Hello. This is my first Sonic 1 hack. It's still WIP so stay tuned.

    This hack features:

    - Palette edit in GHZ, MZ, SYZ and LZ

    - Tile edit in GHZ and MZ

    - Background edit in SYZ

    - Level layout edit in GHZ, MZ and SYZ1

    - Replaced music in GHZ (Nirvana - Rape Me from FreeMIDI.org website), MZ (Blood - Infuscomus from Blood game) and LZ (Duke Nukem 3D - Death Toll from game too)

I've played it and I noticed some problems:

    1. The music doesn't feel Sonic-y.

    2. The bottomless pit before the GHZ boss is a dick.

    3. Some parts of GHZ still reassemble the original GHZ's.

I think it needs more polish, but great work otherwise!

As, Presto said. Music doesn't feel Sonic..I think you have to change game format like musics. Not bad. Do your best.  I don't know how will you improve that ,but for now it's very good. Keep it up and improve it  :stinker:

its a good start but act 2 and 3 of green hill zone are mainly still the original layout and the music in my opinion is far too unfitting.

also i don't see the point of using monitors that don't actually do anything if you want to use  monitors like the eggman monitor or "S" monitor then code it so it does something if you don't know how to code it then you can always ask for help.

So as i said before its a good start but it needs to be worked on.

Ok, I admit I didn't play the whole thing, only the first 3 acts.

    But here's a few flaws I found...

    - Breakable walls stand out due to tile edits.

    - The whole level isn't edited. It's very easy to see parts of the original game.

    - There are monitors that don't appear to do anything.

    - Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the beginning of the 3rd act is even edited.

    - The boss isn't really edited, either. After I beat him, I got bored and didn't continue.

    - In fact, none of the music really fits Sonic in general.

    - What happened to the special stages? I saw it in the title screen demo and... it's hard to explain, watch the demo.

    - The music is really quiet, except for some bits.

However, because it's your first hack, I won't be too harsh. It would be nice if you changed some more things and perhaps added some asm though.

okay, this time I'll review this game. With my reviews I ignore all other reviews and don't give a crap if I'm repeating someone or not. I'm also downloading from the OP.

Okay, starting that game. Title screen's the same, but who cares... the music is... what even is this music? even ignoring the fact it doesn't sound like sonic, the soundtrack just seems to use one or two channels, and... it just doesn't sound good. The level design is... meh. It's different, but I can still recognize a few landmarks of the original levels. And what IS changed seems a bit ballsy and perhaps a little bullshit at times. And besides, what the fuck is the point of the static monitors? it sure as hell doesn't activate the special stage, which is ABSENT, by the way. The bosses are the same.

then Spring Yard happens, where the level design seems completely different with a different backround yet the same music (I'm obviously very happy about there being none of that... music, but I digress). It was hard with bottomless pits everywhere and may I remind you it's only the 3rd zone? I wound up just using the level select code to look at the other levels, because no special stages=NO CONTINUES.

act 1 of spring yard was the only one that was completely changed. Labyrinth had a pallet swap and more of that OH SO lovely music, otherwise seemed to be the same. Star Light and Scrap Brain don't seem to be changed at all.

overall, this hack is not that good. At all. It doesn't seem to even be finished yet, but quite frankly, if you want a good experience, this isn't the place.

note: if the link in the OP isn't the latest verison, then tell me and I'll update the above review.

First, I liked The Pallets! They are very good! I like the pallet for LZ the best, it gives a crystal cave kinda feel... Now I'm sorry but That's really all I like about this hack...

the music... It's horrible, I do not like the music at all! Most of the tunes are too Quite at multiple parts and are just generally bad.  Multiple parts of all of the levels are to reminiscent of the original game, heck I am almost positive GHZ act 3 is unchanged except for that stupid pit at the end of the level that caught me off guard.

Being the only level this appears in GHZ has these monitors that don't do anything! That is annoying. also at the end of GHZ act 3 there is platforms above the boss arena, put rings up there or something!

On to MZ, In Marble Zone act 1 the player can completely skip the underground/castle section making the level extremely short and easy. Other than that the only problem is the music, Not changing some parts of the levels, and some graphical glitches here and there.

Finally SYZ act 1... oh boy it is bad! In multiple parts of the act you run across rooftops or at least I think that's the message your trying to convey, If it is, change the art. There are a lot of bottomless pits that need a full running start to jump across, the only problem is there are springs and Spike balls over pits that require very specific platforming to get across or else you will fall! There are also a part of the act where there are to spikes and behind it are a bunch of enemies! which is really annoying object placement! whew now that that's over with, suggestions!

The title does not make sense, what is Homeland?  South Island, Christmas Island?  and why is sonic returning to it? Is Robotnick and/or eggman whomever you prefer up to his old tricks?

I cannot wait to see the next update. This hack has a lot of potential for some good music, level design, and story, chao! (pun intended, Sorry!)

    Great work on this!

presto is right, this music is not sonic-like.

Nirvana and Green Hill just do not fit together.

But hey, this hack was nice! I like it!

    Keep looking on newer releases!
