this is quite interesting how you tried to restore the unused s3 sprites and use them in sonic 1. nice work from what I can see and looking foward to seeing this in a demo release or so :)

The surfing sprites use Sonic 2 style, are you going to fix that? Also I've never thought that Sonic really look right in Ristar levels, the perspective is off...

Yeah, the sprite shading is really different. And the floor perspective in Ristar gives to its levels a 3D appearance, so it wouldn't fit into Sonic. Also, the bluest background doesn't fit with the very green I see in the foreground. But this still being awesome. How you're using Sonic 3's unused frames, I suggest you to put Angel Island or some Sonic Advance in the foreground. The background is okay, though.

I really do agree, EK. The Ristar foreground looks like Sonic is floating a bit in air. You gotta change it.

Something that may not be Special, but, I imported and tried out the tiles from Soned2 Example folder (by replacing SLZ to SIZ) :(

Now how can I import a background to a chunk?

do I have to use the PCX image and load it to Soned2? (it sometimes crashes like shit)

Here, I explain you how to import your custom BG.

Firstly, this may contain bad grammar, please sorry it

To do this, first, the chunk must have the size 256x256 pixels, create it in bmp first

    Download IrfanView

Decrease the color image to 16 colors

Now, increase to 256 colors (yeah, Its because we need some order in the internal palette in the image)

    Save it in PCX

    Import the chunk with SonED2

For the palettes, open the palette importer, and in the table:

Source ID: 0 Num Entries: 16 and the Dest ID, can define the palette row. 0 is the 1st, 16 is the 2nd 32 is the 3rd and 48 the 4th. You must not import the colors in the first and second row, because is used by sonic, the rings or other objects; oh, and don't use the row used for the FG chunks XD.

Click in Select the image and import, select the PCX which contains your bg, and profit

And for the FG, this not looks nice for a zone such as green hill, it looks nice for a zone such as marble or labyrinth :(

I'm not sure Stealth is ok with people using that level in a hack. I think it's only for an example.

Thanks, I'll go try that out.

Well, I'll go ask him, is he online?

I can't let my 2 hour layout work come to waste D:

    EDIT:

Can you tell him that if is ok for me to use the Example Files from Soned2?

i'm unable to contract him, even in Youtube (Friend Lock)

If you're afraid to contact him or even try to ask or engage in some form of conversation to get an answer, then the answer by default should be no. I wouldn't go about using that until you actually have his expressed permission.

Still, I didn't know you could switch out the example file in SonED 2 with an actual zone file, that's pretty cool.

You should probably get Stealth's permission though... :(

I think it: Program launched publically + Example included = Example launched publically

The way I see this whole thing about the "Shining Island" example is this...even if it "was" free for use, why would you want to use it for a final level design in your hack? A fair number of people are already familiar with it. Plus, it just promotes laziness on the hacker's end. Go for something a little more original.

Holy blatant use of Mettrix art Batman! I think it goes without saying that you're not supposed to use that art in your hack, especially when people can tell what it is.

OK, So I contacted Stealth, and he said "My impression is that that zone is from Mettrix", a.k.a. in other words; "No, you cannot use that".

I've seen you do some things recently that look quite interesting and well executed, but my trust for you gets deceived by acts of arrogancy like this. If you don't have the decency to at least ask, how are you expected to be taken seriously as a good and valuable member (or even project owner)?
