No, I think that it is the type of post that deserves a downvote. I'm sorry.

Posting two minihacks, one made with ESEII, and another using two overused guides, is just... sad.

To give credit where credit is due, when I joined the scene I also made a simple all-the-guides in Sonic 1 hack, and I was unironically proud too (never released it though). You would think that common sense is universal, but the Spin Dash tutorial isn't as simple to follow as one might think when you're bloody new to the scene. Once I finally understood that guide I had the urge to share it with the world, too, and I think that's exactly what went through Sonic Burst's head as well.

Doesn't stop the end result from being as far away from originality as possible, I'm afraid.

I just spent the last month or so finding and porting songs for my Sonic hack's soundtrack using Valley Bell's SMPS rips to get songs and use information on coordination flags, Flamewing's SMPS2ASM converter and driver to optimize the songs for Sonic 3's driver, and CollinAB's Sonic 2 Ultra disassembly to compile it together in. Right now, I'm in the process of extracting the songs to use in my Sonic 1 hack which has Sonic 3's driver installed. Anyway, here is the Sonic 2 ROM I used that has all the music I added in it. I made sure that every songs has not been previously used in another Sonic hack (mainly Metal Sonic Hyperdrive, Sonic 2 Advanced Edit, and Sonic Megamix). Also, songs ported from The Hybrid Front have their volume screwed up due to the lack of a coordination flag that sets the volume (I can't figure out how I can get S3's $E4 flag to work right) and songs ported from 32x games have most if not all DAC removed due to the lack of PWM channels.

    Here are the songs used:
    1 - Boss - Arrow Flash - Boss
    2 - Bonus Stage - The Hybrid Front - Pilot Set-Up
3 - Special Stage - The Hybrid Front - History Introduction
4 - Title Screen - ATP Tour Championship Tennis - Title Screen
5 - Game Over - Sonic and Knuckles - Game Over
    6 - Continue - Arrow Flash - Continue
7 - Stage Clear - Sonic and Knuckles - Stage Clear
8 - Extra Life - Sonic and Knuckles - Extra Life
    9 - Emerald - Sonic and Knuckles - Emerald
A - Invincibility - ATP Tour Championship Tennis - Congratulations!
    B - Menu - ATP Tour Championship Tennis - Menu 3
    C - Drowning - Sonic and Knuckles - Drowning
    D - Ending - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - The End
    E - GHZ 1 - Yu Yu Hakusho Gaiden - Track 2
    F - GHZ 2 - Cosmic Carnage - Cyclic's Stage (Fully Armored)
    10 - MZ 1 - Cosmic Carnage - Narut0's Stage
    11 - MZ 2 - Fatal Fury 2 - Japan Stage II
    12 - SYZ 1 - Cosmic Carnage - Yug's Stage
    13 - SYZ 2 - Gunstar Heroes - Empire
14 - LZ 1 - Yu Yu Hakusho: Makyo Toitsusen - Cave Stage
    15 - LZ 2 - Cosmic Carnage - Talmac's Stage
    16 - SLZ 1 - Dyna Bros 2 - Diamonds on Home Planet
    17 - SLZ 2 - ATP Tour Championship Tennis - 04
    18 - SBZ 1 - Fatal Fury 2 - The Sunset Sky
    19 - SBZ 2 - The Hybrid Front - Rebellion 2
    1A - Final Boss - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Final Boss
1B - Sonic Credits - Light Crusader - The Finale
1C - Silver Credits - Gunstar Heroes - Heroes: Reprise for Yellow
    1D - Shadow Credits - Zaxxon's Motherbase 2000 - Staff Roll

Edit: Damn it Megamix! It turns out the song I used for my bonus stage is City Outskirts' boss music.

Sounds good! Though I do recognise some of the songs used in other Sonic hacks like MZ2's theme was used in Sonic Harder Levels and SBZ2's theme sounds very similar to City Outskirts Zone Act 3 from Megamix. Still, they are some brilliant songs and they are pretty fitting for their purpose! :)

You were right about MZ2. SBZ2 on the other hand uses the Rebellion Fight 2 music while Megamix uses the Rebellion Fight 1 music. I don't think I'll change MZ2 because Harder Levels already has so many songs and multiple playlists that I'm surprised anyone has noticed.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    Hello everyone.

I think it's time to show you my mini-hack: Sonic - New Year's Edition (2015-2016).

    Changes:

    + Winter palette
+ Changed the structure of several levels (you know what)
    + Changed the music
    + Some sprites

Levels, remaining unchanged, are not included in the kit.

Not a bad hack, actually - I did run into some bugs, but nothing major.

The third act of GHZ had a bit of a rather... bad obstacle. Simply eggman monitors. It doesn't really look good and it kind of says 'don't go fast, you'll die in half a second from falling on an eggman monitor.' That's exactly WHAT shouldn't happen in a Sonic game/hack. Couldn't be bothered to play after that.

Palette is a bit odd in places, too.

I actually don't mind the Eggman monitor challenge. What I do mind is this:

1 and 3: Bottomless pits in a first zone are one of the biggest no-no's in Sonic hacking. Please remove them
2: The positioning of the spikes presents a big problem in that the player can get hurt from the bottom. It has mostly the same effect of putting the spikes in the air.
4: This is a dick move boss. One wrong move can result in losing all your rings or dying. However, I do like what you've done with the chunk. Simple but effective.

EDIT: Oh yeah, this is all in Act 3

Hello :D I wanted to show you a only-layout first act demo of Sonic 1: South Island (yes, it's the final name, since it's playing on South Island. If you have a other name, let me know)
Since it's only one act, it doesn't deserve a own thread. So, i posted it here.

    Things changed at now:
    Custom music for Green Hill
    One changed act (GHZ 1)
I also changed the boss, but it's still in the alpha phase, but if you wan't to have a look on it, then go ahead. (Only the boss battle arena layouts are changed)

    EDIT: Forgot download link:

    Edit EDIT: Credits:
-LordXernom for composing and Porting the music (there's new music in every zone! Go and check it out if you don't have done it before! Marble and Spring Yard are having Custom music!)
-CamManS5 for Porting Metallic Madness Bad Future (JP) for Scrap Brain
-CaveQuest for porting the new Credits music, a SMPS variant of "Zombies on your Lawn" from Plants vs. Zombies.

Needs more work. And by more I mean more wall placements.

It is by no means the worst I've seen. In fact, one positive note I can throw, is that there are plenty of diverting paths, leaves it open for a bit of exploration. I had to play it twice to see it all, that's a pretty good thing~

Of course, object placement could have been a little better, certain walls were missing making it possible to accidentally jump through and fall to your death. I ran into a bottomless pit at the beginning because I couldn't see it.

I did notice the music, but I have to be honest with you, it didn't seem like much to me, sorry.

I'm quite fond of the level layout, but I agree with the rest of the people here - you need to place some walls here and there so that we don't unexpectedly fall into a void. Aside from that, for a beginner, I've got to say you are not bad at all. Keep it up.

MarkeyJester: It's originally called "Neo Mountain Act 3". But ok. I am going to ask LordXernom if i can get a new green hill zone music. I even want it.
AbyssalLeopard: Thanks for feedback Abyssal. However, like i said, it's only the first version and more could change :D

Level layout is rather odd to me, plus the music is rather unfitting.
Also, don't just move objects out of the way, delete them.

...also, hasn't the name south island been used before?
