You really can't dismiss one's claim of something being overused with 'I haven't seen it used much'. The entire reason they're saying it's overused is because they've seen it used a lot before.

True, i haven't seen everything. That wasn't what i was trying to say, if that's what you thought i said. They've been here longer than i have, so now i'm starting to think they were right. The thing is, i still want to use the sprites. I like the style of them and look miles better than the original sprites i used. I'm entitled to my own opinion, and i think others will agree with me.

C'mon, I downloaded the hack and now this version I got is outdated? Fine.. Downloading it again.

For your first try creating an hack, this isn't bad. This is stable, so no bugs...
Oh, and here is a tip: Like on this post, not answer. You only have 1 post left, use it wise.

I'm tired of this arguing over what sprites look good or are overused. Some people like Sonic 3's sprites or the Mod Gen sprites and some don't and that's fine. What isn't is people telling others to change their hack's sprites for Sonic because they don't like the way they look even though the hack's creator and a large number of others think they look fine. If the hack's creator and a large number of others like how Sonic's sprites look, then it should stay the way it is. The argument that a Sonic sprite is overused shouldn't be talked about either considering the limited number of sprite sheets, both official and custom, on the internet. What should be discussed about the sprites should be how well they fit the hack, how well they are ported into the hack (rotating, aligning, and stuff like that), or how custom, edited, or obscure sprites look.

I know this may go against how people give criticism, but this has been discussed to death and I'd like to see it stopped.

Anyway, I haven't played this hack yet but I'd like to say the background looks lazy. Using the same tiles for the background as part of the foreground make the background blend in with forground. The background also looks basic and uninteresting. You can't even tell what the background is supposed to be. I recommend editing the background using either custom art or art used in other backgrounds. You can also make your own background and import it into SonLVL, but first you need to learn and take into account the Genesis' sprite limitations.

I totally agree. I also agree with everything else as well.
I'm making new tiles, this as it is right now is simply placeholder and will change. (Well, if SonED 2 will port the art into the bloody game)

Oookay, I've played the new version.
So, the SEGA screen is just Sonic 1's SEGA screen but on a black background.
The title screen is still the same. You should really fix the music. Also, I don't like it being on a plain green background.

    Let's get into Emerald Isle.
Well, that's a better name, but I think I've already heard similiar names before.
Layout has improved since last time, but it still lacks of Obj44s. You should check around it. Act 3 is mostly stack Act 3, and the boss arena is just... the original boss arena but with lower platforms.
I honestly like the ModGen sprites, even if they are overused.
Now, music. Music is just bad S3K ports. I mean, have you even listened to the music before releasing this version? It lacks most of the drums! You should fix that issue either.
The background in Emerald Isle deserves a great no. You should not use foreground blocks/chunks for the background.

Overall, this hack is improving, but it still is a generic Sonic hack. Next time, don't release a new version so soon, but take your time and make a huge update, or maybe, release it when it's finished.

This is a decent first attempt with an obvious focus on getting the basics down and getting used to the tools and whatnot. At this stage, I find a lot of the "polish" as being unnecessary to worry about. You should focus on understanding the tools and learning what you are doing. Things like sprites and music are subjective and not worth worrying about.

In other words, you should focus on making sure your sprites are accurately ported / completed rather than what sprites you are using. You should worry about using the correct instruments, including missing instruments, etc. rather than what tune is playing. I hope that makes sense. Don't get overwhelmed by all the opinions here. Look for the bugs mentioned and areas of the game that clash (bad level design, object placement, collision, art, etc.) rather than focusing on aesthetics that people mention (zone name, what sprites you're using, what song is playing, needing new art, title screen being "boring", etc.).

Be mindful of bumping threads that are months old, especially when you're just continuing a dead conversation.
