"Sonic the Hedgehog: Nick Arcade Edition"
A challenge hack where you have to collect 25 rings within 30 seconds of each zone. If you don't meet the 30-second requirement, you have to restart the level.
Some levels were removed from the level order as I thought they were nearly impossible to complete. The level select is still available if you want to try them out.

    Current bugs:
    • SBZ3 seems to remove a life from you when you start it.
    • Crashing can occasionally occur when clearing a level, though it's uncommon.

When you said SBZ3 does that mean you've restored the Labyrinth Zone art or does it still use Chemical Plant stuff

"Sonic the Hedgehog: Unfinished Example" This is my first Sonic Hack that is obviously a short hack. Only GHZ act 1 and 2 have been edited with newer pallete, and some basic moves added to Sonic. As the name suggests, it's an unfinished example of a Sonic 1 ROM Hack.
Following are the things that were added to this hack:
    • Spindash was added [the dust is missing]
    • Jumpdash code was added.
    • Removed Speedcap, Air Cap.
    • Few other minor bug fixes by me and Joshwoakes.
    • The boss is now harder and has 12 hits in usually of 8 hits
and few other minor bug fixes that are too much to list =P.
    Credits:
    • Jumpdash code by Selbi.
    • Spindash tutorial from Sonic Retro
    • Songs added from JX, Nineko's SMPS Pack, Gamma V's SMPS Pack, and others that I don't remember the names.
    • MegaPCM by vladikcomper
    • The DAC's by Joshwoakes
    • Joshwoakes for the help and suggestions.
    • MrVSC for the help and suggestions
    • LuigiXHero and few other people in the Free Assests Thread and Mini Tutorial Thread.
    • And SSRG Discord Server for the suggestions as well.
    Few Bugs We have found:
    • In Labyrinth Zone, Sonic does a full jump even when not holding the button long enough.
    • If Sonic gets stuck at a slope (particularly the curved top slopes), he can get stuck. Luckily you can get yourself out of that situation.
    • The "DSK PRESENTS" screen can get glitchy if you beat the level or the game and going towards the title screen again
Please Enjoy and have a good day.

In principle, it's very good for the first hack. Well done for pointing out the authors taken in your hack. But I advise you to work and work on it

I was having a discussion on Discord regarding SEGA Genesis emulators and the inability to reassign controllers to other players. Maybe the host does not want to be player 1, and that is completely understandable.

Which is why I created this hack to solve this issue in the most unbearable manner one could think of.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles but you'll swap inputs with player 2 on randomized time intervals is a hack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles that does exactly what the name suggests it does. It works during main gameplay, the Special Stages, and the Competition mode.

    How it works?

    - A random number is generated when you view the SEGA screen.
    - During gameplay, that number will go down by one unit every second.
    - Once the timer reaches zero, you'll swap inputs with player 2, and a new number is generated.
    - Repeat for as many times as you can bear.

It is highly recommended you play this with a second person.

Comes with an altered pausing feature! Either player can pause, and only the one that originally paused can unpause (of course, the timer is paused too)

Fun fact: originally, I wanted to restrict this to solely the main gameplay, and to Sonic & Tails only, but I decided against it.

It's official: I've gone insane once again. I put Bad Apple!! in Sonic CD, but instead of replacing an FMV, I put made it play in Palmtree Panic Act 1 present, just for the hell of it.

    GitHub repository w/ build instructions

Yeah, it lags, but that's kinda expected with the heavy load of copying an entire tilemap into VRAM often. Foreground also disappears because that's where Bad Apple!! gets rendered to.

Because I haven't had enough cock and ball torture... Bad Apple!! in Sonic 1, with the help of the 32X.

    Source
    Download

Note: it uses the Sega mapper, which the hardware manual says IS usable with the 32X enabled. The ONLY emulators AFAIK that supports that configuration are PicoDrive and MiSTer's 32X core. The version provided on RetroArch has it. BizHawk's version appears to be extremely out of date and doesn't. I tested this with a modified version of Ares, and I did submit a PR with preliminary support for the mapper, so hopefully that'll go through. I would not be surprised if this failed on hardware; I am a 32X noob lul.

Just completed this. I liked the idea of the hack and palette is fine too. However, there are some issues

    1. Background looks really boring right now. I think that keeping original GHZ's one would be better at this point
    2. Finding a ring cause Sonic to run automatically, which looks really weird, because most likely he will stuck on level or even die (I even accidentally did 256 lives glitch)
    1.png

    3. It's very easy to fall through levels, what causes loosing a lot of lives. Sometimes, it isn't intuitive, like on image below. I think you need to add more solids
    2.png

Overall, this hack has good potential and I am looking forward to its future updates

Relevant: Sonic: The One Ring exists.

I don't know how much your hack compares to that because I'm not at home right now and I can't look into it, but I just wanted to bring it to your attention in case you didn't know about it.

Overall, I had a really bad time with this hack.
The concept is, as mentioned by nineko above, eerily similar to the already existing Sonic: The One Ring, except far worse in execution.
Firstly, there are issues with how the level ends. Collecting the ring does not seem to play any sound effect, and whenever the level is ended, Sonic is not stopped properly. Even worse thing is that, rather than clearing the player's inputs, the game mantains the last inputs executed, which, combined with the fact that Sonic does not stop when beating a level, can cause glitches, as described by Mr_ESN above.
Secondly, the game fails to prevent Sonic from going past the intended level boundaries, making use of chunks that lack collision. This can result in the player dying by falling into a pit accidentally. Furthermore, GHZ3 can be beaten by defeating the boss normally, as Sonic's jump is high enough to cross the gap in the level design.

Speaking of the level design, this hack features many questionable choices. Cutoff chunks, faulty level collision, you name it.
GHZ2 introduces a set of custom chunks, which form a reversed tube. Said chunks do not make Sonic roll, and feature shading that is inconsistent with the rest of the level, which was clearly caused by the fact that the chunk was merely flipped.

With the many issues present, and the utter lack in polish featured in this hack, I can not recommend playing it.

You never specified this in your original post. You presented it as a hack still in development, possibly looking for feedback. Regardless, people are going to give their thoughts, positive or negative, since you put it out into the public. Being dismissive of criticism and making excuses like "this is unfinished and I barely playtested this" will get you nowhere. I'm not quite sure what you were expecting with the responses, to be honest.

lol imagine releasing a hack that you only play tested one act, hoping to get praised like you are Jesus himself coming for his second coming, then when nobody worships you, you backpaddle so hard into a brick wall.

Pro tip: Don't release a hack which you've only play tested one level. I've got second hand embarrassment from knowing this exist.
