This boss fight, this is exactly what I expect out of the modern scene, this is definitively Robotnik/Eggman Trophy worthy in Sonic Hacking Contest XIV Online.
The background feels as if it be a more modernized incarnation of what would happen if Vis~Play from The Chaos Layer and the boss of Gust Planet Zone Act III in The Next Level were to have a baby together and bring in Robotnik, this is considerably one of the utmost artful displays of the graphical approach that I have viewed up to now, it definitely ties up with these two titles for being the utmost appealing to the eyes and works extremely well for what it wants to deliver, something that we have been viewing more often in recent time.

The Mirrored Floor effect is what makes this almost perfect, key word being "almost", the reflection truly does work extremely well but the fact that it is (somewhat) not easy to tell where the floor begins and ends, it definitely would help to have a Glass~like Pseudo~03D Foreground, rather similar as to what Project MD had done and was going for with Infinite Field Zone, that would help out a little bit for certain players, Realtime Speedrunners and TASers alike, especially.
Wishfully, this boss fight will become more of a masterpiece than what you have currently shown off, there definitely be a massive lot that seems to be going on with this level and probably could snag far more than simply the Robotnik/Eggman Trophy at Sonic Hacking Contest XIV Online, this is a rather massively advanced edit of Sonic the Hedgehog 03 as it already be and is considerably one of the best titles on a graphical scale that I have viewed up to now, when compared to similar Sonic 03 ROM hacks of this nature (Resort Island be the primary candidate for comparison in visual quality); keep up the good work, this is a superb job and considerably one of the utmost unique things to currently come out of this year, truly an astoundingly beautiful work indeed. :)

Looks good so far. Been DYING for some S3K hacks for ages, and NOT just some simple layout-and/or-pallete hacking.

    Looks good.

Back in SHC 2011, I made a hack called Sonic 1 Misadventure. Retrospectively, I don't like the name, but I will keep it. I've been working on the third zone and have finished act 1. I've been focusing on making a good level layout, avoiding bad object/badnik placement, avoiding hold-right-to-win, and adding rewarding alternative paths. I kind of want to give the rom so others can try it decide if the layout is okay. But I don't feel I'm ready for an actual release of my hack.
So I made a video of act 1 and the special stage.

Wow, that looks great! One of the better things I've seen posted for a while, looks fun to play and has good art, and interesting use of objects....though the bee badnik looks kinda strange...

    Looking forward to it! :)

Somebody really likes Knuckles's theme from S3K :p

In all seriousness though, looks pretty cool, with a good layout and nice art. I do have a few minor issues, though. First, the background for the zone you showed is pretty much a (mostly) unmodified SYZ background. If that's intentional, fine, but it would be nice to see a custom background, even if it's just cut-and-paste content from other Sonic games.

Second, the special stage appears to be well done and doesn't rely on those diamond things solely as a means to waste time, as well as Sonic 4 style rotation which you totally stole from me even though this is probably the first time I mentioned that I ever made something like it*. However, there's one thing that could make it better: The smooth rotation hack.

    * This is obviously a joke. In reality, I lack the talent to make a Sonic hack that has content worth stealing**. (Although I actually did make a hack with Sonic 4 style special stage rotation as a "proof of concept." I never released it outside of #ssrg though...) I used to dabble in Sonic hacking, but I just kinda lurk here nowadays...

    ** Self-depreciation? Really? God I am pathetic -___-***

*** There I go again! What is WRONG with me?

Furry furr furr ewww Jokes aside, the only great "issue" is the lack of life on this zone. You seem to know the necessary to handle this, so why not try to do some palcycle or animated art? It does much more than you imagine, and adds a lot of profundity.

That looks good. And totally looks like it could have been in the original release of Sonic 1.

What happend here? Did Eggman give Sonic red rings? No these bloody things are Rings covered in blood with Sonic standing in the new and improved Nightmare Hill. (Thanks for the feedback earlier TheFieldWarrior and Chaotix).

I don't see any bloody colors here... Rings are more like dark orange than "bloody" for me.

@D-Leo: I am glad to see that you are still working on this hack, I remember this hack way back when I was still in college. I really like that S3K remix you used for the level as well as the new shields you've put in the game, the level design looks pretty fun and actually fits well with Sonic 1 since it's the most platform heavy game in the classic series. Great work, keep it up

@Cavequest: Glad to see that used one of my suggested palettes Cavequest. The small flowers look a bit weird and the waterfall is still blue, however the grass and the walls are very well shaded and give off the nightmare-ish vibe. Keep improving on your palettes

This is why I would test anything visual on a variety of displays.
In my case, I test it on an a TV or two (of different types), on a portable device (in my case, a gohper and any 'DS), my own laptop, AND any computer I can use during a break, such as work computers during lunch break, or for those in a school setting, "the computer room." Don't tell Vector I said that.

Sounds like he might need to calibrate his screen. You can find all sorts of calibration tests online, but because I'm feeling somewhat generous, I'll link to one here.

    DISPLAY CALIBRATION

Should be obvious, but test your screens and know their limitations before you fiddle around with art and colors, peeps.

Maybe because the game's story passes in a dark/nightmare ambiance? :v
The darker Sonic makes sense for me.
