I think I'm gonna cry, or lose sight, or both.

Also, a palette is nothing without art going with it, so it could work with some art.

    With this art it doesn't.

    DAMN.

Well, at least now it's not entirely white like it was before. I'll admit even I didn't like the all white palette. It made Winter Hill Zone look FAR too blank. If I was good with art, I'd whip up some art to go with the current palette. Sadly, I'm not very good with art, and as such, I can't really make new art.

You can copy/paste art from other games/levels (as long as it isn't from someone else's hack), nobody will mind.

The easiest way to edit level art is to create the mappings of some "blocks" in sonmaped, then render them (set the right palette with P, then "save to image > render sprite frame"), edit them in your favourite editor and re-import them. You can begin by copying art from other games, then completing and correcting it to fit your needs.

For example, try to import some art from ice cap to replace the grass with snow. Once you'll be comfortable with this, it'll be a matter of minutes (the longest part being to create the mappings in sonmaped, especially for curves).

note: while sprite tiles are left -> right then top -> bottom, the level art is usually top->bottom then left->right, that's why it's often difficult to create those mappings. You may have to use tiny pieces of 1x2 (width x height).

With this in mind, my temporary art ports are planned to be as follows:

Winter Hill - Ice Cap Zone art

Jackpot Way - MAYBE Carnival Night Zone art, not guaranteed

Death Egg - S3K Death Egg Zone art

I don't plan to do any collision edits for the S3K Death Egg Zone art, seeing as I want to just port the art stuff and collision from S3K. Not sure if that's possible, though.

ThomasSpeedrunner: learn how to take proper screenshots, please. I don't care if for whataver reason you like to play games with a wrong aspect ratio and a bad filter applied, but please don't post deformed screenshots here.

    Okay, nineko. Is this better?

This is the current state of Death Egg Zone. I've separated the zone into two acts to make it longer for no reason whatsoever (except it gives me a reason to use both the Death Egg Act 1 music and Death Egg Act 2 music from S3K, and it makes for an even better experience :D). Please don't hate on the palette. It's the converted palette from S3K, and I am WAY too lazy to correct it right now XD

Thanks. I'm sorry if I was a bit rude, but I just can't stand bad screenshots. And the palette, well, isn't much worse than some palettes I did years ago, like this one:

Graphics have never been my forte, fortunately I compensate with music ;)

O_O That palette is way, WAY too out of place (and far too colorful) to go with Angel Island Zone. Given a few tweaks, it could potentially fit Sonic 2's Casino Night Zone, but that's about it. However, you DEFINITELY compensate with music. I've seen some of your SMPS renditions, and I must say, they are amazing given the fact that some SMPS's can be difficult to make; for example, the Sonic 2 Game Gear boss theme, which is the one I needed help with in the Requests topic. Especially ones like the one I just mentioned, where the MIDI uses hard-as-hell-to-find instruments.

Hey everyone! I've decided to fix Death Egg Zone's palette. Here's the palette in its current form:

I know some stuff could still be worked on (for example, getting more black and grey palette :p), but at least the rings and HUD load the right colors now.

You could just easily port the palette from the S3K disassembly.... Along with the dynamic palettes.

    Are you sure, SuperEgg?

That's the result when simply copying and pasting the palette from the S3K disassembly.

With some tweaks, it could look awesome... or putrid.

Yes, but there's a specific palette the HUD and rings must use. Otherwise they don't necessarily display correctly.

    (sorry for double post)

Okay, guys. I'm currently working on Watered Relic Zone Act 2 while I'm waiting for an SMPS file from nineko that I requested a little while back. I'll (if I can) release a video showing all the progress I've made so far once I have that SMPS file and have done a bit more work on Watered Relic Act 2.

Maybe the HUD and Rings could have Zone-specific colors? I mean, there's already a flawed logic in the idea of rings just floating around, much less ones made of a valuable precious metals. Plus, who else has done such an idea? Before soon, the idea would start appearing in every single hack made after it.

I didn't necessarily want it to be that way, but I suppose I could arrange that if enough people want me to. Otherwise, it might be better if I simply stick with making my own palette instead of using the one directly from S3K. That palette ends up affecting the color of the rings and HUD, which I did not originally want.

    More pictures to show!

First up, Tails is here to tell you that there's a new Jackpot Way Zone palette in town! I tried to make this one look a lot less red and a bit more...casino-ish :| It was kind of fun to mess around with this palette, seeing which colors would go best where, which colors would look cool in a certain area, etc.

Aw, yeah...look at that big guy. You're looking at the latest DEZ palette (still no background though :p) and an upgraded version of the Death Egg Robot. This one was actually pretty cool to look at, as it uses a fairly equal amount of each color, and in what I think is a nice way. Did I mention the upgraded Death Egg Robot takes a whopping 20 hits? This can be a really, REALLY long fight if you're playing as Knuckles, since his weaker jump brings him horizontally level with the spiked protrusions on the Death Egg Robot's arms.

    That's all for now.
