Bleh, Amy. The same person who made a video of my Hyper Sonic hack, and then made the download link point to a completely-different hack - 'Sonic 1 by Condy'. At least those damn stolen hack websites actually let you play the game.

I think he was talking about the YouTube audience, not everyone in general (hence "dumb people"). He may have uploaded the hack here, but he didn't make those videos. And besides, people such as Razor have said that they wouldn't make a video if told not to.

Okay, so are we just gonna accept that Amy Rose is doing a video of the hack without Unlimited Trees' permission? We ain't gonna do anything against that?

What would you like us to do about it exactly?

I dislike having video content about unintended work broadcast as much as the next, but as soon as you publish your hack to the public you can't just say "okay you guys can play it, but not you".

What really annoys me about Amy Rose and Razor is that they never make clear something is just a WIP. It adds false impression that something is the finished product. Unfortunately, their audience aren't exactly showing that they do research before commenting on these videos. Unsurprising really, but still sad.

I never thought I would ever suggest that, since I'm usually opposed to that idea, but...why not just report her? I mean, Youtube is well known for being trigger-happy with sent reports and shutting down channels.

I dunno, man. I mean, what can you pin on her? I'm pretty sure what she does falls under Fair Use. You don't need permission to show off something that's public. It's impolite as all hell to make a video when explicitly told not to, but I think the last thing YouTube - the home of the comments section - prioritises is politeness.

I'll tell you one thing that should be done, though: hacks that people don't want cropping up on YouTube should have something like a splash screen or a message right on the title screen that outright says the uploader is an ass.

I'm sure people would think very favorably of us hackers if we tried to pull something like that!

I don't remember Movie Maker being good at placing a censor bar or something over part of the screen. Mainly, it would only let you cut out entire frames. That said, that's why I suggested something on the title screen. People would find it weird if a video skips the title screen. Even then, if they do censor the video, then you could argue the video is inaccurate representation, giving you some ammo against them. Not to mention, anyone who downloads the mod will see the message. Maybe they'll spread it around the comments section.

At first I wasn't too upset about people playing old versions and uploading them on YouTube... until it happened to me. Maybe we can have some kind of disclaimer screen for people to use in their hacks. It will explain that they don't want videos of old versions of their hack uploaded online if a new release is available. The date of the build could be included at the end of the message to help too. (I wish I could swipe this build of my hack out of my mind) Edit: Some uploaders might not know it's old, I don't think we should assume they upload it to piss us off. Also I don't think it will make the community look good if we call people asses just because they upload a video of an old version by mistake, or even if it's not a mistake because it really isn't that big of a deal.

I feel like I've been hit by this kind of thing the hardest. I released a broken, heavily unfinished, extremely buggy hack in this thread, my goal simply being to ask the community if I should just give up on it or start from scratch. While the thread did it's purpose just fine, razor decided to make a video about it. The video doesn't even remotely mention that it's not supposed to be a finished product, and the description was little more then a link to the thread he got it from.

Not only was the hack being presented essentially as a finished game, but he even played through areas I specifically mentioned were unfinished and not worth playing at all in the video (EHZ was little more then a few scrambled, repetitive chunks). As a result, the comments thread was filled with people talking about how the hack was utter garbage, and how lazy I clearly was with it. It was not enjoyable to see. It would definately be nice to have a community anti-youtube splash screen to stick in to a similar project in the future to avoid such hassles...

Yeah I was lucky enough for people to let Amy know that they were playing an old version. Someone even complemented that the new versions music was better, so at least I knew people thought the new one was an improvement. What happened with you really sucks and maybe this splash screen can help prevent this from happening to anyone again. Also thanks for agreeing with my idea, because they usually suck. Edit: Wow we have really gone of topic here, sorry Unlimited Trees.

I think a splash screen saying "I don't want older versions" could be too demanding, might be better off saying.

This hack is a work in progress, there is a strong chance that there
may be an 'updated version' of this hack somewhere, and this may
be outdated, please follow my thread on:

    "http address of thread here..."

And keep up to date with awesome updates~

Thank you in advance for being considerate.

I still think the date of the build should be in the message somewhere. The message sounds nicer but there is a possibility pointing to the thread won't be enough because some people might be too lazy to skim through a thread for the newest version or won't be able to tell which one is the most recent. Plus some hackers update their first post with new builds and some update them in a new response, so it can be difficult to pinpoint which build is the most recent. (I take it you will be the one who codes it then since you came up with the message? =p)

Edit: Something I forgot to mention is that there is no read me included in the download because I was lazy. Please go check the credits and song list at the beginning of the page before downloading!

Ok, so I haven't been working on this hack a lot. I've mostly been focused on another project, and I've kinda just sorta ignored this hack. However I've been doing a few things while working on the other project and I felt like just giving you guys a random build because fuck it you guys deserve something after over a month of nothing even though that what I'm presenting is still sorta probably broken and still contains a few problems I've yet to fix (such as EPZ's background) Note that there's barely anything changed since the last version besides a few tweaks and one new layout being completed.

    Anyways, here you go.

Here's a screenshot from earlier which I'm recycling because it's 10 at night and I'm too lazy to make another one:
    Changelog:
-Signpost art fixed thanks to LooneyDude. Sonic and Eggman doesn't look shitty anymore.
-Platform mappings are fixed for EPZ, DDZ, and GHZ. I wanted to fix MCZ's objects but I never got to it.
-New art for Orbinaut and Caterkiller
-Green Hill Act 2 is finished and Desert Dazzle Act 3 is barely started (keyword barely)
    -Fixed "RING" text
-Hidden in GHZ2 is an S monitor. If you've played Pepsi in Sonic 1, you would know what they do.
-New Sega sound and SSRG is changed (Apologies to Royameadow as well as anyone who doesn't like Snow Halation)
-Other levels minorly tweaked to fix some problems, such as in EPZ3 where you can get stuck in a pit of spikes
-Title Screen background removed for now.

Also, once again I still don't care about YouTubers doing videos of this as much, though I'd probably get pissed if you call this version "Final" or if you don't even link to this thread.

(I should've also done the splash screen Otter suggested, but I'm too lazy and I gotta work on more important things)

Unlimited Trees, please refer to rules 0 and 5. When we said we were taking the rules seriously from now on, we weren't joking.

Also I thought the only reason you got upset when they uploaded playthroughs of your hack is because they never explain how its not the final product, but this time they explained it in the description.. so I dont know what the problem is?

Mostly the fact that Arsen congratulated me on having Amy do a video on the hack even though in this same exact thread I'm bitching about Amy doing the video. Oh and also the fact that Amy didn't even apologize and they just put out this video and just say "oh its incomplete I guess lol" and they just link straight to the download.
