Hi, I'm a newcomer on SSRC Forums, and I show you my first and only Sonic 1 hack: Troll Sonic 2!

(No, this isn't Sonic 2 hack. It's actually the Sonic 1 hack.)

Want to experience hard? Well, I think that my Sonic 1 hack is one of the hardest Sonic ROM hacks ever. It might be "trolling hard" but things might still be almost same as you know it. This hack changes levels layouts, object placements, music (without the custom music one), and others etc. It took me two days to finish that ROM Hack!

And only mastered players can beat this game...

Currently, only zones were modified completely:

    • Green Hill Zone (Act 1 and Act 3)
    • Spring Yard Zone

    Known errors
    • Marble Zone Act 1 and 2 weren't playable, but it can be chosen on Level Select, but it'll kills you instantly as sooner as you start the zone till you got a Game Over.
    • Marble Zone Act 3 instant skips to the Eggman boss in the empty blue background. And if you beat the boss, the changed music will be reset to the original music.
    • The game crashes in midway of Spring Yard Zone Act 1. So that's why isn't playable unless if you access it via Level Select.
    • When you beat SYZ it sends you into SBZ (Scrap Brain Zone) and when you beat SLZ (Star Light Zone) it sends you into LZ (Labyrinth Zone). LZ and SLZ also isn't playable without the Level Select. I can't fix this issue (that I caused.)

    Tips

    • On a few other situations you may die sooner or later if careless, hit the button at the right timing, not the ABC button.
    • At the near end of Green Hill Zone Act 3, found the Invisible monitor at some palm tree at the checkpoint on the stone with springs, and stand on the platform and... Robotnik. Don't move until he explodes. Please kept that in mind.
    • Hidden S monitors were scattered through the Green Hill Zone and Spring Yard Zone! Can you find it? (Although you might need Debug Mode for help getting a few others you wouldn't normally get...)

    Screenshots

Quickly press the button other than ABC buttons at the right timing to save yourself.

Sonic will dies in this hack as shown in this photo if you careless.

Found the secret S monitors and crack them all up!

    ...... (Used Debug Mode)

This is just your day playing the "trollin' hard" Sonic 1 ROM Hack...

    Trolled again.

    Trolled again and again.

Jump carefully in order not to die.

You'll wouldn't seeing that this is your best day ever after seeing this image.

That's all. I hope you have enjoyed this hack! Any feedbacks will be welcomed here!

    Download Link

Unmastered players will be warned. And anyways, here's the download link

Emulator must be required to play this ROM Hack. I suggest you should choose Kega Fusion for your computer.

EDIT: I forgot that the name "Troll Sonic 2" used for my first hack was already used on a Sonic sprite comic at DeviantArt years before... oops. (I'm not spammer)

That chunk without breakable wall in GHZ 1 just no, man, this reminds me to Kaizo hacks, why you put 3 spikes in the right side when must be only 1?. Spikes on the GHZ rock looks very bad. I guess is not good start like that. Chunk with breakable wall must go in GHZ 2 and 3.
If you plan to do a hack with moderate difficulty, at least be decent and honest if you are interesting to learn, because as I'm observing, you said "It took me two days to do the edits."
Making a hack does not take two days as you are saying, another thing is that this type of hacks have been seen thousands of times and we do not accept that they do things like that from above, at least try to do something without getting out of the theme.
Why you use the debug mode?. Show your pics without that, you must handle with carefully your content, here we are very tired to see this things.
There are a lot of things out of place, so I want to see something different and better the next time.
Let's be mature when it comes to improvising "the difficulty", I think it is not the right thing to do this kind of thing out of place if you want to do something that is considered playable, also there is a lot you must learn, so I hope you do not do more hacks like these.

I genuinely believe everything present in this ROM hack is bad.

The title is very easily misunderstandable. To someone who simply won't read any part of the description, it will be considered misleading, and you never want that from a title.

The level design features everything one should NOT have in a level. Leaps of faith, bottomless pits, cutoff chunks, large amounts of the original level design intact, I could go on forever with this hack.
Is it hard? Yeah, I guess.
Is it enjoyable? Not in the slightest.
This is not level design that tests a player's skill. This is a test of one's patience, because it's just frustrating.

The music. You really felt it necessary to just switch around the in level music in a way that simply does not make sense. And you didn't even try to fix the fact that bosses will still play the original music.

Overall, this ROM hack is a total waste of time. To those who wish to try it, don't even bother. To the creator, I beg you to try and use your time to create something that people can find enjoyable, if you want to keep making ROM hacks.

Alright, I got it. But this was the only Sonic ROM Hack I've already made. I guess I'll made another one sooner or later.

Oh. But Sonic Troll 2 was a good name I though of. Next time I'll choose a good name for my next hack sooner or later.

That's how a trolling hard Kaizo hack works.

Thanks for your feedback! But once I got new ideas later, I'll made a fair another Sonic ROM Hack. but i promise that next hack project isn't sonic 1 or sonic 3 & knuckles

What Giovanni meant is that, he disagrees, and more so if one copy the tips from other hacks, it is a pity saw these things, if you going to do a hack in the future, from now on forget about taking ideas from other hacks

There is way more nuance to the discussion of borrowing ideas from other hacks. Ideas don't come from nowhere. Every game that's ever been made has been designed using the ideas of games that's come before it. In addition, ROM hacks are derivative works, meaning that any ideas are bound to be similar considering it's the same small collection of games being worked with. Even if ideas are directly taken from other hacks, that is not necessarily a bad thing. Jester's Challenge did the psychedelic maze thing first, but LSD Is Bad and Sonic Visual Maze each came and did their own thing with the idea. Even if ideas are the same execution are inevitably going to not be. That's not to say that there aren't wrong ways to take ideas. If someone were to look at something popular and take ideas from that purely because it would make their own thing popular with no intention to do anything unique with it, then that's a problem. However, that is not what's happening here and if it were to happen, I like to think it would be noticeable enough to be called out and end up being unsuccessful.

It's important that you don't set unnecessary guidelines because that could result in good ideas being thrown out and discouragement.

Joker, I see you repeatedly giving newcomers advice without stating your reasoning and sometimes that advice ends up being unfounded. For example, a couple weeks back you claimed that making your own source code public wasn't allowed, which was a claim I heard nowhere else and there was no justification for it in the post you made that claim in. The issue isn't just that you're wrong, but you're spreading misinformation directed at people who don't yet know the community well enough to debunk your claims. Because you don't explain your claims, they have to be taken at face value. All I ask for in the future is that you just take the time to explain yourself and reevaluate if what you're about to say is logical. If you are unsure, you can always discuss it with us on Discord.

I have no words, I agree with what Giovanni said. this hack is a waste of time, it is unplayable and the title is clickbait. take your time to fix it and come back when it is fixed.

    1) I'd already play Jester's Challenge a long time ago.
    2) Thanks for your LONG advice. I'll be more careful about that, and anything. (I almost forgot that I'm not Joker)

Alright, if I have new ideas about my next ROM Hack, I'll do something about it for better things and fair carefully, and to ensure not to be ended up twisted horribly or better like my current ROM Hack (Troll Sonic 2) ever again.

You completely misunderstood the point of my post. I never said that you should not copy ideas from hacks. In fact, I think that if you feel like you could give your own twist to an already existing idea, then you should go for it.

What I wanted to convey with my original post was that the hack itself was bad in quality. That's it. None of that "don't use other people's ideas" you somehow pulled out of thin air.

EDIT: Since the referenced post was moved to a different thread, this post no longer serves its purpose. The original text is as follows:

It seems you are already at work trying to create a new project. That's nice to know. However, I would recommend posting lone screenshots to the General Screenshot/Movie Thread. Make sure you always check what thread you're posting in: you don't want your post to end up in an unrelated thread.

Ironically, you misunderstood the post stating that someone had misunderstood my post. It was not directed to you, and you can tell by reading who wrote the quoted message.

NOTE: Because I introduced this hack on SSRC Discord Server again and get criticism from djohe and Trance and told me why almost no one will play this hack and why my gameplay video on YouTube only have two dislikes, I decide to temporarily unlist this video on YouTube but you can still watch this video here. I'll take indefinite hiatus on almost everywhere on the Internet until further notice. But now I changed my mind a bit and now that video is available public again.

    Hi, I'm back.

So, I attempted to do a Sonic 2 hack, after several attempts doing so in privately, and then I done a sprite editing hack.

Pleasant Goat UBTNG Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2
    [IMG]

Don't know about Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf, the Chinese animated series? It's time for this hack to star. In front of non-Chinese Sonic the Hedgehog fans.

It'll replaces the Tails sprites with the one shown on the picture above. But I've tried my best on a few hours. Don't be surprised and prepare to get the KEGA Fusion or GENS emulator to PLAY!!

And anyways, don't know how to say any furthermore, but hope you enjoy this little sprite hack!

    Screenshots

Did he just drive an helicopter?! Did he just have his own helicopter?! How?!

    Gameplay video

    Download

The hack folder contains a README file and a ROM file. And anyways, here's the download link

And also, the hack's full name is "Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf: Ultimate Battle The Next Generation's Miles "Tails" in Sonic the Hedgehog 2". (Remember to add that in your description if you want to post your gameplay of this hack on YouTube)

EDIT: Because of the mediocre Sonic - Project Regal hack, I changed my mind and now that download link has changed and the hack folder now includes my another Sonic 1 hack project, Troll Sonic 2: The Reckoning!

(NO. That TS2: TR isn't the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hack (or not, see above). Again.)

No further information about that hack project, but I recommended you should check it out first! (But first you should read the text file at the hack folder for further information) But unmastered players will be warned. And also, if you have saw that the entire SEGA screen is red on that hack, don't be panic and it'll be okay soon. But you can't uses Level Select cheat on that hack yet.

That's the hack nobody asked for.

Nobody knows about that guy. But I know his name was Doraemon (MY CHILDHOOD) and he was the Japanese manga star made by Fujiko. F. Fujio and he also have starred on Sega Genesis game (only released in Japan and Korea) too! So, I made this hack.

It's just not only replacing Sonic with that blue robot cat, but a few places on almost any acts on almost any zones were changed. The most noticeable thing is NO INVICIBILITY MONITORS. (Because Doraemon already have gadgets that can make user invisible, so he didn't need that monitor, except for a few times, such of Labyrinth Zone act 1)

    CHANGES

    • Replaces some of Sonic's sprites with Doraemon's from the Japanese-only Sega Mega Drive game (or unused Sonic sprites, see the Errors section below for details)
    • And again, changed/removes Invincibility monitors because Doraemon didn't need it anyways except for a few other situations (such of Labyrinth Zone act 3 or Scrap Brain Zone act 1)
    • Added shortcuts in Marble Zone Act 1 and Act 3

    ERRORS

I tested and checked that Doraemon's standing, looking, and walking sprites were fine, and running sprites were almostly fine, but there's errors as listed below.
    • Doraemon's running sprite seems glitched.
    • If jumped on a spring, Doraemon will instead uses Sonic's unused act clear pose
    • Doraemon's sprite will disappear for a while after getting hit, or collecting a bubble.
    • If Doraemon's get sucked or pushing an object, the sprites seems to be on messed order, while if you do latter it instead appears unused Sonic sprites.
    • And a few other sprites will instead shows other Sonic sprites. (including the ending, originally I wanna change it, but I couldn't because Flex2 program instead shows garbage sprites whatever no matter I tried)

    Proof for #3 and #4
    [IMG]

May those often happens on this hack because I was so busy on making the hack that nobody asked for.

    Program used
    • Flex2 (Sprites)
    • SonED2 (Level editing)
    Credits
    • Fujiko F. Fujio, Shogagukan, Shin-Ei Animation (it's almost fading into Toei), TV Asahi and etc. for the Doraemon character
    • Yawackhary for ripping the sprites and putting it on The Spriters Resource
    • Me for the making on this hack alone

    Download

I hope you have enjoyed this little sprite hack!

Some peoples call me to do the Sonic ROM hack but with dissembles and I finally did.
At least I did my best on the efforts alone.

This ROM hack is already available earlier on my Sonic 1 Forever mod folder which is similar to this ROM hack I made, but it was already taken down from GameBanana later due to legal reasons, (which has been reinstated without the ROM hack) and I put it on Discord server just for someone else (Trance) to play when asked for how to made a Sonic 1 Forever mod INI file, but he keeps "misunderstanding" what I said before he asked for my mod file, and I did that temporarily. Now that the ROM hack file was taken down already by me before recently now. I've found a correct person and he finally teach me how to made the INI file for my Sonic 1 Forever mod! Thanks Retro! ;)

Whoa! I did not expect this to happen on my end, but that seems pretty cool! Anyway, I just came here to see what is happening here in this community (which I do so often) and just recently came across this post that suddenly caught my eye on this. You know, it kind of reminds me of that similar hack that I was working on 3 years ago in 2018 and had been to this day and kind of similar to this, albeit a bit more refined and polished.

Although I have yet to try this hack myself (and pretty sure that most people here would not know what that character is), this seems really interesting for me to take a look at!

That said hack that I mentioned above all started in the beginning of 2018 as a simple music testing hack that replaced most of Sonic 1’s music with the music from the 1993 Mega Drive game called Doraemon - Yume Dorobouto 7 Nin No Gozansu, and later implemented voice samples from said game, and then into a full-on character hack a few months later.

This hack is essentially a simple character swap hack that replaces Sonic with Doraemon from the manga/anime series of the same name, complete with the music, voice clips, and Doraemon’s sprite set and palette closely replicating the ones from the source game that was mentioned above. There are also some custom sprites that I made for Doraemon himself, down to the life icon in the HUD.

Later on, I started creating four branches of the ROM hack that replaced Doraemon with one of the six members from the The Doraemons spin-off series, and just recently embedded those branches into one unified ROM hack that will soon contain all of the six members of the said spin-off series, as well as additional characters.

Well, to give it to you here, here is what those four ROM hack branches are about (These are listed in the order that I originally created these hacks):

Branch #1: Dora-rinho (from Brazil) in place of Doraemon
Branch #2: Dora-the-Kid (from the United States) in place of Doraemon
Branch #3: Wang Dora (from China) in place of Doraemon
Branch #4: El Matadora (from Spain) in place of Doraemon

Each of these hacks have custom sprites based off of Doraemon to resemble four of the six members from the The Doraemons spin-off series as mentioned before.

If you are unsure about what these characters are, see this Wikipedia page.

And hey! Bet you didn’t notice that I was the first to have ever come up with this idea (although it might not be the first time though, I may be wrong)!

NOTE: Oh, and one more thing that I wanted to ask: these hacks that I mentioned above are not released to the public as of yet, since I have been personally working on with them for a long while now. ROM hacking is one of the hobbies that I like, and will continue to do so in the future.

Also, even though this was my first post after a month of hiatus, I am writing this during my college session, hence why I did not put in enough information at the time I am writing this. I won’t get too personal about it, but I am quite busy with real life, so I won’t be checking in here that often for a while.

Don't forgot that I also made the Sonic 1 Forever mod which also very similar to my hack, but efforts put on that mod is far better than my hack did and I suggest you to check it out here. (Not spamming, I promise)

Here's the screenshot for the mod if you're interested:

The hack is now on widescreen and it's better than the hack!

This is the first time you see this happened. You'll never expect this happened...
    ......

And also, I hope that Razor and Zenon this time will play my recent ROM hack.

    Oh, and also...

Thanks for saying that. I don't know that you're the first people (if not the first) to have that idea too.

But my hack is simply about not only sprite replacement (which to be say to be less more refined and polished than yours) and little level modifications, but I didn't replaces any ingame music with that Genesis Doraemon ones and add any voice samples from that game, because 1) almost any Sonic character hacks have ingame music unchanged and I also follow the suit and 2) I didn't bother to rip any voice samples from that game because that would be virtually impossible for me to do so alone (I guess). And also, I don't think there's custom sprites for Doraemon yet like the life icons, so I kept it unchanged as Sonic's.

I don't care about Doraemon's sprite palette on my hack and I feel like it, since it wasn't for me to do anything about it.

And also, have a good day. I'll be taking indefinite hiatus now.
