube.

So... This hack was my entry to the Scrap Brain mini contest from the last year. Since I barely finished it in time (I did it in only 6 hours), I wasn't able to send the hack in time. And no one else besides me played it, so, I never get any feedback about this thing.

Here is my laziest project ever. This is called "Sonic 1 - No hit edition".
This hack aims to give players one of those "No hit" challenges without changing the main gameplay.
The name should be saying everything, but let me explain all the changes made:

    • Rings don't work.
    • Monitors don't work (Except for the Speed Shoes).
    • Due to the lack of rings, Special Stages can be accessed without collecting any.
    • You have only 1 life.
This is a 100% ASM hack made in 10 minutes using the Sonic 1 GitHub disassembly and ConTEXT. Download at the end of the post.

You are free to use this hack to make videos on YouTube.

If you can make or have made an even lazier project, I'm going to give you a cookie. Also: Original hack do not steal.

This is a GHZ Boss. And just to celebrate my birthday I will show progress in a playable manner.
This one however is the one that is OK for youtube atm. However GHZ Boss is the only change.

Idk if I am allowed to release this here, but this is a non-Sonic hack I have gotten done some time ago, and the demo was never properly released, so I took an entire night to sort of... Patch up and fix a few things. So without further ado... ALEX KIDD IN MARIO WORLD: WORLD 1!! It's legit the most original hack idea ever, that nobody else has ever attempted certainly. I was originally gonna put in the best levels of the OG Super Mario Bros., but due to difficulties in the process, I will likely do world by world, kinda like LD was... Episodic. Future hopes for the hack:

    > Learn how to properly redraw enemies, even add extra tiles. Boulders become Goombas, Scorpions become Koopa Troopas, Frogs become Pirahna Plants, and those fish become Cheep Cheeps, and the big bad fish become Bloopers.
    > Find a way to make it so all levels can have the max 3 additional tilesets, since most levels seem to have a predetermined amount.
    > Find out how to make sprites stop misaligning

Special thanks to JetStar1997 for making the overworld theme. Without him, the Alex Kidd in Mario World project would have died.

You know, it looks rather fun, but it could be better if you fixed speed cap...

Here's a small experimental hack that tests out the concept\idea of sonic having an energy meter that ticks down from 100 to 0 over time and as it ticks down to 0, sonic progressively loses his ability to run really fast as his top speed drops each time the energy meter ticks down by 1. (Basically simulating sonic getting tired and worn out)

However this idea alone wouldn't work very well, since it would make pretty much all of the levels unbeatable. so to make it possible to beat, i have added a few gimmicks that allow for the energy meter to be re-filled. (E.g getting a 10 rings monitor will add 10 points back on the energy meter and getting invincibility will slowly re-fill the meter by 1 point over the time that it is active.)

    Extra Information (hidden in spoiler):
when you load up the game will notice that the level select is enabled by default to allow you to play any level you wish from the get go. however this will only allow you to play the levels in "single level gameplay mode", which means that the game will go back to the sega screen after completing one level. if you wish to play through the entire game without constantly going back to the level select, then select the "play all levels" option at the bottom of level select menu screen.

You will also notice that sound test is replaced with "e meter setting". this allows you to change the settings of the energy meter by altering how the energy meter works in game. However this mainly acts as a difficultly setting, as the difficultly is effected when this setting is changed. With that said, if your up for a challenge, try beating the game with this set to "03". i'm sure you'll have quite a frustrating time especially when you get to labyrinth zone.

Hack Title: Sonic 1: Energy Meter

Please note: this is an experimental hack. it's main purpose is to test out an idea. I have no intention to use this idea in future hacks.

Please feel free to share your opinions on the idea. if you have any suggestions on how I could use this idea in future hacks, then feel free share your suggestions as well.

Too easy, even at 03. The added invincibility and ring monitors are just too frequent, and the extra lives break it even further.

Personally I'd scrap the "regain energy with invincibility" and "reset energy with extra lives" mechanics, and change it so you don't lose energy while rolling (or just lose at the rest energy level).

It's an interesting concept, certainly made it a bit more exciting playing Sonic 1 again.

I agree with what DigitalDuck said earlier. The challenge is too easy. You have been way too kind in my opinion. Anyways, it was fun to play. However the Final Zone boss was quite disappointing. I expected some kind of "Time Attack" where hitting Robotnik increases your energy and you have to hit him before your energy drops to 0, but...
Anyways, what I liked most were the minimal changes to the music, the new credits and the fact that you fixed the bug that gives control to Sonic after he finishes a level. It's the first time I see this in a Sonic 1 hack.
Also, one question: Did you remove the LZ 1 shortcut? Because it did not spawn. That caused me a death!

That is quite the idea you have there!! Personally, I would take out the idea of regaining health from Ring Monitors, and have it be where collecting rings restores your life points, one ring being one point. Getting hit would cause you to lose a large chunk of health as well.

This gives you more of a sense of urgency through levels, forcing you to have to frantically grab rings to stay alive.

You know, GenesisDoes should take a look at this hack, in case he desires putting Minutes/Socket as a secondary character in Socket the Hedgeduck hack.
