I see it still isn't possible to see where one block ends and another starts when modding chunks =P Still, this is looking pretty fucking awesome.
I've been waiting for the silly pull down menu to be improved on! This is gonna making level and art editing way more fun :3
By request of Sonic Hachelle-Bee on Retro, I have added keyboard shortcuts which are available after clicking on the chunk or block previews: Chunk: Up/Down/Left/Right: Change selected chunk block X: Flip horizontally Y: Flip vertically S: Increment solidity T: Increment secondary solidity (S2/S3K chunks only) B: Increment block index Block: Up/Down/Left/Right: Change selected block tile X: Flip horizontally Y: Flip vertically P: Toggle priority C: Increment palette T: Increment tile index
Your impressing me more and more with these Sonlvl updates, maybe some day you will make it so great, that people won't have to use SonEd2 for art editing, just keep it up.
I don't know, it just seems easier to edit level art with SonED2 is all, but I can't explain why, didn't mean to say yours couldn't, my bad. Edit: Not by a computer, so I can't check out why it's easier.
Just updated SonLVL, and now get an unknown exception error whenever SonLVL is run. App still works when you click the 'Continue' button, though. SonLVL.log.txt
That's a strange error, all I can tell is it's failing to load the HUD images. I've just put up another update that adds number boxes to the left of the palette in the Tiles tab, so you don't have to use the Windows color dialog.
New keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl+1: Switch to Objects tab Ctrl+2: Switch to Foreground tab Ctrl+3: Switch to Background tab Ctrl+4: Switch to Chunks tab Ctrl+5: Switch to Blocks tab Ctrl+6: Switch to Tiles tab Ctrl+7: Switch to Solids tab
Do you think you could make the tile editor feel a bit more user friendly? It would be nice to have some MS paint style options, like the paint bucket tool. Also, Could you make it so that you can edit multiple tiles at once? It's hard to make good art when your forced to zoom in to disconnected tiles.
There are options to draw art for an entire new chunk or block in the context menus of the respective lists, but the flood fill is beyond my ability.
How do you get the context menu to appear? The help file says to right click, but that's only for objects. I don't want to paint tiles and blocks onto the chunks, I want to create new art in an MS paint style fasion.
On the right hand side of the Chunks and Blocks tabs are a list of the respective items, right click in that list.
OK, I've found out what's causing this error. Turns out SonLVL doesn't like me optimizing the pngs in the HUD folder. Program loads up without issue using the default pngs.
Ah, yes, that would do it. You might be able to get away with it if you could keep them 8bpp, with the same palette indices. Or I could reduce them to 4bpp myself with some tweaks to the loading process.
Is there a way to have the snap-to-grid feature for objects work like it is in SonED2? That being that you can have them be anything on a 2ⁿ x 2ⁿ basis and applies directly as you move the object, rather than the "hold Shift and let go of your left mouse button" that it is now, which also only works on an 8 x 8 basis. And yes, I googled the ⁿ character. :V
There's an annoying issue that has really been bugging me with the level converter. When I port S3K levels to S2, the palette that each block is set to is offset, forcing me to fix them all manually before I can get any further.
SonLVL's object layout editor now has an adjustable grid: You can select a size from the menu, or use J to increase the size and M to decrease the size.
When I delete unused BG chunks and the tiles/blocks associated with it (not tiles associated with other chunks to make sure), it seem to mess up the layout for the remaining level and other acts of that zone (specifically the loops don't work in S1 even if I place another one and double click). Any idea why that is? I'm currently attempting to delete the tiles/blocks/chunks on all 3 acts at the same time before I save to see if the results are different. Also, is there a hotkey to delete tiles/blocks/chunks so it can be faster than right-click->delete or a way to highlight multiple tiles to delete at the same time? If not, can that be an implemented feature for the future?
