    1. No matter how I save, it didn't work. That's why I didn't want to uses SonLVL again and instead uses SonED2.
    2. Honestly, I just want to help improve your hack with my touches! I'll credit your name if I was able to complete my touches!
    3. I see you as never learned, as "proven" by your post on your Sonic 1 World hack thread. No matter how anyone scolds you, you'll never improve and see your "a bit of improves" as major improvement and far better than what you previously did. And also, if your "garbage" is praised by a fool, you'll be damned if without caution and controlling yourself though, mind and heart well. And if you hiring many more talents to show off their work and you also join them, if without caution it only left off errors and goofs as almost anyone can point it out. (See Sonic 06 or DBS anime episode 5's bad animation for understand what I mean)
Oh, and sorry about that, Giovanni.

You don't understand how hard it is. People these days suspect quality like Sonic 3 levels in Sonic 1 with layout and all.
Or its because its one person or that I'm heartbeating fast or something. Idk, but I just make hacks for fun and want to make them fun and stuff. (I'm improving, even if its slow)

So... a few days before I checked the news about Sonic Colors Ultimate glitches so I got a bad idea.

Thus the worst Sonic 2 Hack ever was made in the year of 2021.

This hack is based off the glitches of SCU, but don't worry it doesn't cause seizures as I didn't expected. I again used non-dissemble Sonic ROM hacking programs such of ESEII but just to made this ROM hack.

    Features
    • Emerald Hill Zone, Aquatic Ruins Zone, Casino Night Zone and Mystic Cave Zone were changed with different palettes (for example, S2 Beta CNZ palette for S2 Final CNZ on this hack) and as well as S2 Beta Hidden Palace Zone collision data were set on those zone to create new glitches around this. So good luck trying to get around this, but I've modified those zones to make it beatable while kept most of it unchanged. (For example, some monitors in MCZ were replaced with 1UP ones)
    • Sonic and Tails' palette were now blue, but it will affect some things such of HUD
    • Tails now useless (as a "Take That, Scrappy!" thanks to Patafoin and as well as his "Tails kept Sonic alive" sprite animation series for inadvertently gaving me this idea)
    • The demo were now consisting of only an unused zone in ten minutes.
    • Only Emerald Hill Zone were have music swapped.
    • Only Chemical Plant Zone were have palette edited.
    • Boss hits were changed depending on the zone.
    • Hill Top Zone were skipped, and after beating MCZ the game will resets. But you can still access the rest of the zones with Level Select.
    Programs used
    • Esrael Sonic Editor II (for level editing, palette editing, and importing stuffs, and etc. which is easier for beginners, and if used on modify Sonic 2 ROMs it can import zone chunks, collision, palette, and layouts from unmodified Sonic ROMs (except Sonic 2 Nick Arcade) on a S2 Zone, but please important that if uses carelessly (such of importing something on Chemical Plant Zone), it will crash no matter what you do after that unless you have delete the ROM hack; remember, make a backup ROM before that happens)
    • Sonic Tweaker (for editing boss hits, Tails' movement, and as well as demo)
    Screenshots
    [IMG]

    Did you know
    • Emerald Hill Zone was originally to be renamed to "Glitched Hill Zone", but I decide to kept it unchanged.
    • Originally the thread should be on "Random hack/Mini project thread", but it should be deserved on getting a separate thread.
    • Also, originally the hack should be on Sonic Hacking Contest 2021 EXPO, but it was scrapped because this hack is made based off the glitches of Sonic Colors Ultimate.
    • Can you try beat that hack without using the Debug Mode...? This'll make if Eggman/Robotnik have laid a plan centering on Debug Mode to trap the hedgehog at all. (It just a joke, but again I suggest you try beat that Sonic ROM hack without using the Debug mode)
    Download
Enjoy the hack, and that's the download link here.

And anyways, enjoy the hack, if you encounter any problems on that hack then it's because I made a hack based off the bugs and glitches from SCU, and again. And also remember, notify me when some gamers such of Razor & Zenon or Jaypin88 play this hack and recorded their gameplay of it and put on YouTube.

Then I'll take indefinite hiatus from being online after a day.

EDIT: I'll always check and accept your critique on me and as well as my recent Sonic ROM hack here, so I guess that this thread will probably turned into a drama thread sooner or later.

What on earth did I play?

Just because a game's remake had way too many glitches doesn't mean you need to make a poor joke hack via limiting tools (didn't you see my list of recommended tools? Why didn't you try them out?)

Sure, people may argue about Xenowhirl remaking the physics of Sonic Genesis on an MD ROM, but that was executed and portrayed well, unlike what you've presented. I don't expect Razor and Zenon or anyone else to play this (despite their greed for content) since they don't want their viewers to spend their time watching... whatever that was.

I'm really sorry to say this but this isn't worth your time making and publishing this or anyone's time playing this. This is a hack that's full of negatives and I'm not going to list them, the screenshots can tell you the issues. You can do a lot better than that~

I really don't know where to start. Oh, wait, yes I do. Why? Why do this? It's not funny. It's just painful. It's like a worse version of a hack that has been around for decades (Sonic 1337), and that's saying something.

You want to know what's more annoying, though? I've been trying to get people to see that, even with outdated tools such as ESII and Sonik Sprite, you can make a good project. Your options are limited, sure, but I know that some interesting things could come out of those tools, as I've done so myself. And then, you go and drop this on us. I really appreciate the effort to undermine that effort. I really do.

I was going to go in depth on the positives and negatives of such a project (as I am usually prone to do), but no. This hack doesn't deserve my time. It doesn't deserve anyone's time. It's a shallow attempt at implementing a few glitches from another, completed unrelated game into Sonic 2. And it even fails at that. There are no redeeming qualities about this whatsoever. It's just not fun or funny.

Yeah, I know that glitches from Sonic Colors: Ultimate (mainly the seizures) can be painful, but if you want to call my recent Sonic ROM hack worser than worst hacks such of Sonic 1337, I accept your words, you can make up of what you will.

Good job on completely missing the point of my post.

Yes, I called it out for being as bad as it is. If you don't like it, you can leave and go somewhere else. It is worse than Sonic 1337; that hack's entire premise was to be a silly, tongue-in-cheek look at Sonic hacks and make a joke about the whole thing. Whereas you have taken glitches from another game and tried to add them (not very accurately) into a completely unrelated game. Which is bizarre. And then, you credit the tools that helped you make this masterpiece, which only goes against showing the strengths these tools have.

I mean, what sort of response did you honestly expect? Wow, this hack is amazing, 10/10? I don't understand what you were trying to achieve here, and instead, I just feel like you're pulling some outdated tools through the mud.

Yeah... I don't mean to expect the good response such of the example you said, I'm just making hacks not for fame or something, just for simple fun only, and also, not for 10/10 points or five star either. And also, I didn't want to achieve anything on my desired good. If you say I can leave and go somewhere else, I can only pull a only further response: being on hiatus indenfintely. But don't worry, I'm a nice guy and I don't hate you either nor I'll have my revenge on you, so don't have any doubts on me.

But literally. So that would be my last Sonic ROM hack I ever made. I still have one to go (it supposed to be release on October), but I don't submit it because if you called my recent hack bad as it is, then my already made-ROM hack will always be bad-to-meh as it was, honestly, I admitted.

And yeah, I pulling some outdated tools out the mud as you said, that wouldn't be my habit anymore as I started how to make a Sonic ROM hack with dissambleys and programs such of SonED2 or Flex2 and not still being a beginner, except for my recent Sonic ROM hack. Also, I know that Razor & Zenon will not playing my hack as I expected them to do, but I've already expected that they wouldn't also play my recent ROM hack too, then you're right. And I'll always accept critique on me and as well as my Sonic ROM hacks.

So the hack I downloaded wasn't even a Sonic 2 hack but a Sonic 1 hack. Why did you change the download link and not even bother mentioning that you changed it? I can see that no effort was made into the Sonic 2 hack by the screenshots you provided but the Sonic 1 hack seems just like a generic Kaizo hack with some bad palettes on the Sega/title screen.

    Sonic 2 QP

    And yes.

In this hack, I made Sonic faster and now he can also glitches out zones. Unfortunately... he can't spindash!

I also skipped Sky Chase Zone and Wing Fortress Zone (yet the latter can be accessible in Level Select) due to being unbeatable in this hack. And also Sonic's lives has been increased to 9 in this hack! And also, bosses are now only take one-to-two hit to down!

And for other things I couldn't know how to describe, but if you don't want to get stuck on some parts of some zones, please be carefully!

This hack is inspired by Sonic 1 - Over 9000 by EditChris on SSRG.
(This hack is originally named "Sonic 2 OP", but then I decided to misspell the "O" letter as "Q".)

And again, this hack is made on ESEII and Sonic Tweaker. I've again returned from hiatus but for a brief time and made another Sonic ROM hack. And again, this hack is made for fun.

EDIT: Razor & Zenon now have already played this hack in their gameplay! Someone have backup my ROM hack!

Download link now removed and attached the ROM hack file due to mod staff "pressure"

We gave you good tips as a community to improve your hacking skills, for crying out loud, yet you still refused to listen. If you're still going to use ESEII and Sonic Tweaker to make ROM hacks, what's the point in making Sonic ROM hack nowadays, whereas people use disassemblies and valuable tools such as SonLVL and Flex2. What I've played isn't a "fun hack". It was a waste of time. Sonic can easily break boundaries and get soft locked in a few levels.

I'm going to say this one last time: Stop using ESEII, it's very limiting, and you can do little to nothing to a stock ROM. Start using modern tools and disassembled, and don't send any more ROM hacks unless you took your time through it and learnt how to use modern tools. (believe me, remaking your hack in a disassembly takes 5 minutes, maybe less) If you struggle to get them set up, ask us here since we've had experience using them before.

... alright. I've already made a Sonic ROM hack using disassemblies tools. But I'll return to indefinite hiatus from SSRG Forums. Good bye. :(

Hi, guess who's back? Oh, I'm ExtremeBehavior.

After returning on hiatus (from SSRG) today, I'm back today but just for showcasing my new Sonic 2 hack.

It was quickly on this day because my computer mouse is malfunctioning (because of a broken wire probably) and thus I couldn't uses computer indefinitely until my computer mouse can get a replacement. It was supposed to return on April Fools Day of the next year...

And anyways, this hack, inspired by Sonic 1 - Return to the Origin hack made by carretero, Sonic and Tails must run through the zones backwards, trying to get to the beginning to beat the place.

However, it is now that only the first act of the first three zones were playable. But it is now have its unique features too. (It's not that special though)

But I have only one screenshot to showcase my recent hack.
    FEATURES
    • Now that only the first act of the first three zones were playable, but now the zone order are in reverse, and the zone names were now spelling in reverse! (As shown in the picture above) Sonic and Tails must get to the beginning of a act of a zone to broke a Egg Capsule where it was placed there!
    • And also some texts is written in backwards. Of course, this also includes the hack name and file name.
    • Zones were modified mainly to replace or remove things to fit the purpose of this hack. Also, the music of Chemcial Plant Zone were also changed too!
And I guess that's all probably. But it also includes a alternate version of this hack ("tsaF ooT", is a reverse spelling of "Too Fast") with the same insane powers from my previous hack "Sonic 2 QP" (which does played by Razor and Zenon a few weeks ago, as shown here), want to try it?

    NOTES

    • Like Sonic 1 - Return to the Origin, this hack was made with Esrael Sonic Editor II and Sonic Tweaker, but since my hack is not made in hexadecimal modifications, so I replaced signposts with capsules and currently only the first act of first three zones were modified and playable.
    • "(C) 1992 SEGA" is now "(C) 1992 SEG", missing "A".
    • I changed the demos because Sonic will instead dies on EHZ1 demo if unmodified, just because AI Sonic and Tails will go right instead of left, so they died after entering a uncollisioned wall.
    • Loops weren't working at first, so you'll fall and end up in a certain point of a zone.
    • Except for the first act of the first three zones, if you select almost any other places other than those I said in level select it'll reset the game. (I purposed did that)
    • It is unknown if EHZ1 is playable or not if played on 2P VS Mode... I dunno, but you should test it out at your risk.
    • Originally the "Ruins" of Aquatic Ruin Zone should be reversed spelling like "sniuR", but I want to add a BIONICLE reference (inspired by a Hamtaro/BIONICLE fanfic title "Mata Nui, What is That?") so I instead spell it like "Nui".
    • "hteaD" is a reverse spelling of "Death", of "Death Egg Zone". But if you modify it, it is "hateD".
    • I made CPZ1 almost virtually unbeatable... literally. Because again loops weren't working at first, collision issues, and a few etc. But I guess you still can beat that zone.
    • Diagonally-aligned Springs in CPZ1 (I purposely added that) were have its sprites glitched.
    • Water were removed in the alternate version of the hack, but bubble still on place just for irony logical troll purpose... or maybe? SEGA?
    • In the alternate version of the hack, speed shoes can nullify Sonic's insane speed temporarily but he still can moonjump.
And again I guess that's all probably.

    DOWNLOAD
    NOTE:
Because I changed my mind and I felt that my recent hack now isn't fit to be played Razor & Zenon and let them play another Sonic ROM hack instead, so I getting rid of the download link for the hack for good. But you still can download the ROM on some Discord server because I put the ROM file on it. I also think that download link for my previous hacks is also gone, but I didn't bothered to edit the posts of my (deleted) previous hack.

    I'm sorry about that. :(

While on paper is a neat concept, the hack doesn't appeal to me and playing the hack, you seemed to have rushed it for people to react to the gimmick. And I was right after playing the first two zones of it, it's not that fun to play. It was interesting to see hacks like this pre-2010, but it's 2021, and many of us have high expectations on how we visualize and play hacks. Rather than repeating ideas from 10 or so years ago, try making a hack that features new level design, music, art, etc. Anything that screams Sonic 1 or 2 but a wholly unique experience should get people playing your work, but for now, this isn't worth playing or even worth Razor and Zenon's time to make a video. Other than that, there's one thing that irritates me:

Remember how I said a while ago to try and experiment with new tools? Once again, you ignored my advice. Then you uploaded another hack with the same tools, and I repeated the same thing. I've had enough of helping you get better now since you've constantly ditched what I said and took a month hiatus to make the same hack structure you're used to with the same tools. You're on your own to clean up the mess in the past. You're trapped in a looping roundabout rather than a straight motorway if you cannot take one's advice. Before you decide to take a month's break once again, think about what many of us have said in the past, wake up and try again.

You really aren't helping the community, or my own personal argument, that some of these classic tools can be used to make something interesting. You've taken an existing idea, and tried to recreate it in another game. It doesn't work all that well. And your solutions to some of the problems are questionable. Diagonal springs with broken artwork, a misunderstanding of how path swappers work, explanations for incorrect changes (like the spelling being wrong), etc.

The other issue is, this isn't that fun to play. It's just the original layouts but with some questionable changes to allow backtracking. I don't see any potential for this to improve, especial with the self imposed limits you have given yourself, and I question why you thought to release it.

I think a lot of people use old tools because they have always used these and think that changing is difficult or because there are few tutorials.
But ultimately it's not that hard if they try to experiment or ask for more detailed explanations!

Oh. I'll see. Although I remember I made a Sonic ROM hack with dissambelies like SonED2, but I'm still using old hacking tools like ESEII and Sonic Tweaker it because it have easier to edit level orders, music track used on the game, zone cards, importing other zones and its data from S1-S3K to S2 for ESEII, and boss HPs, Sonic and Tails' lives, speed and jumping height for Sonic Tweaker, and etc. but I know ESEII couldn't add or remove things on a zone, and other bad things such of couldn't edit S1 special stages.

And also, for D.A. Garden's words, I know using existing ideas isn't original, but since no one has made other S2 hacks that's smiliar to S1 - Return to the Origin before, so I made this hack (as a proof-of-concept). Also, I didn't know why loops didn't work until you explain that I misunderstanded how path swappers work. And I just though to release that hack for April Fools of next year but because my computer mouse just malfunctioned so I couldn't uses my computer indenfinitely, and I have to fix it temporarily and show my recent hack here yesterday.

I understand what did you mean. But while I'll still return to this forum just to check things and reply to you guys, I promise that I won't made any Sonic ROM hacks anymore is because you guys are right. A few months ago I repeatly made many Kaizo Sonic hacks and as well as sprite swap/recolor hacks and peoples has criticized me for being low-quality effort and others, but ROM hacking is just my temporal personal hobby only. Now I realize I was wrong. I'm not fittable for Sonic ROM hacking community because I'm still inexperienced on that (but still knows about how to made Sonic ROM hacks with dissambely, and I remember I also made Sonic ROM hacks on dissambely a few months ago) I accept all your criticism and words, and will be never forget.

(Oh, and again, my recent hack is just proof-of-concept only, so let's hope someone will remade this hack from scratch sooner or later and will be do BETTER than what I did)

(But I still hope that Razor & Zenon will play my last Sonic ROM hack)

There is not only SonED2, I use SonLVL.
If you need tools of various kinds you can go here (there are also recommended tools)::http://info.sonicretro.org/Sonic_Hacking_Utilities
To ask for detailed things like increase lives or order of levels you can go here (I asked a lot of things there to create my rom hack):
    https://sonicresearch.org/community/index.php?threads/basic-questions-and-answers-thread.1155/

However even if you have been criticized, it does not mean that you should stop making rom hacks, take it as a cue to improve more.

Listen, man, and I regret being a tad bit cringe and harsh there, and I'm sorry. =(

Unfortunately, you didn't listen to me when I and a few other peeps gave you solid advice. I'm not going to tell you to give up but rather try again. Try and have a go playing around with disassembly and start again. The issue with ESEII and Sonic Tweaker is incompatibility with Windows 10, limiting you to what it could provide. But nowadays, more people tend to learn asm code and SonLVL. If you're struggling to set it up, ask. :)

In the end, try and see how other people have made hacks and check out the amazing work people have made in the hacking contest this year and stir up a nice new hack for you to enjoy making and for us to enjoy playing~
