Sonic Hacking Contest 2015

When the rules say we must do our own screenshots AND video, does that mean a video is compulsory, or will screenshots suffice? 

 

Screenshots will suffice, but a video is always better.

 

May I have some proper definition on what "a playable build" is? I may submit a thing, but it'd be far from what I'd call done, so I'm playing with the thought of maybe waiting until next year.

 

Can all the stages be completed (with all characters, if applicable)? If not, you may need to alter the level order so that only the levels which can be completed are playable (a demo build, in other words). That is exactly what I did last year.

Then again, I'm not an official, so what do I know?

 

​Something you can actually play the game with. If you submit a ROM that redirects to the SEGA screen after pressing start on the title screen (like someone did a few years ago which did not please anyone), it's not getting accepted.

If you feel it is not good yet for a public release then at least let the judges play it as a partial private entry.

 

Just wondering here...

How plausible would it be to get a month's extention time instead?  I know it may sound rather cheeky of me, and by all means shoot me down, but I think many might benefit from it, including Marc in relation to the site's progress, and myself who's working on something small (but never the less a submission).

Any thoughts?

 

I agree with Markey, could certainly help to finish my hack and maybe even extend it to what I have in mind for release at the moment!

 

I've had my hack ready for the past month and have been anxiously awaiting the contest ever since.

 

I'm in the same boat as MM.

EDIT: Saying that, I'm on holiday this week so when I heard the contest got pushed back one week, this was perfect for me. I don't mind if it gets pushed back further if it helps more than 50% of members, but otherwise, I'm happy to stick with the 9th.

Unless he's preparing Pana 2, then I'm all up for waiting! ^_^

Like other agree, it's good to have the delay. My hack from last year, was horrible. This will now all change, when I made the next version, of... (you can guess already.)

 

I wouldn't say no to a further extension but if you can't I understand.

 

I'd approve of a further extension. I was planning on reimplementing the default special stages in my hack to make it feel more complete, but with some more time, I might be able to make them more interesting. I completely understand if this seems unreasonable, but at least it ensures that the site will be ready by the time the due date arrives.

 

I'm fond of the idea of an extension. I'm not making anything for this contest as none of my work could stand up to these people. The reason I think an extension would be a good idea is because it will allow the creators to finish up their hacks so they can be properly judged. I mean, who could judge half a zone?

Even if you've already completed your hack you can still have a while to touch it up and bug test it.

 

Due to being informed that the completion of the website will not be done in time for the deadline, the contest has been extended once again.

Submissions in by Sunday 6th September.
Updates in by Sunday 13th September.
Contest Week from Monday 21st to Sunday 27th September.

 

YESSS! Now I have more time to procrastinate, thanks to dear Marc being busy with job. Too bad for poor Marc tho, gotta deal with the site for longer tho, but hey hopefully this means less stress for him to keep in time?!

Either way I am glad I have more time to add things to my hacks and hope everyone can get extra polish on their hacks, afterall you have no excuse now! (unless you are lazy :V)

No new level layout, simple challenge hack? My Richter hack ain't ready yet, but I have a hack which has 2 sonics, if the second dies, you do too.

With the extra month and little time away from my computer, I could make my hack three times as good with three times as much content.

 

Hm, that sounds great! I'll have time to finish the planned layouts and even start making the new Special Stages. I hope that I won't be lazy this month. The only bad thing about new time is that I won't be able to fully participate in the Contest Week
