I guess I should explain the whole missing Act 2 thing, since I have seen confusion about this come up a few times.

Technically, the Hubs are the Act 2's in the actual disassembly code. At first, the hub used the Act 2 Title Card, but having no Act label seemed more appropriate, so I removed it. However, if you have found any of the secret unlockable acts yet, you'll notice that I re-used the Act 2 title card there. I guess I intentionally left it that way as sort of an underhanded way to induce exploration in the hub.

So, to access the secret acts, you must fully restore both acts and the hub (for the hub restore to actually save, you have to leave and come back to it either through an act or another zone), then look around the hub and find the now activated Giant Ring. Since it seems like no one has found any of them, here are the locations:

Green Hill - In the underground area to the right where the Music Monitor is.

Marble - In the underground area all the way to the right, through the secret tunnel (past the C Monitor room).

Spring Yard - At the end of the bottom path to the right of the Act 3 entrance, in the same room as the C monitor.

    New Update!

I've pinpointed the source of the 'Not Hyper Sonic' glitch from before, and fixed it. So I decided to release an update with the fixed transformation, and a few other minor fixes/edits as well.

    Download

    Also,

Thanks for making these; its cool seeing different ways to navigate the stages! Have you ever thought of doing any runs of any other stages?

    Sorry for the late response.

Sorry, I've had a few and cannot be bothered to read the whole topic (quickly skimmed it), but why did Sonic turn Super all of a sudden?

After getting every emerald, this transformation is available if you have completed the hub in any given zone, and passed its respective acts (not counting the secret acts). Requires 30 rings, and restores all colors and music in the act. This was actually in the contest version, but I never actually showed it in any form until now.

Ah I see, nice transformation. I do like this hack and how it's getting along. One of my favourites.

I've done Green Hill Zone Any% (Act 1 - 1 restore, Act 3 - 1 restore, then ending at the Marble Zone spring), which was 2:56 in real time, and needs improving. I also thought I had done a fully restored GHZ (Act 1, 3, Hub and Secret all restored), but I can't find anything in my recordings.

Update: I've now routed all of GHZ, Marble Zone, and Spring Yard Zone (including GHZ and Marble Zone's Secret stages), and I've just finished Final Zone (looks great btw)

Mistake fixed, lol (it's is hilarious that it went unnoticed for so long!)

Did you unlock the secret second act of Final Zone yet?

Anyway, I'm considering creating either a new means of accessing the Special Stages, or a new one entirely (the Sonic 1 Special Stages are starting to feel stale to me, especially in B&W). What do you guys think?

EDIT: Also, I'm considering adding a 'Classic Mode' which would run through the game level-to-level, and allowing retained progress in the "adventure" mode stages. Since this would probably be a huge undertaking on my part, I'm curious of others' opinions on this.

How mature. Why did you even point it out?

There's a secret act? I've got more to do! And a new Special Stage and Classic Mode would be cool, if it's not too much to work on.

Also, I found this probably already-known bug that happened when I scrolled the ending a little then went back to the right side (if you go off-screen without scrolling, it restarts that part as if you just died). I should also note that I'm too lazy to unzip 4.3, so this is 4.2.

Once you %100 every normal stage (not including the Secret Stages) and hubs, and collect every Chaos Emerald, beat the Final Zone boss again.

    EDIT:

    Fixed, thanks for reporting.

(this is mistake in post #1)How mature. Why did you even point it out? There's nothing wrong about pointing out a mistake; in fact, quite the opposite, in my opinion. Errors and mistakes should always be reported, and fixed when possible. Sure there are better and worse ways to do that (in a case like this, a Private Message would have probably been enough), but the Sonic community has been known to make jokes about "pingas" for months, so since this is basically the same concept, I'd say everything is good.

I am willing, however, to trash the 3 or 4 Off-Topic posts if TheInvisibleSun asks me to do so.

In the latest version (v1.3), while playing GHZ Act 3, some of the Monitors started acting weird. For one, the 1-Up near the end (where you need to activate a switch of the upper ledge to bring up a platform to get to it) will sometimes reappear after it's broken, and then when you get back to it the monitor either reverts back to being a broken monitor or there's nothing there.

Also, for a while now I couldn't find the Music monitor for GHZ Act 3 so I gave up and went back to that stage, but then it was right where I thought it was.

And another monitor-related issue is that sometimes the Shield hidden in one of the palm trees is not there and sometimes it is.

And are enemies supposed to respawn sometimes?

ICYW, I'm using PicoDrive on the PSP, version 1.51.

Hmm, there must be an off flag somewhere. I'll check it out later today.

EDIT: Yup,one of the monitors 'Remember State' flags were off, and I assume that this caused the others to go haywire. (Though I couldn't replicate the glitch at all)

Concerning the respawning enemies, there are some that intentionally do that, like some of the bats in Marble Zone. Which enemies are you referring to?

I'm referring to Crabmeats and Buzz Bombers, and I only remember this in GHZ Act 3.

So I finally got round to an Any% run, and I managed to get 12:34 after 8 or 9 attempts. I'm planning to go back to it as more levels get added.

I also got 29 seconds Game-Time on GHZ Act 1, and I tried out the secret Final Zone act. It's incredible.

Again, thanks for making these speed-run videos! I honestly didn't think there was much a speed-running element to this project (I even almost removed the time entirely, in favor of a monitor counter). I noticed something in SYZ Act 3; it may be quicker to take the upper path at the end of the stage, because it allows you to avoid the slow block platforming section entirely.

New Hi-Jump Shield Art and animation. (Arrow art created by VAdaPEGA)

I also have the 'Classic Mode' level order option working correctly, but I need to make an actual Start Menu to make it more easily accessible. 'Classic Mode' lacks the hubs as well as the unlockable acts, but does not require the hubs to be restored to get Final Zone Act 2 and the good ending. Since the other stage layouts are incomplete (SLZ, LZ, SBZ), it is only accessible through enabling debug mode for now (and will probably stay that way until the next contest).

    Updates:

Fully implemented Classic Mode; goes through each normal act in order, with no hubs. Since there are currently only 6 acts in this option (LZ, SLZ, and SBZ are still unfinished at the moment) players automatically access the extra act through this mode (this is until every zone in the game is eventually implemented).

Newly implemented 'Hint Arrows'. Next to each Color monitor, are arrows that point in the direction of another monitor (in one of 8 directions), with said monitor's icon. Hopefully, this would make game a bit more intuitive to play, and a bit less difficult.

    Fixed art/bosses in FZ2.

New short underwater section in FZ2.

Even though I won't have the other zones complete, hopefully (by the time the contest deadline hits) I should be able to include a couple more little features that help make the hack more accessible.

The HUD now shows how many monitors you've collected out of the total for the level in place of the time. When you reach the end of the stage, it changes to display your time, and time bonus.
