    After several years, the next Sonic 8 bit hack arrives!

    Now you can play 3 all-new zones, completely with new layout and artwork! And remember to sometimes stop and go sightseeing, the surroundings are pretty interesting...

    ZONE LIST:

    * Seaside Hill Zone
    A paradise filled with palmtrees and flowers. When you go into the cave, don't worry, just watch out for those spikes!

    * Cyan Speedway Zone
    The giant city under the starry sky. Here you can run as fast as you can, but don't forget to hop over enemies!

    * Dream Gate Zone
    A mysterious castle somehow flying in the clouds. Enjoy your way, but don't fall.

    Well, that's all for now. Have fun playing!

    I don't think I've ever seen such an extensive hack of the 8-bit version of Sonic 2.

    The first thing that grabbed my attention was the visual presentation. The custom graphics in the hack are amazing and can make it difficult to believe I'm looking at an 8-bit game. From what I've played, the levels seem well-designed, but they don't seem to compensate for the lowered jump height Sonic seems to have. In addition, Sonic feels a bit more slippery than in the 16-bit games, but that may just be the game's engine, rather than the result of anything you did. Do you plan to increase Sonic's jump height in the future if at all possible?

    Still blown away by how beautiful this hack is. Seaside Hill almost looks like it came from the SEGA 32X.

    Now THAT'S what I call "remastered"!.. if it will be implemented in a ROM, not as mockup.

    It will be, unless I'll just, you know, give up halfway through the "importing" process. The problem is that there's no import tools for SMS that work for my needs, and I have to redraw every single tile into the editor manually every time. Ugh.

    That's what I had to do with my 8-bit Sonic 2 hack.
    It's a pain I know, but in the end it's worth it. If you want, I can help you with it.

    Heh, that reminds me of my GG Sonic 1 sprite remake
    Oh wait, you said you got inspired from it, lol.

    I guess you've remade my remake?

    I love what you have done with ReMastered, and makes Project Aspect look amateur in comparison. Also, the ground in the island stage looks a lot like Angel Island. Is this intentional?

    jk lmao

    So, basically, I have two announcements to make:

    • The hack won't be ready for SHC2017, and the release date is pushed back to 2018 (and hopefully it won't be delayed even more). The reason for that is because I don't want to rush everything like I did in 2016, and... I also want to make a full, complete hack with all planned zones. I have big plans, so it would take a while to do everything, but I hope it will be worth it in the end.
    • The hack's name is changed to "Sonic Crystal Island" (suggested by TheBlurCafe), as you can see on that pic. This is meant to indicate that the hack aims to be a completely new experience, rather than a remaster of Sonic 2.
    So... yeah. Have a good day.

    That's a shame that you won't be able to make this year's contest. Hopefully you can submit your 16 Day Challenge instead.
