Not really a site matter, but certainly a problem on the forums. Over the last year, we have had a fair amount of posts reported using the report button below. Now, in a number of cases this has been fine and the reports have more or less been made with good intentions, something that the staff and admin here appreciate. What we don't appreciate however, is the reports which are pointless and in some cases, infuriating to read.

Now, I don't wish to discourage anybody from using the report button, as it can be a helpful tool for the staff, but I want people to start thinking more carefully before they use . Is the post offensive? Is it in the wrong place? Does it breach any of the SSRG rules? If you answer yes to any of these, feel free to hit the button.

If I keep seeing reports where people have reported a genuine hack post, only to ask us when it will be released or where they can download it, they'll be reprimanded and any repeat of this behaviour in the future from them will result in them being taken away from the site faster than Gary Glitter's grandkids were removed from him.

I hope everyone reads and understands this, it'd be a shame to have to start banging heads just because people can't be arsed reading.

I have NEVER used the report button on neither this site nor the GameOn forums, where I also reside in.

But I'll use it when needed, and wisely.

Bad grammar equals posts like the one redhotsonic gave.

EDIT: I was a little too harsh on this last sentence.  Sorry, MASTERestlib.

I didn't think I'd have to revisit this topic, but apparently the message hasn't gotten across. Lately we are being bombarded with post reports and the vast majority are, for lack of a better word, pointless. The report button is there for if people are actively breaking rules (going drastically off topic, being insulting or offensive) or if a post or topic needs moving to another location. What we don't want to see is people reporting posts for simple spelling errors or a little lapse in grammar, particularly if that member is a trial member. Trial members are monitored very closely, and their inability to post correctly will be picked up on without the need for everyone to point out their flaws. Also, in certain circumstances, short posts are perfectly acceptable. If a person makes a single word post of gratitude towards another member (e.g. Thanks) then that is entirely permitted, as it is just common courtesy. If however the post was something like "Cool" on a topic about a hack which is demanding critique, then that post is about as much use as the kiss of life is to a rasher of bacon. Also, adding in the reports that the member being reported should be banned or reprimanded will result in action being taken, although the person being reprimanded will be the one attempting to tell us how we should be running this place.

Now, I hope this is finally made clear. If we have to sit and work through another load of ridiculous reports like we have over the last week or two, then we'll start coming down on the repeat offenders. It's really not hard to determine what should be reported and what shouldn't. Use a bit of common sense.
