Well, you all thought Sonic 2 Recreation was dead, didn’t you? Well, it did die, but it’s been revived, with an all new game plan!

Unlike most hacks, there’s an objective to the game. To pass the level, you must first, find the emerald. Otherwise, you cannot complete the level/act.

The emerald is hidden somewhere within the level, one per level (so more than likely going to be 7 proper levels). The first act is the emerald hunting. The second will be the boss. Reason for making the second act as just the boss is because of two reasons:

1) I can’t be bothered making it a proper level.

2) The first act will hopefully be so hard finding the emerald; you wouldn’t want to do it again for the second act.

How does it work? Well, there is a barrier relatively close to the end of the act, which will not let you pass. When you come into contact with the emerald, the barrier will disappear and it will give you access to the end of the level.

Emerald Hill Zone act 1 is nearly done; basically, I’m just going over it again and again. The rest of the other acts or levels are not done.

Anyway, for your viewing pleasure, here are some pictures.

Ah, nice breeze, lovely chequered floor and walls, nice trees, lovely robot monkey, and look at them squared-clouds!

Posted Image

What’s that to the right? It looks like a dash hoop! (The dash hoop is still not complete)

Posted Image

Depending on which way you came, the collision will act in a different way. This is showing Sonic running on the floor.

Posted Image

Coming from up above on the slope, will let you run down and through the floor so...

Posted Image

... You end up here. Good, eh?

Posted Image

Surprisingly enough, this box will give you 10 rings.

Posted Image

This box will give you a random amount. It’ll either be 1 ring, or 10, 20 or 40 rings (got help from Ultima for this).

Posted Image

I let you gather what these boxes do.

Posted Image

Criss-cross!

Posted Image

This is the barrier. It will not let you pass until you have that emerald!

Other levels I intend to include:

Posted Image

This is my own level art. I’m planning to make this over-write Mystic Cave Zone.

Posted Image

This is my old level art that I used in Red Hot Sonic 2.

Posted Image

The art based from Sonic Rush, Mirage Road Zone. This was from my old Sonic 2 Recreation.

Posted Image

This is my other made-up art from my head. This was also from my old Sonic 2 Recreation.

Posted Image

I am debating on this one. Please let me know what you think of what to do. This was going to be in Red Hot Sonic 2.

BETA Testers

My testers so far are

· OrdosAlpha

· PsychoSk8er

· SMTP

· Ultima

I may want a few more.

Please leave comments, questions, criticism, etc. Thank you!

Thanks to SMTP for general help, Ultima for the dash hoop code help and the ?ring monitor help and Stephen for telling me how to make still sprites to objects. Anyone else I've missed out, let me know.

The emerald hunting idea is very smart, RHS.
As for the Emerald Hill art, It's doing good. It reminds me of the Sonic Advance games.
The ? Ring box is another excellent idea, as for that last screenshot you could consider using that in the final boss.
Anyway, keep up with the good work you have there!

Oh wow, I love the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 6th levels' art (not too sure about the square clouds though). The art for the 2nd and 5th levels seems to be a bit too simple, but I guess it's not completed yet.

The concept is also pretty interesting, but the 2nd act should have more to it than just the boss, because otherwise it would be way too short. Anyway, awesome work, keep it up!

I could make it longer, but I just thought you wouldn't want the second act like the first. Plus, if making the 2nd act like the first, there'd only be 4 levels.

As for them art levels, none of them are completed, even with EHZ art. And for the clouds, they will be improved, with JcFerggy's help.

I didn't mean turning the second act into an emerald hunt, I meant having it as a proper act, not just a boss. Even just a short passage or something like that leading up to the boss would be fine.

That was on my old site, but as SGMC went down for a while, it's ot on the internet no more, at least I don't think it is.

Anyway, why do you want to know where that is?

RHS, did you use an svideo out cable to do that or do you have a Gen flash cart? Personally I use an s-video out but a flash cart would allow you to run your hack on the real thing so..
