The story behind the hack's production...(if you aren't interested in it or are very familiar with it, then skip the following paragraph)

Once upon a message board, a user by the name of SOTI was creating a hack known as S2Epsilon. He had another user creating his palettes for him. Upon seeing some of these crappy palettes on the former Sonic Retro forums, I showed SOTI some previous palette work that I had done on a separate Sonic 2 ROM and before I knew it, I was working along side him. To cut to the chase, as time passed by, it became harder to keep in contact with SOTI and so I decided to give up working with him, taking my palettes with me. Seeking advice in the Sonic Retro forums, few of the other users convinced me to go on and create my own hack. Ever since I've split my work from SOTI's, I've been able to do more to this hack than I could before.

    Sonic Boom 2

Sonic Boom 2 is a hack in the making and neither the first release nor the final version of it will be like any bullshit hack you'd find by most newbies. Beside the fact that I myself am a newbie, I take hacking seriously and try my best to do everything on my own, and I'm even willing to take advice from people who know their way around the block.

    Features in Progress

    • Palette Renovation
    • Modified Art
    • New Layouts
    Features to be Implemented

    • New Music
    • Additional Moves
    • (Possible) More Characters
There is still plenty for me to learn about hacking so some features I have planned may not be implemented for a while. I welcome all comments, whether they be of approval or constructive criticism.

(I'll post credits when I release a demo...)

Not bad at all, although I do not like the monitors, it doesn't look right. The item looks too big.

I don't know how many times I've said this to you but you are a pro! The art you have implemented beats what I end up doing, going to the SCAA. You have managed to get everything good. Those emerald Starposts, very good. I don't know how to implement that SEGA logo so I can't help you there but keep on going with the good work & you'll beat every other Sonic 2 hack in existance!

    Those palletes are just brilliant.

Especially the Hill Top zone, but I agree with RHS, that monitor looks slightly weird.

I love the life icons though.

Just wanted to try something different...I'm tired of seeing the same exact thing over and over again, and I don't want to download art from the SCAA.

The ring monitor looks pretty good to me.

The only problem I see is that the grass palette on Hill Top looks a lot like the HTz grass in The Lost Land 2.

Last time I checked, LL2's grass was yellow, mine is a mix of yellow-green and green.

Yeah, it's different, I just checked. It looks pretty similar though.

Colors are going to be similar considering how constricting the Genesis's color palette is. I actually like the monitors they are different and do the job nicely.

    Minor Update...

Modified Title Screen, just so it reads the name of this hack right.

Well first of all, I want to wish everybody a Happy Halloween!

And by stopping at this thread, you're in for a treat...after finally getting around to continue working on it, I've completed a demo for all of you to enjoy. So without further hesitation, here's the demo...

    Sonic Boom 2 v1.0

And since it's one of my favorite holidays, I've decided to include a bonus ROM to go with my first release...the "Sonic Boom 2" Beta ROM (no, not a modified Sonic 2 Beta ROM). This ROM is a modified version of the Lost Levels Patch. Also included in this ROM are the new palettes for the lost levels, some modified layouts, and either some old ideas or future plans for my main hack.

    SB2 Bonus ROM 1

    Sonic Boom 2 Credits

    SonEd2: Stealth

    SonMapEd: Xenowhirl

    S2Disassembly: Xenowhirl

    Project Leader: Sonic Boom

    SB2 Bonus ROM 1 Credits

    SonEd: Stealth

    SonMapEd: Xenowhirl

    S2Disassembly: Nemesis

    Modified L.L. Patch: SOTI

    Original L.L. Patch: Esrael

    ChaoSax-Pal: Magus, Saxman

    Sonic Tweaker: drx

    Project Leader: Sonic Boom

    Special Thanks

    • Stealth
    • Xenowhirl
    • Tweaker
    • SOTI
    • You, the player...

I've only played EHZ1 and a bit of EHZ2, but so far I liked it. However, there's a trap in EHZ2, that is, imo, somewhat cheap, and frankly, it's pretty annoying. Specifically, this:

Yeah, I hadn't noticed that 'til after I uploaded the demo...I'll edit that and upload it later. For now, I can only suggest that you hold down if going really fast or after spindashing...

One of the best Sonic 2 hacks there is & the bonus ROM's palletes are good, Hidden Palace got some new layout, Winter Hill still had the old Epsilon layout & Death Egg (act 3) had a good loop to go through, shame it wasn't in the final version. Also:
