Back in the day... really far back, I planned on creating an expansive collection of pallete hack mods for download.

The idea was that rather than the patches be intended as hacks themselves (individually) they were instead a list of "themes" for zones that could be downloaded and applied in other mods and hacks for those who aren't very good or simply wanting to spend time purely on the more technical side of rom hacking.

The pallete swap shop collection got to about 30 different themes across every zone (where appilcable) from sonic 1, 2, 3, & k. It was never released because at the time I had no net connection my self and eventually through hard disk failure I lost the whole lot and didn't have the means at the time to restart or post the results.

Would there still be use for a project like this or would ips patching be incompatible with the newer assembly hacks?

If so, I have no reservations about starting it up again, the palletes could / should be modified to taste and all I'd ask is credit for the use of the primary theme if still recognizable.

    Any interest?

It sounds like it could be great for new hackers! This should probably be pinned and recommended in the future, seeing as palettes are often a challenge for noobs, and this could make many bad hacks infinitesimally more bearable.

The days of IPS patches passed long, LONG ago. In fact, I remember the last time of me me using them being... never, as I joined the scene in 2008.

IPS patches aside, it is generally believed that nowadays palette hacks don't count as original work. As such, having something to do the fifty clicks to get a completely original palette via a random editor tool is probably the preferred option for both the creator and the community.

While IPS patches are pretty much dead in the Sonic hacking/modding scene these days, disassemblies are where it's at now. But, there's nothing stopping you from still going ahead and building a collection of palette binary files using SonED2 or SonLVL. Just use the copy & paste plus rename method with the palette data files.

I'd find a collection of all the pre-existing palettes from sonic 1, 2, 3k and CD (or any great palettes that are open for the public) to be extremely useful for hybrid/reconstructed zones. Although it would be great if it were just released as one big png file or something as well.. For the artists like me who don't have any hacking skills but instead like to create art for hacks and hackers.

Edit: Also I have no idea about any existing Pallet Libraries but I do know of a Pewter Museum :3

You all should regret that my Sonic 2 hack project never took off for real :(

Ok, I've finished off a few pallets in the Enhanced Shading series - boosting sonic 2 with a bit more variation and posted the first of the Neon Noir series here: http://rabidthog.deviantart.com/gallery/

If you have any ideas about further pallet's PM or post me and I'll see what i can do, more will be coming but i need webspace to start uploading actual mods.

Just wanted to prove I'm not sitting idle.

Nice, add a bit of blue (not a lot) to the shading, just remember to increase the blue ratio the darker it gets till the only really DARK colours you have are blue and purple. (within reason).

I love the pinks and the purples you have there, the backgrounds brilliant, just feels a bit off in the foreground due to the shading,
