Yeah, so once again I've restarted this hack of Sonic 2, and this time I hope to keep it in an organised state. For those who have never played the older versions, I'll give you the quick rundown on what was involved:

    Time Travel

    Multiple Characters

    S3K style act transitions

New zones (art, layouts, palettes etc)

    Save Game feature

New character moves (Water running, speed boosting, insta-shield etc)

    New object art

    New objects

    Day/Night cycles

Other stuff which has currently slipped my mind

The new version will include the above mentioned features, along with a few more which I'm not going to mention just yet.

The following screenshots are of the old version, but most of the new version will be based on past work made on that version, so I might as well post them here to give some kind of a background to the project.

    Green Hill Zone Past

    Green Hill Zone Present

    Green Hill Zone Good Future

    Green Hill Zone Bad Future

    Great Gate Zone Present

The following screenshots are of the current build, which was only restarted yesterday. So far, all I've done is create a new title screen, insert the Sonic 1 sound driver, add Tails' flying ability and Knuckles, and alter a few more various bits of art. Screens are below:

    New Title Screen

    Tails Flying

    Knuckles

Any suggestions for improvement based on the screens shown are more than welcome.

SMTP - Tails' flying and Knuckles code, plus bugfixes

Hoohaz - Original Great Gate design (from Sonic Unity fangame)

Anyone else I've missed who feels they should have been included, feel free to let me know.

aaaah you asswipe, I was gonna put WL's GHZ bad future in my hack when I got around to doing it, lol. Reminds me of an airport.

Otherwise, I'm glad this hack has restarted. Keep up the good work!

Quick question about the "LINK" HUD item. What exact is it and what does it count for?

Nevertheless, Project Chaos looks amazing. The Sonic palette on the Title Screen could use a quick tweaking if possible, but brings good Sonic CD memories. Have you ever considered renaming it to "Sonic Megamix 2" by any chance, or will this remain solely your project?

    Thank you!

Anybody who's played Nights on Saturn would already have a rough idea of what that is, but for those who haven't, I'll explain. Basically, for every ring collected, enemy destroyed or monitor broken, the counter would increase by 1. When the counter is a value greater than 0, a hidden timer of 2 seconds will count down. Increasing the counter again during this 2 seconds will reset the hidden timer to 2 seconds, increase the LINK counter, and the process would repeat. The idea is to rack up the biggest link you can by chaining together ring collection, enemy destruction and monitor destruction. When that 2 second timer finally depletes because you couldn't continue the link, the current LINK counter value will be taken, multiplied by 100, and multiplied again by a certain value depending on how high you got the link. I'll give a quick example:

    1 - 9 link = x1

    10 - 19 link = x2

    20 - 29 link = x3

    30 - 39 link = x4

    40 - 49 link = x5

Based on that table, if I got a chain of 25, the additional score would be worked out as (25x100)x3, giving you a 7,500 bonus to your score. The counter resets after the chain is complete. Combining this with the ranking system I intend to implement, this would allow for a more challenging way to play the game, trying to rack up the highest score you can to achieve all of the best ranks. Basically, it's there for replay value.

This project always was, and will remain, a solo effort. Of course, I may need help off certain people along the way for various things, but it's not going to be a group project where all the work is shared out. I will be taking on the vast majority of the work myself.

Erm, Project Chaos has been Stephen's project for years, and it will remain that way. I don't even know if I can be arsed to do a Sonic 2 Megamix anyway, to be honest (though I'd certainly like to explore the possibility at some point).

Good work, Stephen! I love the new title screen, but for some reason I think theres a little too much blue in it. Can't wait to see the cutscenes you might have in the game. :( From what I've seen, it barely feels like Sonic 2!

Looking good, Stephen, but are there supposed to be Badniks in the Good Future?
