If I may add anything, I consider it to be a bad sign for a hack if the creator takes a hit or dies during their video of the level. It either makes the levels look badly designed or it makes the creator seem like an incompetent player.

Also, having the jumping sound effect go from CD to normal is jarring, personally. But that one doesn't affect anything.

This... isn't great, if I'm honest. I can't really give constructive feedback when I really don't like much about the hack at all.

Yeah I should of rerecorded it but I was in a hurry then. I will redo that video soon. Also the LZ one was just me showing off the drowning sound.

As for the sound effect, I plan on having an options menu that lets you set what sound you would like to hear for both jumps.

It been last contest since you guys/gals seen anything of SNI (and looking at my thread I didn't even release it here technically)
So first I guess i'll link to the contest page since that is the current release.

And now for a new screenshot:

Ported art from S2 with new palette.

INB4 someone says: "Why not just hack Sonic 2 instead?"

It's because I prefer Sonic 1, that's all. I like how simple it is, though I really like the level design and art from S2 also, so I ported a couple levels from it.

Anyways the Zone is called Starlight Oasis, I plan on editing the BG soonish to make it at night.

    Edit: Updated first post

So yeah C&C is welcome as usual.

I like palette, but I think there's too much blue, soft purple and unchanged green, you should try more variety with colors.

That green is changed, it's more turquoise now. I think the palette is fine.

I really like the palette. It's refreshing to see a set of soft, pastel like colors that mesh well, as opposed to the more usual vibrant (and occasionally clashing) palettes. My only concern is the level name; not only is there no stars to see, but the bright blue behind the mountains suggests that it's either broad daylight, or early evening, neither of which you'd expect to see stars during.

I put Aquatic Ruin Zonein my hack a while ago because no other hacks did it but I haven't had much of a chance to do anything with it yet. I guess someone else doing the same thing was inevitable.

Anyways, it looks like that green in the second palette line needs to be change to gray like in Sonic 2. Other than that, the dark and less saturated colors look pretty nice.

As for the hack itself, I haven't really gotten to play it until now. The double jump doesn't seem to have any purpose and it makes the levels way too easy. There is also a bottomless pit with platforms over it in act 3 of the first zone that's really easy to fall into. Something needs to slow the player down before it. I don't think falling platforms over a bottomless pit should be used for the boss because the falling platforms are almost useless and the pit is easy to fall into. However, once you stay on a ledge, the boss becomes really easy because of the double jump. I really like the art in the second zone but it isn't very memorable because the zone is one act and the act is short and easy to get through because of the double jump. Lastly, I noticed that the credits seem to be the same as the ones in Sonic 2: Return of Shadow.

In conclusion, this hack doesn't stand out much but it does hold a lot of promise. I'm excited to see what comes of it in the future.

Thats because they are Natsumi's custom credits he gave to others to use for the 2015 hacking contest.

Well it looks wonderful so far, at least to me. It's an ideal set of colours for this particular zone, and if I hear tell is true and it's getting a new BG, then well awesome~
