    Eggrobo and Mecha Sonic have delivered a chain letter to Knuckles. It contained the following message: "Send this letter to ten friends of yours, otherwise you'll be paralised and won't be able to walk left or right". Since Knuckles doesn't have this much friends, he (in his desire to restore his normal walking abilities) goes on an adventure to kick their robotic butts.

     Changes:

    • The left and right buttons are disabled for walking, running, movements during the jump and gliding;
    • Character select is disabled;
    • The title screen is changed;
    • The player is given 50 lives in the beginning;
    • The "Start" button kills Knuckles;
    • Some levels are removed due to glitches in cutscenes.

    This hack is inspired by our Broken D-Pad Challenge.

    That was veeery challenging thing. It took a long time when I understood how to move (I thought Spin Dash is disabled also), but I couldn't beat first act anyhow. I liked it so much, thanks!

    I like it. It looks interesting, and has a pretty original idea.

    If you thought Sonic & Knuckles' stages were hard, you will find this almost impossible!

    Anyway, I get that Knuckles goes through the same routes for a reason, but honestly, I would like to see custom layouts or palettes.

    Other than that, this shows promise. Keep it up! :D

    I can get to Sky Sanctuary Zone, and then this keeps happening:

    [IMG]

    I'm off screen to the left, but as this is a scripted scene, I can't do anything and Knuckles never walks in from off screen.

    I think it has to do with me abusing a trick to turn around: Spindash next to a wall (object, chunk or screen) and hold the opposite direction. Let go and you'll stop immediately but turn around to face the other way.

    This was quite interesting to play through, though. Utilising Knuckles' tricks to progress is quite a unique idea and although you had to edit a few parts here and there to accommodate, it's surprising how much can be played without left/right input.

    EDIT: Just finished watching your video and I can see that's as far as you can go. Never mind, then.

    Actually http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64AHY1MV54o. It was a bummer that disabling left and right buttons in some places brakes scripted events.

    I'm unsure how S3K handles this, but you could not disable the D-Pad in the way that you're doing, and just have the game hold them down and not accept any more input. I'm sure there's another way of doing this. Perhaps adding a check to see if there's a cutscene and releasing controls?

    This hack makes me love the old Spin Dash even more.

    I'm just glad to see Sonic 3 & Knuckles get some love for once.

    seen this & was like "Challenge accepted." so I tried MHZ & kept either getting stuck (bouncing on mushrooms for infinity or start to die) or dying. took me a short while to see spindash is still available. but that didn't help

    Short hack but good, this is a prime example that only a few tweaks to a sonic rom can make a whole new and in some cases like this one, a challenging experience.

    This is such a big challenge and I really like the idea of the hack. I think I'll never beat it.
