Looking good LooneyDude! I can't try it right now because of laptop issues preventing me from downloading anything but it's refreshing to see a hack like this with so many nice art changes! Good luck with it! It looks like a lot of fun to play too! :)

Thank you! When it comes to hacks, I think art helps give them personality and identity, that set them apart from others, y'know?

EDIT: For act 2 of Crystal Cave Zone, I'll use Planet Undertow music. I know it's cliche to use that song, and it's really wierd since I might make that the only zone with an alternate act song, but ever since I started this hack, I wanted to use that song.

Sorry for the double-posting (again) but I just whipped up a new release of Sonic Zoom with some flashy new features, including:

    • DIFFERENT PALETTES FOR EACH ACT! HORRAY! Even though it's only in Glazed Grass Zone and Chaos City Zone, it's been something I've been wanting to implement for a while, and I finally did it.
    • A tad bit of work in Casino Crisis Zone.
    • Crystal Cave Act 2 has been started.
    • Sonic has new graphics for swallowing a bubble.
    • Crystal Cave Act 2 plays Planet Undertow music (cliche to use in a Sonic hack, but I like it).
    • After getting a Game Over, instead of taking you to a glitchy Sega screen, it takes you to the Sonic Team Presents screen.
    • Like always, possibly other stuff that I forgot to mention.
    Here ya go: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m01heq68hp9u5mh/s1built.bin?dl=1

EDIT: For all you Regen users (and maybe people who use a real Genisis, I'm not really sure if you had this problem), the crash at the Chaos City Zone boss has been fixed! If you wanna thank anyone, thank the spectacular MarkeyJester for this. This new rom also includes a new palette cycle for Glazed Grass Zone Act 3 and a few tweaked graphics.

    This is a solid hack.

Besides a bucket load of nit-picks, I feel what we have is a great hack. Though, I feel the only "big" things I feel you should change is that, first, I feel the back-round is really boring and bland, and scondly, I feel you should chance Eggmans appearence a little bit. Because I don't know about anyone else, but Eggy here just feels... Off.

    :)

Alright, but could you be a bit more specific? Which backgrounds are bland? And what should I change about Eggman?

EDIT: Oh, your icon is Kooper! I love the first Paper Mario!

Tried the first 3 zones... wanna save the rest for a playthrough. I like everything except for the Star Light level... Especially the boss. That boss has some great potential... but you gotta do some more work to it. I beat it simply by staying on the middle spring and not doing much else.

Other than that, I'm liking this hack.

    Uhh...thank you?

Sorry, but there's a bit of language divide here, but I can sorta see what you're saying, and thank you! Markey also mentioned how Sonic is a bit like Mickey Mouse in this hack.

Ugh, I don't want this topic to get old due to lack of posts, but I don't like doubleposting.

Anyways, I've got some work to do before the next update. I don't want you to suffer through every single modification, but I'm posting to tell you progress may be slower now since I've been working on the graphics for Robotnik Returns, and I've been working HARD:

So, I've been multitasking a bit, but I haven't neglected Sonic Zoom. I'll probably have an update up soon, but I don't wanna rush things.

Once again, I'm blown away by some of the things you added. I love how you edited the text headers for the zone titles (especially the Sonic has passed text :D) To skip the obvious, I'll just point out a few nitpicks I had:

The Starlight bombs can be killed, but they'll still explode after they've been killed, spawning deadly explosion particles out of thin air

Hectic speedway act 3's upper path in the beginning of the level has lots of orbinauts in a speed section, resulting in a mess of dick moves

I see that death pit is still right before the boss : Try putting a chunk that you have to platform over, kinda of like what you did with glazed grass zone's boss

Something about the way rings spread out when your injured seems off... on the right side, a big clump of rings tend to stick to the same y-axis before despawning

I fell through the floor in Casino Crisis Zone:

I fell through by just running, a crusher didn't just push me through the floor. In other words, check the chunk collision here.

The Labyrinth edits' act 2 ends in a wall. Even if the layout is incomplete, I like to allow the player to theoretically play through the game without level select, just to simplify the playing experience, and allow for more complete play testing. And I can pass up an opportunity to say how much I adore this zone :'3

The long drowning time makes the gimmick virtually non-existent. I beat act 1 before it was even physically possible for me to drown. If your gonna keep it, keep it as a challenge that at least can be presented. I'd personally recommend making act 2 and underwater maze with few to no bubbles, so that drowning can actually occur (but heck, I love vanilla labyrinth zone, so that's probably just me :)

Your Molten madness chunks need a collsion checkup. I stopped in mid-spin for no reason, and the caterkillers are just sad looking in some areas.

I fell through lava into a death pit. What is this, Super mario bros? (If so, I get the reference :3)

I was disappointed that Frantic Factory still appears to be unchanged, beyond the addition of a single eggman monitor and the removal of some extremely annoying crushers. Not much to say as a result...

SBZ3 still looks like Crystal Cave Zone had a seizure. If you have any ideas for it, at least make it playable, like I mentioned earlier. Otherwise, remove it from the level select for clarification that it will be removed. I do understand that you haven't gotten around to editing SBZ, though, so don't take that to heart if you want to perfect the rest of the game, first.

And that's it! I couldn't imagine juggling two hacks and a life, so for the love of all that is wonderful, keep up your fantastic work!

In that place when you bounce on the water, you could add rewards, such as: Life monitors, Speed shoes, Invincibility and Shields. Also, you could add secrets or shorcuts. That's what I have to say, anyway, nice job on this hack.

I knew. I've been trying to fix it, but I don't know how.

I'll probably go back and fix it.

I thought the ring monitor was enough. Oh well. I'll add it soon.

I tried to port Dimps ring loss, but since GitHub works differently, I guess it screwed stuff up.

I have no idea what that's about, but I'll check that out.

That wall wasn't even placed there on purpose actually, but I'll change it.

I'll shorten Sonic's air time. Also, what's Vanilla Labyrinth Zone?

Yeah, the collision is weird, and I'll try to check how to fix it.

I just didn't cover it yet.

I'm saving that zone for last to make it the magnum opus.

    That's a good idea.

EDIT: I'm in the process of fixing these, and when fixing the "went throught the floor bug" in Casino City, and that's when I truly noticed Sonic 1's LRB Solid fetish.

OK, I fixed the problems you guys had (except the bomb one), and made a few more changes:

    • Special Stage doesn't say "Svecial Stage".
    • I completed Crystal Cave Zone Act 2.
    • Some graphics have been changed.
    • Probably more stuff and I just forgot.
However, instead of removing incomplete levels in the level select, I just put Xs next to the incomplete ones, similar to the Sonic 1 prototype level select.

    Here's the rom: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m01heq68hp9u5mh/s1built.bin?dl=1

EDIT: Oops, I forgot the Molten Madness Zone collision. That's next on my list of what to change.

It might just be me, but Aqua Lake seems like a really weird choice for a Game Over theme, and I dont know how

Well, I'll give you my thoughts on this. I like the art style you picked for each level. The music fits well with the levels, and I like the sprites you made for Sonic. It makes him look younger. But I manged to fall through the floor on Casino City 1.

Other then that, I really like your rom hack and hope that you continue to work on it.

What music did you use for CCZ act 1? I need to add it to my playlist :)

Sky High Zone, but I like nineko's version better because it adds a soft instrument playing notes that are something like A B G F.

New version! It's on the front page. This has changes like:

    • SPECIAL STAGE IS BALLS NOW
    • New graphics here and there.
    • Completed Casino City Act 1.
    • Started Casino City Act 2.
    • Probably more stuff that I forgot about.

Anyways, any feedback is good, and if you have a problem, I'll try to fix it.
