wow, is awesome. arts & layouts is very creative and originals, another thing that I love the system to find the Chaos Emeralds (monitor) is very cool, in style sonic 1 master system version, great job darkon.

I have a question, what is the difference of playing in normal mode (I mean start game) without including the night palette. change difficulty or something?

    also, is my walktrough.

this is part 1, I do not know if I'll be able to grab the emeralds. :p

    This is pretty incredible!

Now I know that, most of the level art and music tracks weren't made directly by you, but you've certainly ported them over and put them together very nicely! The music fits the levels, the foregrounds fit the backgrounds, and the colours aren't bad on the eyes. The layouts and object placements are pretty good too; fun to play, constructed well. You've actually managed to make a full hack with some unique (yet playable) levels, and that's more than most of the other members can say.

There are a few disorientating things though, such as solid breakable blocks that look exactly like the level walls, and certain parts of levels where you cannot tell whether it's solid, or if it's just part of the level's design. The worst one of them all, is that rising platform that squashes you into a ceiling when you're not sure if the ceiling is solid or not.

I would love to see some brand new bosses thrown in, but apart from that, this is a pretty nifty hack, and you should be proud!

I wanted to give this a full playthrough but the FM jump sound made me give up after a couple of acts.

Masterquest = harder layouts and bosses compared to Normal/Game Start mode.

Not sure how am I suppose to figure that out, since they're solid.

You can usually fix that by making sure there's some solid chunks on the bottom of the level.

Only way to know is to check in a level editor, so it's not obvious to me. :/

What rika meant was, put some solid 128x128s at the bottom of the level. So when Sonic hits the top of the screen, technically, he's now hitting the bottom of them chunks; solving the issue.

I see but for me, it's impossible to glitch on top of the solid ceiling, oh well. first time I seen this.

Made minor updates to Hyperdrive and Metal Sonic in Sonic 1, due to one overlooked bugged that's needed to be fix

(Unlocking Level Select from Main Menu Credits.) and I thought the levels are WAY too short.

    [IMG][IMG]

    Metal Sonic Hyperdrive Updates:

    • Few Metal Sonic graphics enhanced
    • Sonic now has Sonic 2 Spindash
    • Somari now has a new Spindash Quick Boost and higher jumpheight
    • Some level layouts are now a bit longer and harder
    • Added Sonic CD Rolljump
    • Added Extras Menu (can be entered by pressing C on Title Screen.)
    • Added Survival Mode (beat the game without losing a single life, extra 1Ups disabled, can be played in any difficultly.)
    • Added a special twist to all emeralds ending for Metal Sonic
    • etc

Metal Sonic in Sonic 1 Updates:

    • Few Metal Sonic graphics enhanced
    • Spindash speeds balanced (also near monitor fixed)
    • Added Sonic CD SFX  (for Hyperdrive Mode)

Nice to see you're still putting work into this. I can willingly say this is one of the better hacks out there right now (and certainly one of the most complete). The level layouts are all really fun to run through and they accommodate the characters really well given all the abilities you've added. And of course the art is beautiful. Seriously, the CD/Chaotix style given to the level aesthetics just makes everything look so vibrant and pleasing to the eye, but at the same time it all blends together.

Of course, it would be nice to have original bosses, but honestly I consider that a minor issue since the effort was already put in everywhere else.

Played through it as Sonic, then a little bit as Lone Devil and Kirby on Normal difficulty (I set it to extreme first, then jumped at an enemy and died... nah fuck that, I'll pass lol).

I like it and it's well put together. I especially like the new chunks and assets and your choice of music (shinobi 3 and yuyu hakusho tracks ftw). I did get pretty frustrated with the last zone though with the way the traps are set up combined with the unforgiving rings scatter effect when you get hit. I didn't beat it until my 3rd run through the game.

I'm guessing I played the updated version where you said you made the levels longer and I think the size is fine as there's plenty of exploration routes to take up more time and keep the player occupied (the hold right to win strategy does make the levels go quick though if the player chooses to play that way).

If possible, I think Kirby should get a couple extra floats in the air (more than one) to more accurately reflect the character's ability. It just feels odd when you can only do it once and then you're left vulnerable afterwards.

Other than that, it was enjoyable and I'll probably play it again sometime and try out the other modes/character options.

Metal Sonic Hyperdrive + Classic Trilogy has been updated and complete (this time), check them out. (first post obviously)

I've revamped Metal Sonic's entire sprite set along with numerous tweaks for Hyperdrive, I recommend trying out the rom yourselves to see the changes.

Didn't expect my 100th post to be a copypaste from Retro + a Hyperdrive announcement.

Time for the unthinkable, This is probably my 10th time saying this will be the final version, but believe it or not this is ACTUALLY it, and there's one valid reason that's been annoying me for quite a long awhile. it's the fucking Jumpdash. Why you may ask? it's really a unnecessary move that barely impacts (or hurts) the level design and I've seen casual sonic players LITERARY abuse the move nonstop to the point of death or suicide, I've also left it there as a excuse for Metal Sonic's playstyle to not be the same as Sonic CD (but not exact) until now. in this update (what I rather like to call "a patch") I've replace the Jumpdash with V. Maximum Hyperdrive Attack. it's basically like a spinboost, similar to Somari's quick spindash (in which he now has CD Spindash) but slightly faster than a spindash without charges. I've originally planned giving it invincibility frames until playtested it's pretty overpowered. I've also once again tweaked the level design a bit and added a few other minor changes. Metal Sonic in Sonic 1 & 2 no longer has the Hyperdrive playstyle but replaced by Sonic CD playstyles including from the 2011 remake. See the first post for downloads. (Roms are now updated in the download urls)

    [IMG][IMG]

Let's be serious, 2D Sonic games aren't suppose to have a Jumpdash nor Homing Attack and it either destroys the purpose of having a Spindash/Peelout or hurts the gameplay/level design (unless Elemental Shields or Sonic Rush style level design, whatever). This concludes the Metal Sonic Trilogy. there's still a small chance that I'll consider making a sequel to Hyperdrive, possibly at the start of 2016 but don't get your hopes up. Enjoy the pure balanced version of Metal Sonic Hyperdrive. on a side note, Metal Sonic 3 & Knuckles remains untouched.

I loved that jumpdash, but your totally right, that move is far too fun to use, and leads to a lo0t of really silly deaths. I was able to squeeze into my S1 hack by making an alternate character who could use it, but didn't have the spindash, making it a much more viable option (also, my hack wasn't ball crushingly mega man style hard, so less idiotic suicides).

I'm a BIG fan of this hack! Will you be adding the V. Maximum Hyperdrive Attack to MSinS1/2/3&K?

I've thought about it before and decided to keep it Hyperdrive-only exclusive.
