And now, after 3 years of being a Trialist. Here is my final Trialist post...

I thought I might show off a level I am currently working on in the Master System version of Sonic 2...

... I call it "Subcon Zone".

    Does it look familiar?

Again awesome work Baka! I wish my art skills were better, but eh perhaps we'll work together on a Sonic 2 SMS hack one day who knows? :p

Mario, huh? Are all the stages Mario based? Sounds interesting!

Well, the name of the hack is Sonic in Subcon, so most of the levels would have Super Mario Bros 2./Doki Doki Panic graphics.

I was thinking of making the hack function like a mix between a Sonic game and Super Mario Bros 2. Of course I'll need to learn a bit more about Z80, and I'll probably need some help from other people trying to code what I plan to have in the game.

That's great Baka! The art works together so well like a reverse somari. Cool concept

I am working on adding import sprite sheet functionality to my project Retro Graphics Toolkit. The way this works is to first determine weather the sprite sheet uses alpha transparency or a mask color is used and what mask color to use. If alpha transparency is detected you still have the option to use a mask color. To find the mask three or one histogram(s) depending on bytes per pixel is constructed and for each pixel entry 0-255 is incremented and the highest value is the mask color. This algorithm is fast and uses little ram.

After that rectangles are constructed around what is not the mask color. These rectangles are then merged to form a sprite. The algorithm works very well in identifying sprites only occasionally missing some dust that is not attached. [IMG]

Once complete you can right click on the sprite to remove it, left click on a removed sprite to re-add it and drag the rectangles to resize what is selected. After that overlapping rectangles will be merged in order to fix non connected dust or sprites that are not connected but should be one sprite group anyways. On the plus side I won't just leave it at this stage and just add the text (incomplete) to the menu entry, I will finish it. However already all sprites do import well using minimal sprites. I believe SonMapEd just creates 1x1 tile sprites.

This is wonderful. I remember an ancient minecraft texture pack editor that had this feature, and it made my life so much easier :3

Even if I never work with sprites, those features sound really useful and interesting, great work!

Time for an update. I'm now working on the MegaMan portion of my hack! I have a basic weapon done for Sonic and a basic level and music. Also, I have the old SSRG splash screen and the SGD splash screen ported as well and a level select.

Great job to both MrCat and (especially) Ralakimus! Sonic shooting bullets reminds me of MarkeyJester's "The Naked Hedgehog" hack. And MrCat, I love hacks with art changes! I do have a tiny nitpick though. The tree leaves look lopsided. This could be fixed by making them lean towards the right a bit more, OR have the branch lean, too. Great job with the rest though!

EDIT: Also, importing sprite sheets rock! Great job Sonic Master!

Oh my. I also noticed you had a Modern Sonic life icon. Are you replacing Classic Sonic?
