I'm trying to "port" Sonic 1 backgrounds from one level to another. The asm file doesn't have anything about loading background, and only GHZ art was split between foreground and background. I believe if I split the art, and then mismatch and combine, it should work. (Please stop me there if it's incorrect) My question is how would I split the art? I know how to combine already.

The background is contained in the art file, if you want to port over backgrounds to other levels, you copy the art, mappings, and chunks over to the level you're wanting to port it to. SonMapED would do this, but I don't see this happening, with you saying that they have to be split...

The only reason that GHZ's tiles are split, is because the tiles are used in the Title Screen too. Jesus, did you think otherwise? >.>

:headdesk I tend to overthink, and miss the most simple methods of doing things. I always end up doing that. I knew that GHZ was split for the title screen, I just thought it could be done with the other levels too. I'm an idiot. Thank you though.
