This is a Sonic 2 modification with new graphics, layouts and music. I'm gonna post it because I think it's decent enough as is:

DOWNLOAD (Old versions + 2012 public release)

    Credits:

    • MarkeyJester, Spanner - miscellaneous changes on the game code
    • Tweaker, Roxahris - music contributions
    • Everyone who made specific ROM hacking tools - Naming everyone would be a tad difficult. Either way, several hacking utilities saved a LOT of time, and without them, I wouldn't be making a hack of this complexity.
If I'm missing anyone else, please tell me.

    Current state: Cancelled

I decided to update this post, as some people were looking forward for seeing more of this hack. Unfortunately, Sonic Tribute is permanently cancelled, making the 2012 version the "final" version of this hack. I decided that there's far better things I can (and must) spend my time on. This project requires that I put way too much effort into it, with little results...

Again, there's not much following for this hack, but some people were interested and I felt like it was a responsible action to inform them and not let them waiting with irrealistic expectations.

Gah, the hack that came one spot higher than mine. Fair credit, this game for two levels is pretty decent. Especially Seaside Palace, you really did well with that. Everything about it is so beautiful.

I played this and I loved it. I'd hate to see yet another brilliant hack end up stuck in a permanent hiatus.

    Repeated songs will be fixed...

Songs that aren't spot on (which is most of them) will be removed and replaced by better tunes in later releases.

So far, I'm really liking this hack. The art style was nice-looking, but I think what I liked the most is the level design (despite a few dickish moments and confusing paths) and music. I also think this hack would benefit from giving Tails his flying ability. And I'm going to sound very nitpicky here, but I also believe that Seaside Palace should be shorter if you're trying to go for a Sonic 2 feel. That level feels more like Sonic 3 because of its size.

But anyways, great job. Can't waiit to see more!

I absolutely love this hack. It's just so awesome and a real shame you can't finish it but real life has to come first.

This is like, one of my favorite hacks, man. But will you be continuing with this? It seems like a project worth it. And this might seem stupid, but could you maybe release a midi of Sonic Drive, and South Island?

This is one of the very few hacks out there that looks, sounds, and plays very well, the bonus behind it is how well it's polished and put together, it's a rather unique and different hack to the rest, and that is why I'm disappointed to see it dropped.

I respect your reasoning for it though, and I will surely keep a close eye on future projects you might throw at us, good luck!

If anyone offered to finish this hack, then what would you say? I'm not offering, just asking.

I think the deed is done. The creator isn't going to meddle with something like this. The hack is better set for archives at this point.

As much as I'd like to see this finished, I can understand where you two are coming from. Guess it's headed to the archives.

I played it and really liked, nice artwork and it was good to see a 2D Seaside hill, shame its cancelled but I can tell this kind of hack takes a lot of effort. I also liked the Japanese Sonic X theme as an invincibility jingle, nice touch.
