    2015, May 31st:To introduce a new idea, (now that my camera works again.) I bet you'll know, when you look. 

    I started HTZ (Hydrogen Temple Zone) a few days ago, but only yesterday on the art itself, so please give feedback!

    I'm  not sure how long it's going to take for me to finish up Emerald Ruin Zone's second act, but once I do, I plan to release a demo of just that Zone, using Sonic.

    2015, May 26th:
    Huge updates, including ported art from Sonic 3 (Rings and Insta-shield), a new move (the "non-destructive jump"), and more level layouts to show! (Finished Acts 1 and 3, wanna-be bug testers are welcome to request a demo ROM.) 

    Anyway, here y'all go:

    - The "Sonyla Team" refers to me and my girlfriend's ship-name.

    First Post: 
    So, I've decided to make my character and hopefully others, like: Ashura, RedHotSonic  (he requested not to be), and maybe even Sonic and/or Scourge. 
    (Feel free to ask me about your character?)

    So, here's what I got so far, a boss for ERZ Act 3, and most of ERZ Act 1.
    (Emerald Ruin Zone!)
    Act 1 is in the images, Act 3 boss is in the video.

      So, the new boss character, (well, one of them,) has been decided. 
    Travin Darkfox, more-so known as "Trav." I had asked him if he's okay with being in this. 
                        He confirms, so here is the concept sprite-ing, in comparison to my character. 

    (Yes, I did the sprites myself based on what he told and showed me.)

    Alright, I dunno why nobody has really said anything, but I'm going to break this silence by, y'know, giving criticism.

    Poynt da furst: Myoosix. Throughout the entirety of the video, the music is audible, yes, but the problem is that it's incredulously slow. Slow music can emit a more calming vibe, but this doesn't work right for every scenario. Probably the best example is your boss music, which is slow, giving off a sort of calming vibe. This is the opposite of what you usually want for a boss battle: fast, intense music that really symbolizes how you're about to get your ass handed to you if you don't step up your game. The other example is the extra life sound, which plays far too slow for something that's supposed to be pretty upbeat and happy. I mean, really, you just got another chance at life, how can you NOT be ecstatic? Basically, the boss music and extra life music should be made faster.

    Poynt da sekinned: Karektur art. Out of curiosity, why are you using a fan character? Aside from the obvious fact that it's a recolored Sonic, this Calvin guy you have doesn't really seem to have much that differentiates him from other Sonic The Hedgehog re-skins out there. Trust me, I know what it's like to have a character you can call your own; I have several of them for a show I plan to create in the near future, one of whom is on my avatar. However...if you don't use a more original base for your character, you'll run out of unique things to do with them pretty damn quickly because 1.) chances are what you're doing has already been done, either by the base character or one of his/her spinoff characters, and 2.) if it has been done, chances are it's been done in a more interesting way. To make a long story short, you really should try to use a more original character.

    That's really all I have to say for now, as you haven't given us much to work with. I will say that this project does have potential, and I want to see it blossom into something amazing. It just needs to be polished up. A lot.

    But, my character isn't just purple; he's got a tail. 
    Aside from that, I plan on making my character one of many playable in this hack, including Sonic himself.

    So, new title cards, and changed the header!

    1.) Make the tail do something unique or don't put it there.
    2.) Then don't run on EU PAL MD settings. Run on American NTSC settings, thanks, so that I don't need to make that point again.

    3.) Double post again and you're probably dead. And I mean it; you're at your 18th post, so you only get 2 more. And chances are you won't get a second chance to be member, should you fail to get in after your twentieth post.

    Having a game running in European PAL setting is acceptable in my opinion.  Some may use the disadvantage that is "slow frame rate", as a reason to frown people from using it, but there are advantages too, such as a longer time span during the vertical blanking interval, and the game logic using v-blank as a timer, allows more time in which to process the game logic, thus reducing on potential lag.  I find the disadvantages and advantages however, are both irrelevant since what we're dealing with here is an act of preference.  Telling people what regional machine they must play their game on (just because you prefer otherwise), does not account for law binding moral grounds, nor SSRG's board rules.

    May I also remind you that your current position does not say staff.  As a former staff member myself, I would feel rather insulted having someone burst in acting as if he runs the place, rather than simply keeping quiet and leaving the staff and the forum system to handle potential negative impacts by new members in the trial phase.  If what you were saying was meant to be advice as opposed to orders, then I would suggest working on your typing style as it came across as a directive order, rather than honest, friendly, recommendations.

    I don't have much of an opinion for the project though, it seems too mediocre for me, and maybe some decent direction/production would go down well.  But all in all, it's your everyday hack, nothing special.

    Have you done anything more with Pana Der Hedgehog?
    He's really inspiring from the first hack I saw him in, and those upped frame-rates made me like the hack so much more!
    Did you use SonMapEd for that?

    I have a couple things to say.

    • The 'A' in Calvin's life icon looks waaaay out of place, compared to the rest of the capital letters. That's a really easy fix.
    • The FILTER. AGGGGH. Please, for screenshots, don't use a filter. even if you make them larger. I don't care if you use them when you're playing or whatever, but for screenshots, just... don't.
    • The font you use for the level select is extremely hard to read. Maybe get rid of the gray parts if you want to keep it styled like that.
    • The tiles for platforms, as well as the ground in general, kind of clash. They don't really blend together that well.
    • Sonyla is a strange name for a ship. (I just had to.)

    ​As far as I know, only OrdosAlpha really has a problem with them. 
    He is, of course, administrator, so I have to respect his demands and bullying.

    But, still, RedHotSonic is a fan-character, but he was here before many of the rules were placed.
    Technically, I started here in 2014, after using it since somewhere like 2012 or '13. 

    All that aside. 

    "​Ship-name" refers to "name of a couple," as it seemed you didn't know, the way you said it.

    The A, I just made it capital a few minutes ago.
    The stage, Emerald Ruin, as far as artwork is still going through modifications and cleaning. (As well as it's Act 2 needing finishing.)

    Did you mean the platform being too bright, too​?
    (If so, I'll fix it soon.)

    Also, I fixed most of the dirt-and-platform sections to be more blended.

    This is actually kinda looking like it might turn into something. Just one little nitpick I have is "Dark Tails" or whatever being the boss. He's too dang cute for that :( You'll have to find a boss character who's actually cool or intimidating, or (like eggman himself) comically following the "evil guy" stereotype. When it's just tails in a red shirt.... I feel like hugging him; it's too much cute for a boss...

    @Pacguy64, I've already finished the art, and Trav himself wanted and likes the idea of being the boss.
    Of course, there WILL be other boss characters in other Zones.

    ​Er... I think RHS was supposed to be a joke fancharacter for his first hack back in the day. (Then again, don't quote me on that, only one who could really give a say on the matter is RHS himself.)

    Also why cross out the "and bullying" text? Ordos is an adminstrator on a forum, I'm pretty sure that what he does is try and enforce the rules, and that he's mature enough not to harass people on the internet.

    Although, I did message him during my first week of finally being a member (at the time, "Trailist").
    I still, to this day, enjoy his hacks, old and new.

    ​It might not have been "bullying" if I wasn't so sensitive to him calling me and my character shit.

    ANYWAY, SOME SIDE-UPDATES!

    1: ​I edited the 1 2 and 3 for Act numbers in the title card again,

    mostly because the light blue from when I used the palette I plan to use later.

    Yes, I took some time to custom-build that part, but SCORE TIME RING is right from the sFactor hack, and I've seen it in other hacks in other colours.
    I wasn't up for making my RPG-style HUD yet, so I'm sticking with this for awhile.

    3: Emerald Monitors, Work in Progress

    As of now, it just plays music and makes you invincible.
    The plan is to use the music to say that "you are ready for the special stage."
                             (That way, you're not relying on just a variable in the code.)
    Using the code here, I will make it so while this music is playing (and variable is set), you will fall off the stage and be warped to the (coded as) Act 4.
       This will be the special stage, and each Act 4 will be a maze with custom Emerald objects for gamemode id_level.

    Of course, like Sonic 2: Illuminati -cough-
    I mean, alike to Sonic 2: Aluminum Edition, I will use Space Gems, rather than Chaos Emeralds.

    4(?): Kind of just a boredom teaser, I use "Sonic 2: Master Edition" for inspiration.

    Now, I'm sure some of you read about how that hack is complete bull,

    but I still play it (easily, how odd?) to study how the palettes blend, and some of the mechanisms work. 
    (Such as: Push-able spikes, alternate routes and entrances, ect'.)

    ​Your fancharacter is a purple Sonic with pants and a fox/wolf tail. I'm pretty sure a lot of people think your fancharacter isn't that good, especially when you consider that they have all the same moves as regular Sonic does.

    Just going to say: Don't add unnecessary crossed out text like that if you don't want people to talk about it and thus drive the discussion off-topic. But yes, this discussion is considerably over, I would say.

    (Unfortunately, creating the GIFs is still being troublesome on my computer, so just some stills.)

    1: Let's start with the new monitor art, along with re-done idling sprite:

    3: Also, I added another new move.In a way, like the hack Sonic Boom, but more maneuverable. Push down while jumping to increase downwards velocity.

    Just a few more things until the demo release! 

    • Replace the BuzzBomber  (Just did it! June 8th)
    •  Finish Act 2  (Did it earlier today! June 7th?)
    • Fix Sonic's extra artwork loaders. (Wall jump and Spindash animations)
    •  Complete the Emerald Monitor's function (hopefully...)  ? (Probably going to take way too long, but I'll try.. June 8th)
    • Temporary Demo-release things, such as: ​Level order file for stopping at ERZ Act 3, Level Select removal, Alternate character engine removal.
