I personally think the fact that theres a waterfall into a beach/desert into a river is kinda weird. As in the whole concept of it. I would either switch the sand and the river together, so it looks like the waterfalls flows to it more like an ocean, to a shore line, to a forest.(where the grass is) I could make a mock up if you want.

NeoFusionBox, most of the other comments sum up how I feel but I'll also say that it's a bit too busy.

As a background, it doesn't seem to know what it wants to do. It's got a waterfall, a beach/desert/swamp, a forest and a skyline.

The random water above and below the beach/desert/swamp area also doesn't work well as it appears disjointed.

The water below actually looks like clouds whereas the skyline looks empty.

    Hello Everyone!

My school was cancelled today so spent the day working on my hack and I finally got something presentable.

    I present to you...

Marble Garden Zone in Sonic 1

This is being used as a replacement of Star Light Zone in my hack. Most of the layout is intact although only the top half of the zone is there. Because of this I edited some of the layout so the bottom of the screen meets up with the top of the screen properly. The background is messed up because I used GHZ's background deform code (REV00) and I didn't bother to keep repeating the background so I used a chunk for the rest of the background because plain black is boring. The background music is a butchered port of ICZ Act 2 but I kept it because it sounded funky.

Please feel free to give feedback and suggestions.

Edit: Can someone please show me how to add YouTube videos to this thread? I expected an option to add one but I can't find it.

Edit 2: Never mind. I didn't think it would be that simple.

I take it you've never seen Sonic 2 or 3.

Sonic 3's level select is too hard to get into and Sonic 2 requires a code to get into the level select. I'm sure he's either surprised that I got Sonic 2's level select into Sonic 1 (which he shouldn't be because I used a guide) or he really hasn't known Sonic 2 or 3 long enough to know about their level selects.

How do you like the music?

I'm not fond of the palette much, but the new checkard brick design is a nice touch (when seeing it up close).

    Keep up the good work!

Focus in level name isn't important thing at momment, focus more in your level design and layout.

OK, Bagumba, I'll provide some feedback:

    • The palette looks a little muddy. The shading has been changed but not in a good way. You need to consider both the foreground and background shades for the ground/mountains.
    • A lack of use of object 44 (Green Hill Zone wall object). Look into how object 44 is used in the original and how you can use to it "fix" cut off on chunks and areas that lack shading. (The object was created for this reason.)
    • The change to Sonic's palette doesn't work and it now looks like he's all 1 shade of blue.
    • Already broken monitor in a tree. Either you've placed too many monitors in the level, haven't set the remember state flag or used the wrong sub id.
    • Placing a lamp post in the middle of a loop like that (especially with way too many rings) can have serious issues if someone dies and comes back there. It also looks wrong.
    • Putting a single spike after this loop, before the exit of that ramp, is a terrible dick move for Act 1 of Green Hill Zone and has no place being there. Remove it.
    • Don't have death pits in Act 1 of Green Hill Zone either. It's not needed, is unfair to the player and sets the tone of the rest of the hack in a light that's hard to shake off.
    • More questionable death pits with platforms over them...
    • Very odd end of level music.
    • Also, a random note but your use of rings is strange to me. There's nothing wrong with it, per sé, it's just strange seeing a line of rings in one area and then none for about 10 seconds.
The above are the opinions of myself. I apologise for being blunt and honest about it but that's just how I am.

You know the queries about making objects collide in S3+K that I've been badgering relentlessly about? Well to show at least something came from it :p
