Yep. You could say somewhat like Super Mario Bros. Deluxe where there's only scenery change. At least this is simple enough to work on.
In that case I may also work on Richter in Sonic 1, but NO HPZ. Just little layout changes (scrap the loops) & all his abilities, but not his bosses.

    Hey everyone!

I've seen a lot of questions over on TSSZ and just in general as to whether we plan to incorporate SoE's announced Steam application, SEGA Megadrive Classics, into the Sonic the Hedgehog Hacking Contest.

I've had some preliminary discussions with Spanner regarding this. While we both agree that this is a game changing event (no pun intended), we plan to wait until the program is available and various details about it known before committing one way or another. We agree this could have a fantastic impact on the number of hacks available to play as well as providing a new possibility for submissions as well. That being said, we simply don't have the information we need to make an official announcement one way or the other.

This being said, the answer is a "hopeful maybe". We will provide you with more information in the coming days and weeks. If anyone can mirror this post over on Sonic Retro so that they are also aware of this, it would be greatly appreciated. No, I will not do it myself for personal reasons that I'm unwilling to go into.

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes it could potentially increase the number of hacks and submissions for the contest, but if some hack that is made of pure win and wins all sorts of contest titles is then only playable through Steam and not in emulators, myself and others would feel really gutted since we don't use Steam. Since I don't know how Steam works, I hope it will be easy to adapt them for emulators.

Incorporation of the Sega Megadrive Classics system is unlikely, because its requirements for owning the base game on Steam to play the games and the general hassle and poor management. ROMs distributed on the platform are eligible for the contest if they are submitted properly through the site. Otherwise, they aren't. We have no requirements in place involving the emulator. Simple as that.

I really wouldn't recommend any integration of the Steam emulator whatsoever. By first hand I can confirm that certain hacks still don't work when certain base DLCs are selected (classic example being SRAM in S1 breaking everything but not in S3K), atop of many, many other nuisances, the least of which is that the uploading tool is a fucking nightmare to handle.

You really wouldn't be doing any good to you or the players by allowing. Not even as a bonus.

I have a suggestion. I think it's quite reasonable to make hacks' creators put a NSFW warning if the hack contains it.
Myself, I don't want to randomly encounter those... uhm... things when playing the game, and I think there's more people who agree with me. While I hope this sort of content won't occur in hacks, we have seen some easter eggs with text, and I need to know it's there.

Erm that would ruin the fun however MrCat. Tho I agree with you. NSFW warnings should be given if it has anything of that caliber.

The majority of the hacking community is of the age to handle NSFW content. A bit ironic coming from me, yes, but still.

What if some people simply don't want to see this? It's still important to notify the public.

Name one hack that had NSFW content from last year (that wasn't an easter egg and hard to find by default, such as in SonicMT's case).

Since when was there an increase in NSFW stuff in hacks that such a warning would be required? It's quite needless as those things aren't common.

While I agree that its not common, it's not an excuse. There's some people under the age of 18 there, and a friendly warning wont hurt.

From conversations I remember from last year, it's being considered that you must mark if your hack has NSFW content in your hack. We don't want any more "surprises" like what happened with Johnny's stream last year and it made us all look rather unprofessional.

My own opinion is of course to add such a thing. I also believe that if you ignore this and don't mark your entry you should be disqualified.

I don't represent the judges or organisers, however.

Maybe just add PEGI 666 screen before SEGA screen in NSFW hacks to warn people about "satanic, sick or other edgy" shit? :D

Just get the NSFW tag is needed in this case. As for myself. I do not have this kind of easter egg so it doesn't really concider me yet. But I see where you all come from. The incident is enough to make the contest look unprofessional. Anyway annother question concidering the contest. Can I send in an entry who is a gorefest? (Sonic Nightmare Sim) Cause I have plans about that.
