Trust me you don't want it darker and it actually isn't as bad on the eyes as you may think but ill play that act later today and see if I can tell what your driving at. Wait the whole act darker or the FG? The song that plays is PPZ act 1 music which goes together with the palette and act quite nicely. If I had art skills I could make it fit even better.

You're half right, it's the yellow in the background, it's too pale. If it was darkened, it'd be easier on my eyes too. The FG will be fine after this change.

I can see where you went with the pale BG, a faded tone can give a sense of distance if applied correctly. It could work well providing you use complimentary FG colours.

Okay, so i've edited the SOZ palette, and here's the new version:

Is this one better? If I still need to improve it, tell me.

Still too much blue, damnit. The thing looks fucking MONOCHROMATIC if you're only using blue, and monochromatic is the last thing you want for a palette. Try putting in some purple or red.

I guess I'll just restart, since I really don't know how to make good night palettes.

I always made good Sunset/Day palettes, but that was actually my first attempt on making a night palette.

Thanks for your feedback trough, i'll do my best next time.

edit: Here's an example of one of my palettes:

    EDIT2: Fixed grammar

The Background looks much better than your previous attempt. But, still a lot of blue.  I think you are starting to head in the right direction.

    EDIT: Can't seem to spell..

Sorry, I guess what Sonic's standing on would be the midground?

Anyway, the midground's colour could be more complimentary to the background. What I mean by this is that the midground doesn't really do anything to pop out within the eye of the beholder, as the two areas relate closely. It's not a matter of contrast (the contrast is quite nice actually). It's more of a matter of colour selection. However if the temperature of your level exceeds 105 °F you're doing a good job as it is. :p

@Joenick69: The MTZ's palettes need some work, but that ARZ palette is actually awesome.

    -- Also --

That's not the reason why I post here, I also have something to show off:

Sorry I couldn't resist to post this awesome video

P.S: The TTZ music that I requested is used in act 2.

Having the mixture of purple and blue blocks there really improves Labyrinth Zone, it's less bland now, nice work!

Nice touch with the purple blocks! Though the layout though doesn't contain much to reward the player with taking the high route. In fact you can easily access this route from the very beginning of the act and remain there without any major obstacle potentially causing a descent into the labyrinth.

I am very proud to say that I have just added 64 color palette generation to Retro Graphics Toolkit and a new and improved shadow highlight tile choicer which tries to pick if a tile should be shadowed or not based on how it looks compared to the original tile and not just the brightness of the tile. There is still some stuff that I need to do before I push this to my github repository https://github.com/ComputerNerd/Retro-Graphics-Toolkit but it will be up soon. The way this works is simple: Get the average hue of each tile divide the hue by four and assign which palette row to use based on that. Also is anyone using Retro Graphics Toolkit? Why or why not? Any suggestions or bugs to report?

This is something I am interested in, have you considered setting it up to use two planes, each one with a different palette line?

You could extend the number of colours to use by 0x20 (32).
