Hm. Then I hope to solve doubts by asking simpler (hope not dumber): Why is not this ROM considered a romhack?
And I mean seriously, we only got access to a gameplay video, but other hacks, such as Megamix, apparent to be on its same if not further level.

I don't know if I'm saying more than I should be, but I heard that ROM's engine was almost entirely original: only a bit of the object system was borrowed from the Sonic engine. The game was moved to the Homebrew contest after recommendation from the staff: it was originally submitted as a hack. I'm pretty sure Megamix is still fundamentally the Sonic engine; this wasn't.

I think its more or less to do what the project is based on. In case of entries like Big's Fishing Derby, it ran largely on the underlying S3K engine, but unlike with Sonic Warped, which in turn ran on mostly homebrew engine developed by the man himself. From what I can gather that is currently thought to be the defining factor, over how much like it is to Sonic games.

The disagreement and discussion went quite a bit deeper than that. Functionally, it digs all the way down to where the line is between a hack and a homebrew, and that's incredibly contentious as a subject. There was a lot said, and a lot argued, and it was very much a case-by-case situation that may not have even been decided the same if it had to be decided again today.

How come every hacking contest entry was public last year and will every entry be public this year?

I think this will be known and told after the list is published, that is after the extra week deadline.

Because everyone who submitted made it public.
Unless things change by the deadline, there are currently two entries marked Partial Private.

Oh. I thought I remembered people being asked to make their entries public or something. I guess I must've remembering wrong.

It probably would have been a good idea to check last year's thread instead of asking.

A reminder that everyone who has submitted to the contest has until the end of Sunday 16th October to refine your entries for judging which will commence after this deadline.

You must have your entry marked as either Public or Partial-Private by this deadline or your entry will not be judged.

A list of all the entries for this year's contest will be displayed once the deadline is over. These entries will be able to played at the Contest Week from Monday 7th to Sunday 13th November.

More details about the Contest Week will be made available very soon, we have been working on getting the streams lined up and also sorting out issues with the website.

Just asking, are we allowed to update before 15th October ends, or before16th October ends?

I have an issue. I upload new title screen image, it shows up. Then I refresh the page, and the old image shows up. Huh?

Sorry, if I'm asking a stupid question, but how exactly do I update an entry if I am not allowed to change the download link? That's something that confuses me to no end. Or does that rule only apply to entries with external download links?

That rule only goes to people who use external links.

Ah, okay. Thanks. I'm mainly asking this since there's a few last minute fixes to one of my hacks I wanted to apply on (after it's known whenever the first level will get pine trees or not, as CaveQuest is trying to import the Hill Top pine trees as a replacement for the Green Hill palm trees).

Just a quick reminder, in less than 10 hours, the ability to submit your finalized hacks will cease to be.

10 hours people. Get to work. See you tomorrow.

Okay, that's it, the updates deadline is over. If you did not mark your entry as something other than Incomplete, your hack is no longer part of the contest and won't be judged.
