Alright Thomas there are a lot of things too talk about. Most of them are negative so buckle your seat belt its going to be a bumpy ride, sorry to say. Ok so first things first your palettes are still very hard on the eyes you have shades of colors that dont match, bright unappealing colors, and I know you told me how Watered Relic it supposed to feel like its old, but you cant have that much gray in a zone it is very dull and boring. Next, yout music ports need some DAC fixes expecially ICZ music (ex. that high pitched ringing noise and the low pitched growling noises), I also noticed that some of the intruments sounds in certain parts of the music are missing in the sonic 3 DEZ music, fix that. On to the layout, it is pretty good except you have badniks that are in your running path so its real easy to hit them which can become very annoying to the player (yes in my EHZ layout there are fish that are in your way but im going to remove them), so remove any badniks that you feel would be easy to hit while running. If you cant play through it without getting a game over then how will anyone else. Next boss layouts, no no no no no, they are very dickish especially in ARZ, do not put any unavoidable death pits in your bosses or other objects, since the objects show up glitched. On to Knuckles glitchs, well glitch. When standing on objects Knuckles reacts as if he is about to fall off a cliff, dont understand how you have this issue since I am guessing you used Mainmemories guide on porting Knuckles, which tells you exactly how to fix the issue, (it is written for the HG disassembly after all)  I dont have this issue even when I had to change it so it would work with the Xenowhirl disassembly, (among other things thanks to Mainmemories help). I hope you have taken in all I have said  instead of just ignoring them because of the critizisums. With luck this will be contest ready if you work on fixing those bugs and palettes, and layout and get the reverse gravity gimmik working, (which btw Mike has told me that only the first step is correct). Anyway good luck you will need it.

Wow, Kega's codec doesn't want to cooperate with anything. No wonder everybody else uses Rerecording :U

Well, Joenick's post was not there when I was writing the above post, so yeah.

The thing where Knuckles acts like he's on a edge whenever he's on an object? Yeah, can't figure out how to fix that. Also, I know about the S3K music port problems, but I'm not very good with music :U

Now, the part I can use the most:

And by "other objects" you mean the end of the act, right?

Regardless, you may have not noticed the other change to ARZ's boss. I made the arrows come out faster. Yup, I actually edited a boss' behavior for once :U

And the fix for the objects showing up glitched is to just make a new art tile for them and load the object's art with that art tile when necessary.

I personally suggest downloading and installing the Xvid codec, then just use Gens Recording to record your video using that codec. It's very simple and will upload to youtube without any problems.

Well, guess who finally decided to actually upload a video to Youtube today?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yoo1DLQp868

This video should explain one of the many things I've been up to recently.

EDIT: And before you even ask, the username is one I picked a long time ago, so just ignore it and enjoy the fucking video :U

Um, what was that all about? A very bad ported level, music off course, badniks ugly, fucked up button, impossible to die, and a title screen where your copyright is on two lines?

Seriously, I just... don't understand anymore...

nineko: Yes, I actually decided to try to use Gens Rerecording and lo and behold, it worked.

redhotsonic: All due respect, RHS, but you don't seem to understand.

     - Level is being custom-made, not ported, so I don't see where you got that nugget of info from, seeing as I'm the one making the hack in the first place and it's news to me. Not to mention that the level is not even done yet.

     - Music is not yet perfect, but at the moment I can't be arsed to fix it because, like the reverse gravity gimmick, it's not at the top of my large-ass to-do list.

     - Spinys and buttons = art tiles are not yet sorted out. Will have those fixed soon.

     - The "impossible to die" part is going to be fixed later.

     - And the copyright text, well, we already went over that before, didn't we? IIRC, I showed that WIP title screen to you all about a week ago :U

All in all, DEZ is very, VERY work-in-progress. So please, don't hate on it. At least enjoy the fact that I am now able to upload stuff to Youtube.

I wouldn't exactly call it fixed, fixed would mean the music sounds like it should, the badnik art loads, you have a BG, and your antigravity works when pressing the button and most of all you should be able to get to the end this is more like a work in progress DEZ not a fixed one.

The background screws up when I do implement it, so for the time being it is not there so as to prevent it from doing that.

I guess it isn't exactly "fixed" yet, but at least the palette doesn't fuck up your eyes anymore :U

Anyway, new video in half an hour. Stay tuned to see some of my ARZ boss fails :)

TSR, with all due respect, when I say "ported DEZ", I mean your getting the tiles from S3K's DEZ. I dont mean copying it bit by bit.

Yes, I bloody well know we talked about your copyright not being on one line a week ago, I thought you would of fixed it by now. It's been a week and it takes about... 30 seconds maximum to fix it to 1 line?

Congratulations, you can now upload to YouTube, but why that video? It's very incomplete like you said. Another level would of been better.

That's why I'm currently uploading a video on Watered Relic Zone Act 2, complete with boss (and epic fails :p). After that, I'll probably wait a little bit to see what people think, because I don't want to give everything at one time :|

EDIT: Oh, and I didn't know how to fix the whole two-lines problem, but at the same time, I didn't want to ask right away :U

I've been keeping quiet for awhile but now I have something to say. Because its late and I'm tired, for now I will only say this: So little progress, no ones going to really care. Sorry but its true.

Thomas I suggest you change your palette for ARZ before you post the video unless you want to hear the same criticisms that you seem to not take in and do something about the boss too or just ignore me like usual. Sorry but it's true you never take in anything I say (This may be the last time I ever give you advice).

If I could find a fitting palette for Watered Relic Zone, trust me, I'd have implemented it long before the video was made. But:

     - Green leaves + grey color=fail

     - Grey leaves + grey color=fail

     - Grey leaves + green color=fail

I can't think. I want to change the palette, I really do, but I just can't find a fitting palette for the theme of the level, which is a bunch of ruins that have been sitting there for thousands of years :

Plus, I already recorded AND uploaded the video, so I would have to record and upload it once more. That would delay me by about half an hour plus five minutes for the palette, and that's just assuming everything still goes according to plan :U

I could honestly say that I feel these "Criticisms" will be impossible to decipher unfortunately, We already know that nothing will even be considered to be taken into consideration... I have stopped following this because of that fact. All that can be said about it is that Thomas has indisputably bitten off WAY more than he could possibly chew. If you do not, Thomas, heed this advice; you will not get anywhere with your hack if you continue working in a manner that makes you seem illogical and inexperienced. Which just so happens to be what is happening now. You have a lot of work to get behind if this is going to work out in the end.

I know I'm no administrator or Pro member, nor am I the kind of person to talk out of line like this. My hacks are not EVEN close to being in the same league as some of our top members, But I still work on my own for the most part until I'm entirely stumped. I don't ask for help as much as I used to, even though I may need it. In reality, you rely on everything. Take matters into your own hand and teach yourself if you can. Making up excuses is only burying you deeper in the void. Learn from this fact, we are only helping you out for the better, not helping you make your hack the entire time.

EDIT: There is such a thing as screenshots. You don't have to make a video for every update y'know.

    (sorry for double post)

Alright, guys, which palette do you think is better?

    Palette A:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yMSMBpUdOA

    Palette B:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ru7rLHIVwKI

Which one is better suited for the theme of the level?

There *are* some things for which a video is more appropriate than a screenshot, though. Examples of such things include: new layouts, new moves, new game modes, ...

That said, I agree. Most other things can be as well portrayed with screenshots (or vgm files, for songs).

Also, a small advice. Even though I, too, can't keep my mouth closed while I'm working on something, releasing too many updates usually leads to the opposite effect than the desiderable one, as people will tend to stop being interested. Keep some secrets, some hacks are in development for years without a single screenshot being released, this will increase curiosity towards the final product. When I released my hack there were very little surprises I didn't show while I was working on them, and I can really see why you do what you do, because I do that too. Also note how I release most of my tools a few days too soon than I should, without a real beta testing, because I'm just so excited with what I did and I want to share it with everyone, but in the end this always causes me to make a second, good release within a week or so.

But you shouldn't do what I do. Don't post screenshots for a while so you can post a bigger update afterwards. Surprise everyone with something unexpected. And no, I wouldn't define a video of semi-broken DEZ with a semi-broken palette and an unfinished layout as something big and/or interesting. Properly finish the port, fix the palette, give it a more substantial layout, do something good, as I said, surprise everyone. Show it in action with the reverse gravity feature in place. Add water, make Tails fly, dunno. Just don't make another video of Sonic going back and forth on the same few tiles with that palette and the numbered tiles. Don't give up.

edit: you posted those videos while I was writing my post. No, palettes aren't one of the things which deserve a video (in my opinion). Dynamic palettes, maybe. But static palettes, no.
