Not much people played Competition Mode, but I found a glitch at original S3K ROM. Where you pressed Left key at the platform covers the loop will SPEED you back really fast...

I think I had already been doing this for 2 or 3 years ago, I had no Internet at the time, but I don't remember very well.

This isn't new. I have managed to break S3K in many ways just that one have I pulled off in multiple speedruns I have done in the competition mode. This glitch is also found in Azure Lake but that is harder to trigger.

I remember faintly doing this in a real machine over 10 years ago. This is hardly new news, but then again its useful to document glitches with the game, as I've done for Sonic 1 before.

There are plenty of things you can mess around with in Competition Mode like this:

    • Wall ejection zip in Azure Lake thanks to the large tree, allowing laps to be completed in a few seconds each or really fast speeds to be achieved. You can get stuck above the level this way.
    • The infamous Tails flight into a balloon in Balloon Park, allowing to complete laps above the level on almost flat ground (Sonic 3 Alone only).
    •  Another wall ejection zip in Chrome Gadget near the descending platform. You can also go through the descending platform instead of waiting for it, if you're clever enough.
    • Not only the Desert Palace glitch you mentioned, but also, if you can gain enough speed and height from the first quarter pipe and jump left, you can go behind the lap counter, but it will think you've finished the lap. This is quite difficult to do, however.
    • Jumping high enough to skip path swappers in Endless Mine, allowing you to be on the wrong path with wrong priority, or skipping sections of a lap if done correctly.
The specific issue mentioned in Desert Palace, however, occurs due to the way the collision is coded for that loop, along with the placement of a path swapper. It's a bit difficult to explain, but you essentially run into all solid collision, which ejects you.
