    But you managed to get the objects to switch the characters, yes?

    Yes, I think it would be excellent to have different loading screens for all three characters, but I also think that the colors for Tails and Knuckles are each too similar to the yellow and red in the other two parts of that screen.

    When you play it in full screen, you don't actually notice it. I could change the colour of the yellow and red, but what to? As it must stick to Sonic's palette.

    It’s about time that I show another update.











    The first level (EHZ) is pretty much done. I’ve decided to make act 2 a straight to boss act. The boss will feature more hits to destroy, no rings feature, and change in little different ways to try and make it harder. Let’s take a look at this boss.

    Ah, here is the Eggman with his new look. This was Ordos’ old sprites so thanks to him for letting me use these. This shouldn’t be too hard to destroy this machine...

    Shit, I died. Hm, I’m going to have to be careful when he pops up!












    Well, that’s the end of the Eggman boss at the moment. Let’s show some new objects.

    Did you want to give up looking for the emerald for now? Or did you pick the wrong character? Then hit this object to go back to the level select!

    This is the warp object. As you can see, the barrier is there, not letting you access to the end of the act. Reason being is because you have NOT found the emerald yet. So you MUST go back and find it. If you can’t be assed to go back, you can hit this object. This will send you straight to the beginning if you wanted to start from there. Now, I need your opinions. You can either have this object:






    - Restart the level so you end up at the beginning of the level (not losing a life)






    - Do the same thing 2player does (when you die in 2player, the screen goes all the way to the beginning (or last checkpoint). Again, you do not lose a life.






    At the moment, it is doing the 2player way, but if you prefer option 1, please let me know.

    Yup, you can now have the options of Knuckles alone, or Knuckles and Tails!

    Remember the sprite Tails did when you press B in mid air, Tails would stop flying? He just did a rolling sprite, but I did my own sprite and he now looks like this. Thanks for SMTP and Shobiz telling me how to port him doing this, but it never worked guys. Why? I have no fucking clue. But I duplicated animation 29 as 2A so two are exactly the same. 29 aren’t quite right but 2A is perfect.












    Let us move onto the second level. This is far, far, far from done as I’ve only just started it. Let’s take a look at it so far.

    Hey, new and improved lightning effects! What a result!












    Now, this was a big bastard to do, but it is finally working. After me and SMTP failing, SMTP gave me an idea to try. I tried it and it was kind of working. After I tweaked a few places and brushed up on little things, it finally works and the background is done.

    This is the new level select background. Pretty much the same as Sonic Advance 3. 512 8x8s there alone in the background with 32 frames (2 frames per split-second) to give it a nice smooth scrolling effect.












    I’ve also done some music changes. The level select plays 2player results music (will be changing soon, just temporarily), the lightning level plays MCZ2player music. The boss’ music plays S3K mini boss music. Invincibility plays S3 invincibility music and got the S3K Game Over music as well, but not duplicated.












    Also, two extra characters have been added to the game. These will be un-lockable characters. You un-lock the first one by completing the game with Sonic, Tails or Knuckles (S&T or S&K go as well). You can then un-lock the second character by completing the game with the first un-lockable. After completing the game with the second character, there will be a secret level un-locked; just for Sonic. And when that is done, debug can then be available.












    In the options menu, the first selection is your character selection, but I’m planning on making the second option a time-up setting. You can either have it on or off, seeming as it is an emerald hunting game, you may want it off to make the game easier. The third option will be a debug setting, although this will always be set to off until the game is complete 100% (see above).












    That does remind me, does anyone know how to stop Time Over? I’ve actually managed to stop the minutes on the clock going up (0:58 0:59 0:00 0:01...) although Time Over still occurs.

    Note: These animated gifs may be a little slower than the game, like the bgscrolling. It's a lot better than what you see.

    As I said over at Sonic Retro, amazing. The palette on one of those foregrounds as Knuckles needs to be fixed a little though.

    For the time over, in loc_40DDA, there are two lines:

    Comment the bottom line out to disable time overs.

    Possibly both, actually.

    Made some art improvements to the lightning level.

    To make the foreground a little better, there will be broken bricks like shown here. I will make completely broken bricks soon (so you can see the background through the foreground).

    One last edit, the boss again. Yo know Eggman has changed his looks, and so has his explosions; Sonic Advance 3 styles. I have also managed to make it explode nuts and bolts!

    Nice idea with the nuts and bolts thing.


    I think they used it in SR:A for regular enemies. But good getting it working on s2.


    I'm looking forward to playing this.

    Also, perhaps Green for knuckles titlecard? (like in S2K)

    Knuckles following Sonic, and I did it myself, yay!

    His palette is the best I can get it, due to the lack of shades. A few of Sonic's clours are still wrong (continue, life icon, sign post and his dash, but will sort that out soon).


    Every red now looks pailer, even Eggman! But they look fine.


    EDIT: Forgot to say, thanks to Ordos for a program that helped swap Knux's bytes, and saving me drawing it again.

    Maybe you can use the 4th Sonic color (What you are currently using as a green) for Knuckles 3rd color?

    I need the green though. Plus I'm using the 3rd Sonic colour, as Sonic uses the fourth one.
