Sonic 1: NEW STUFZ is my hack of Sonic 1. Currently, it features:

    - Multiple characters (Sonic and Metal Sonic, choosable at title screen)

    - Completely new zones (read: 1 at the moment)

    - Spindash, InstaShield

    - Custom logo

Not many of these ASM features are that original anymore, but at least I did all this myself (except for the nonmoving background in Marble Zone, StephenUK helped me with that).

    Screenshots:

Title screen. Not that much is changed, as you can see.

Sonic losing all his rings in the new Desert Zone.

Metal Sonic in the Desert Zone.

Egg Fortress Zone, currently in the works.

    Video:

Act 1 of the Desert Zone

    Desert Zone 2

Several features that are in the Desert Zone 2 video were implemented after Desert Zone 1, namely the different palettes for Sonic and Metal Sonic.

    Releases:

First Release, Only Has MZ1/Desert Zone 1

    Questions and comments are welcome.

All I can say is please finish this hack. It's such a simple idea to implement Metal Sonic into the game yet every hack that's supposed to have Metal Sonic in it usually dies. Plus the desert level looks really fun (Although I normally despise Sand levels, but this one looks different).

I think that the sand level is what Sandopolis should have been. It's better than Sandopolis.

    Copypasted from S2B:

    Version 0.2

I've decided to release Version 0.2 of Sonic 1: NEW STUFZ. This features:

    - A full 3-act Desert Zone

    - Multiple characters

    - Different music and palettes for Sonic and Metal Sonic

    - New title screen music =P

    Questions and comments are welcome.

Also, just because I've been doing this with every other act,

Just some thoughts, The Metal Sonic sprite is very generic you might be better off porting the sonic 3/S&K Metal and just drawing a few extra frames for the sprite. The art for the foreground is quite well done. I enjoyed it a lot. The background needs a bit of work perhaps you could copy the labyrinth zones effect from the Japanese version of the cart and give it a nice heat effect.

Sonic 65, have you done some ASM in your hack? The reason is that you carry the shield into the next act like in the 8 bit version of Sonic 1. Plus there is a very basic spin-dash added.

Some of the sound effects/jingles (such as the 1up jingle) doesn't sound right.

    Other than that, its great.

Edit: Plus most of the acts are mixed up

Oh one more thing. It may just be me, but if I was looking for a game or hack of any kind. I would ignore one with a name like "New Stufz". You might want to think about changing that name to something else.

Ok, just to let you know, sonic 1/CD art style is simple and don't have much details. And that desert zone is bit realistic. make it more simple, and it'll fell more sonic, thought. The floor can stay the same, i think.

    Just a suggestion.

insulfrog, he did use ASM to implement the spindash.

Also, this is a good shortcut

Jump up & go to the right, continue to run & you'll reach the endpost in about 25 seconds, getting 50000 points!

Yes, I used ASM to add the spindash and make the shields carry over. Also, there's an insta-shield which I added using ASM, and I made different level palettes and music for Sonic and Metal Sonic with ASM.

The level order is a result of me fucking around with it =P

I've had this name for a really long time, just don't feel like changing it =P

Try looking at SYZ and SBZ from S1, or basically any level from SCD, and you'll see how wrong you are there. I have very little detail compared to these levels =P

I know about that shortcut, I still have yet to fix it =P

This looks promising, it's good to see custom levels. I know they're hard to make, I never finished any of them because I wasn't sure which tiles should replace which. I do have many level ideas on paper and in art form on my computer, but I never really implemented them into the game.

Glad to see progress to this hack. I remember first seeing the sunset gradients and wanting to steal it for my game when it first came out. ;)

I'm too lazy to took the screenshots by myself, so:

You see? they used simple tiles like triangles, waves and balls(Tidal tempest).

Also, SYZ uses simple tiles too. they're small 16x16 tiles.

And SBZ is like MMZ, the simple tiles are just one color.

Don't say to me i'm wrong at stuff i know well about s1/CD

Okay, I decided to do some more work on this today after a little break from hacking.

Typical GHZ remake zone. BG is still in the works, so no BG yet.

Also, new title screen music. Sonic Remix is probably going to pwn me on this but =P

Egg Fortress Zone Act 1 Video

It's on Google Video because Youtube was being gay and saying the video failed each of the 5 attempts I tried to upload it. Sorry about the crappy quality.

The art still needs a little more work (more foreground detail). The bricks are actually more detailed than shown in the video, they were just a little distorted by quality =P

Congrats on sorting out that menu but is that really an up down menu or press C for Metal Sonic & it points to Metal Sonic?

Your Egg Fortress background needs more done to it, it just looks boring right now. Also, what is going to happen to Scrap Brain 3, since that is Labyrinth Zone, I'm sure you'll sort that out. Good work on the EFZ music though, that sound driver is good with that song.
