So... I know what you might be thinking. "Lone Devil's already done this exact thing in the past!" While that IS true, this is my take on the exact same concept. It uses the same sprites, and it's not that much different, I still thought I'd put it out here anyway.
    Credits:
Lone Devil - providing the sheet with Metal's sprites, providing advice, and the initial art/dplc/mapping files because he saw I was having trouble importing some sprites.
    LuigiXHero - Peelout code
MainMemory - SonAni, the animation editor I used to make Metal use his MSHD peelout charge sprites
SonicBoom (goes by a different name on here, I think) - making the "METAL" life counter text look awesome
    NOTE:
Also, beware slopes sometimes. Graphics seem to fuck up at random... I can't extend the art and dplc limit either, so...
    SCREENSHOTS:
Excuse the giant touch control buttons, I didn't have access to a pc when I took those! Screenshot_20171001-213452.png Screenshot_20171001-213641.png Screenshot_20171001-214247.png Screenshot_20171001-214238.png
This is what happens when you walk down slopes sometimes... I don't know what causes it or how to fix it. I do know the whole game is beatable without this happening, which is good. Screenshot_20171001-221357.png

EDIT: I fixed it. It was literally just a screwed up animation file. I'll upload the new version later.

...So all this hack is a 2001 Character Swap with the only noticeable change to programming is a spindash? Ok. I mean, there is nothing else to truly say. It's Metal Sonic, in the normal Sonic 1.

While Pineapple could've phrased his post somewhat better, I agree with his core idea. This hack really isn't much to write home about. It's a concept that has been done before, and with far less glitches along the way. That's not to knock your hard work, however, just saying that it could've been better spent elsewhere.

If you want to go for some sort've character swap, I'd honestly go for someone that hasn't ever been done before. Hopefully some of the tutorials you've followed have given you a better understanding of 68K, and will allow you to make more advanced modifications to the game's code. Or maybe you could keep Metal Sonic in, but create a whole new hack around it. I dunno, just spitballing ideas out there, take it or leave it.

Again, I'm not trying to undermine your effort, but in my opinion, it was effort wasted. Still, it could potentially be a good first step, depending on what route you decide to head down. Personally, I look forward to when you release your next hack, and I'm looking forward to see how you've learned and improved from this experience.

How is it good? You're supposed to fix serious bugs like this before you release work.

Oh and something else, please tell me what you did yourself. Literally everything seems to have been contributed by other people and you just added all that in a disassembly.

Spindash and peelout, but your point's still valid.

Now that you have this as a base, you can now push the Metal Sonic concept further into something unique! For example, what if this became a "Defeating Sonic Training Simulator" where every boss was a simulation of Sonic that gains more and more abilities each level?

That was just a random idea, but my point is that you can (and should, in my opinion) do more with this. Otherwise, you'll just have what appears to be a copy of Lone Devil's hack (from what I can tell, you haven't specified yet what makes this 'your take' on the idea).

Very nice idea, TheInvisibleSun! I'll get right to working on that as soon as I can!
